Croc's
Croc's is really popular with our anesthesia residents. I think they're kinda cool but I can't afford a pair. So I just bought 2 cute pairs (silver and purple with gems) that looks exactly like it in a popular department store here in Manila. They're really cool and very soft. :)

Staying Overnight In Pacu With Icu Pt
I just had my 24 hour duty Thursday last week. I was the 2pm-10pm nurse and our SICU then was a full house. There was no one to relieve me, I have to cater to 2 SICU patients and 2 PACU patients alone w/ a pull out, I have no choice but to extend my shift until 6am the next day. But guess what? I am also the 8am-4pm nurse the next day. Can you imagine how tired I am the following day? The thing is, this is not the first time and we're only 3 nurses in the PACU. According to our admins our area doesn't require additional staffs (which is bull BTW) coz we've got all the help we got. Well, goodluck to us all.

PACU RN's- what is your visitor policy?
1. Does your PACU allow visitors? No. I'm very strict in implementing this unit policy. Relatives are sometimes pain the ass. (kidding) 2. If so, under what circumstances? i.e. peds cases only, special needs, ect. Pediatric and psych patients are exemptions to the rule. But only one relative is allowed inside and they should be at the beside of the patient at all times. 3. Is the visit just for a quick minute or is it unlimited to stand in there and see everything? If we need to talk to the relatives we let them get near their patient but for seconds only. 4. How many people can be in there per patient at a time? One. 5. How do you handle privacy issues, giving report when a visitor is in the room, etc. or when patients go bad or code in front of visitors, etc. It's difficult considering that the patients are near to the nurses station. We just try to lower our voices.

Transport to PACU
In our set-up, the anesthesia resident accompanies the patient to the PACU together w/ the circulating nurse and the transporter. It's the circu nurse who does the endoresement but sometimes the special endoresments are being done by the anesthesiologists.

PACU Inservice Ideas?
Oh, that's also one of my concerns in the area. My co-ctaffs are very nice people but sometimes they can get really loud that it sometimes turns me off.

Is ICU experience a requirment for PACU?
I was crosstrained in our SICU for four and a half months before my former supervisor actually assigned me in the PACU (PACU and SICU in our hospital are actually one area but we in the PACU only cater to patients who don't require overnight stay or ICU admission).

About Esomeprazole 40mg/IV...
Thanks mommatrauma! So all I need is 5ml of NSS for the dilution. Cool. However I haven't had the chance to prepare the esomeprazole drip yet. Looking forward to it. :)

About Esomeprazole 40mg/IV...
Thanks for the information. The esomeprazole/IV (Nexium) comes in a powder preparation, so you have to do the mixing before administering it to your patient. And we don't have an IV medication book here in the Philippines (err... I'm not sure). Although I did read the drug lit inside the box, there were no procedures on how to prepare it.

Nursery Print Scrubs
Hi everyone! I'm a newbie and this is my 1st post in the board. :) We don't wear printed scrub suits here, only the pedia resident doctors use them. The color of our uniform is aqua green with our hospital's logo embroidered on the breast pocket. Have a nice day people! :)
