Are you a nurse with "alternative" spiritual beliefs?
My opinions are based on my observation about how we know the universe works (what we know up until now). Religious text have valid teachings about human behaviors and arguably morality (good and bad) but no matter how much anyone tries, much of is not consistent with reality as we know. A god that is supposed to be perfect cannot by definition have written that piece of work. Am I wrong? Well that's irrelevant as it is an opinion and belief on my part.

Are you a nurse with "alternative" spiritual beliefs?
[quote=Lev Are you saying there's other eyes aside from man on these matters? If so, what's your evidence?A plausible explanation about people thousands of years ago is that they invented a god/gods to fill gaps in knowledge. I hypothesize that in 2000 years we may see Jehovah the same way we see Zeus and Thor today. Sadly we may have another God, perhaps a character of our current fiction such as Superman or Iron Man. There's no way for us to know the intent by those who wrote the bible but we can confidently say it is fiction if we apply the laws of physics and basic science

Are you a nurse with "alternative" spiritual beliefs?
The problem I have is that you can assign arbitrary meaning to any text bible or scientific that's why I tend to favor science and the scientific process. Also, just because billions believe something to be true, it doesn't make it so. I'm open minded but when people cherry pick and assign meaning where there's none I get skeptical. I will remain respectful here as I'm truly looking to engage in conversation rather than insult anyone

Yes you could say that and I respect your opinion. What's more plausible though? Talking snakes and miracles or natural processes and scientific explanations? :)

Are you a nurse with "alternative" spiritual beliefs?
Like the first comment after the article stated: "The clinical diagnosis of schizophrenia and various other psychoses involves a number of salient factors and symptoms that if demonstrated to hold indicate psychopathology. These include delusions of reference (being referred to by or referring to people or conscious beings that do not exist), auditory and visual hallucinations (including the belief in witnessing miracles and heaing the voices of a god or gods in some way), and general paranoia: including being concerned about being watched or believing one is being watched often. Especially if a person believes they are always being watched." I do see valid points on the rest.

Thanks for sharing the link, It actually made some good points, except for number 1. I specifically like the 1st comment after the article.

nursing eating young
Nurses in general do not eat their young, SOME nurses do, but that is more an individual personality trait vs a nursing trait.

Are you a nurse with "alternative" spiritual beliefs?
I believe god is a man made concept created out of a human necessity to fill gaps in knowledge. My comments are not meant to insult anyone, they are merely the irrelevant opinion of someone on the Internet so take it for what is worth.

Failed out of BSN Program, What Now?
But Esme what the OP described was a clear personal attack. I'm disappointed you don't acknowledge that.
-
My coworker is stealing
I understand but what the OP described is far from obvious "abuse". Clearly you know the difference between diverting meds for example and someone a little disorganized (at best) causing that person to stay over time. The OP didn't even know that any wrong doing was even happening. All I'm saying is that we do not have enough evidence to advice anyone to disrupt someone's life over her perceived abuse.
-
Failed out of BSN Program, What Now?
Yet another insult to the OP by the same people who cry foul every time a different opinion is offered. The OP never said her son asked her to post anything. The OP is a mom that is concerned about her son and his academic future. How easy it is for many here to criticize. Seems like the same elitist few, wouldn't be surprised if the reason they flame the OP is because it makes them feel better about themselves.

Failed out of BSN Program, What Now?
Funny to see these "crusty old bats" give their nasty hearted opinions and ill advice while at the same time crying foul when other give theirs and they don't agree.

Mantra?... Whats yours??...
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day; teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime; give a man religion and he will die praying for a fish. - Unknown

Failed out of BSN Program, What Now?
Way to kick someone when they are down. OP, the simple answer is, tell your son to try again, go for LPN then bridge to RN. Pay no attention to the elitist comments here.

why do nurses hate medics?
You are proving one point, you do not listen. You'd be that nurse dismissing the medic and their report. You can dream on thinking a nurse out of school can be equal to the same new medic in their (Medic's) field. We all have our strengths and weakness.
-
why do nurses hate medics?
We agree on this: "But, if I am having a medical crisis which isn't blatantly obvious, my money is on the nurse who had a broader understanding of many different medical situations rather than just focusing on a "code". They may recognize an emergency before it develops into a code before a Paramedic. This is why I support PHRN legislation to become a standard in the US." Which is my point, we all have our strengths, so simple that I can't understand why you're so confused

why do nurses hate medics?
So sad you spent all that time putting this post together and managed to miss the entire point. By wasting your time in pursue of irrelevant blabber. You missed the point you left me to die at the mall (sort of speak) because you did not get the simple fact that a new nurse is not as good as a new medic IN THAT SETTING. LMAO!!!!

why do nurses hate medics?
I agree 100% and would add that we all RN and EMT, etc. can sometimes be what you said. As far as being rude, I didn't think you were.

why do nurses hate medics?
Error/misleading comments: 1. PHRNs are not "just RNs", they are RNs with additional training on pre-hospital care, so your comparison to Paramedics for RNs is misleading. 2. "The Sad thing is that some do not have the opportunity to practice this skill [intubation]" - This is just plain wrong, Paramedics are required yearly competency reviews by their medical directors, even if they do not intubate in the field, they are required to perform the skill in the OR and / or mannequins. As far as my "brain dead" comment, I much rather have an EMT/Paramedic run my code at the mall than a nurse which may not even be familiar with ACLS (potentially). I am not saying nurses are bad but I would not want to take my chances with an RN unfamiliar with how to run a code effectively. Let's face it, we all (Paramedic and RN) have our specialty areas and trust me, an RN just out of school will not and cannot run a code on their own.
-
why do nurses hate medics?
I don't even know where to begin with the errors here. I think I'll just say this, Paramedics practice skills that are different because of their focus (prehospital). Can nurses do what paramedics do? Yes, can nurses do what doctors do? Yes, that doesn't mean they're trained to do it safely. If I'm sick and require long term care, I prefer a nurse, if I'm at the mall and go into cardiac arrest then give me a medic or EMT, keep the nurse away as chances are I'll end up brain dead in that setting

How do I explain to my snobby family why nurses are important and worthy of respect?
Tell them nurses are important too. Of course as a future nurse you won't be able to pay for their nice retirement at a nice nursing home but you will be able to have them move in with you at home and provide their Medical care lol

Are you sure you're not rationalizing your need to butt in her business? Let it go, if she's doing something wrong then she will have to answer at some point. For your own sanity, focus on your work.
