Should I apply now or wait?

Thanks for replying. I am just nervous I will not be able to "beat out the competition" per say. I mean now and the next few months, lol. I am finishing up the application right now. Will apply to more schools in the spring, one of which includes my dream school. We will see...

Should I apply now or wait?

I am planning to apply for Texas Wesleyan this year but don't know if I should wait to improve my stats. I lacked focus during first few years of college. Stats: Overall GPA: 3.4 BSN GPA: 3.38 Science GPA: a little bit above 3.0 (chem 1, physics 1, pathophysiology, biology, a&p and precalc: B. Business calculus and statistics: A) First pharm class, I got a c+. Retook that for b. I've withdrawn from a lot of classes prior to nursing school: precalculus (retook and got B), chem II, micro econ honors, a lot of psychology classes, a ballet class. I also changed majors several time and took random classes that seemed interesting at the time but, in hind sight, makes me appear unfocused as a student (ex: epidemics in world history, yoga, fitness and health, jiu jitsu, greek mythology, a lot of psychology classes, extra sociology classes...). I also have several C's: pediatric nursing (my C was an 82), macro econ honors, men and masculinities (upper sociology course) and first pharmacology class. GRE: 303 (math 148, verbal 155) with 4.5 writing Experience: Cardiothoracic ICU (will have 1 year before Feb.1, 2015, which is what they require) Others: I have no school debt or obligation (scholarship covered 85-91% of tuition and fees each semester and I also had two nurse tech jobs to pay off the rest. No kids and not married). Can move anywhere. I have my bls, acls and pals. I am studying for ccrn right now. Should have it in January. My question. Should I wait to apply and focus on improving my messy transcript for apply now? I meet all of the minimum requirement but, looking at my transcript, I do not appear to be very competitive due to all the w/d classes and all the random classes I took. I am a lot more focused and less random now, partly due to nursing school and being a nurse. Should I wait?

    Girl Brain Dead after Tonsillectomy

Oh goshhh, it's not over yet? I was obsessed with following and finding out news about this case, now, I am just sick of the length of this ordeal. Hope she'll be buried soon, if not already. To answer theothermother411, in my opinion, even if her body attempts it, d/t the current state, the body will not be able to properly secrete waste from fat or muscle breakdown. The waste buildup will further kill the kidneys, build up in the blood, she'll be really acidotic, perfusion will further decrease...pretty much, once you are dead, your body will keep getting worse and worse.

I also think that the family contributed to her demise; however, I've read that UP3's are very painful, to the point where patients will often lose large amount of weight after procedure d/t pain intensity and the length of pain and recovery (which I took to mean that pts eat less d/t pain). Are we assuming that she was medicated enough not to feel any pain when eating? I know that mom stated that she was laughing and talking also, so I guess it is possible. I just have a hard time fathom eating after such a major surgery involving mouth, throat and nose.

I also wonder where the body is right now. I've had an opportunity to care for a deceased pt d/t brain-death and she was an organ donor. Also, no! You do not pull the plug on organ donors (until after surgery). So many people think that the hospital wanted to pull because they wanted Jahi’s organs. Vent stays on. Organ donors receive VERY GOOD CARE, and that is an understatement. In my experience: 1-2 RNs/pt (hospital RN and RN sent from donation center), RT to manage vent, vitals q5mins, art line, triple lumen central line, hemodynamic monitoring (regular icu monitor a long with vigileo), NS running constantly, gtts titrate to keep MAP >65 or 75 (of course, vasopressin was given d/t diabetes insipidus), bear hugger... Anyway, my point is, it is very difficult and taxing to keep a cadaver "in good shape", even in the ICU with top of the line care. Outside of the ICU, her body is not doing great right now, and that is also a huge understatement. Also, please do not inject race into this.

Ummm...it's unethical and, I would say, fraudulent in that this family is leading people to believe that Jahi's cadaver is doing well to increase donations from those that don't know any better. Also, just because Jahi is no longer alive, doesn't mean that the family can do as they please to her body. It has to do with ethics as well as the law. As a health care professional, you step in when the interest of the patient or the late patient, is being overlooked, doesn't matter the reason (ignorant, greed, selfishness, psych issues...).

They are just outnumbered and cussed at by others. It's ironic so see all these faithful people praising god and cursing someone to go to...that hot place with the guy with horns and a tail...in the same sentence

One of the news article I read actually says that she was taken home. I can't remember which one it was or how accurate, but, I also read that she was taken from hospital via ambulance. Also, the wonderful uncle, Omarie, filmed the ambulance ride and announced her arrival at the "secret location" not too long after her body was taken from Oakland. Maybe she was airlifted afterward, Idk. Also, though I am disgusted and have my doubt, I would not be 100% surprised if they did find a facility and a healthcare team. I read some of the court documents filed by Dolan and was surprised at some of the credentials willing to back this debacle. So messy, sad and strange. I can't look away!!!!

I looked at the Facebook page and read some of the comments out of curiosity and was left speechless. There's so such magical thinking, it's ridiculous. I'm an atheist and I feel embarrassed for God; being tied to so much ignorance. There's praying for a resurrection x_X. One person thinks that Jahi will bring "Testimonial report on how Jesus works." You can't make that stuff up. Gobsmacked...

I have a question. If a person is already dead (even though relatives might think otherwise), does it still require a surgeon to perform peg and trach? I am speaking from a legal standpoint. If it wasn't an MD/DO that performed the procedure, what could happen, legally?

I see it: Not interested in getting my followers up, just worried about getting them Dollars UP! INSTAGRAM:::IAMOMARI What a disgusting human being. Get a real job. I also agree with a previous post. The hospital should go to court instead of settle. This family has been slandering this hospital for too long, the hospital needs to straighten everything out. Someone needs to put an end to this madness and teach the future cray-cray families that they cannot go this road again.

It's getting more disturbing. The lawyer wants families to be the ones determining point of death Jahi McMath's lawyer thinks families, not doctors, should determine death - latimes.com

    Revised GRE

I know the minimum required GRE for most programs, but I was wondering what a competitive GRE would be. I just took my GRE today and am disappointed. I got 148 quant (some programs require >150) and 155 verbal. I am disappointed with the quant since I was getting between 153-155 with practice exams. I guess I don't want to retake it right now, so I am wondering if I should keep it or try again. If I do retake the GRE, I'll probably do it during the summer. regardless. I will take a break and focus on my new job for now. Nevertheless, should I retake GRE or try to hold on to it for about 1-2 years? Those who scored over 310 total, how long did you practice and what did you use? I used free practice texts from princeton review website and manhattan prep. I scanned Kaplan a little bit.
