  1. great advice! read the charts, catch up on what dayshift couldn't accomplish because they ran out of time! be a team player! you will learn so much in your first year and every year after. ltc nurse have to be skilled in all health conditions because you deal with many co morbidities! biggest advice, never stop learning. Research one thing a night you was not clear on! always be learning.
  2. I know I don't work with you but 1:40 (dayshift? evenings?) you are greatly appreciated here...that is tremendous!
  3. you are doing acute care! and it's marketable!!! y0ur patient loads are great. in my area we have 1:17 or 18 acute residents (skilled) and 1:27-30 ltc. take pride in what you do because ltc/snf's provide holistic care to co-morbilities and provide holistic care!
  4. kudo's to you!!! I have worked in ltc/snf my three years of nursing and have entered into management. snf's are the med surg, at least in our area. many area hospitals are closing med surg wings , and flexing nursing hours. I honestly believe this is because snf's are seeing a surge in acuity and due to financial reasons patients are being released earlier and earlier. it takes a dedicated and determined nurse to care for these individuals especially with the caseload! keep up the good work!
  5. multiple responses at multiple times. we save our fax confirmations and yet they say "didn't receive fax!". Yes we have similar problems daily!
  6. just now reading through your posts and I am moved and feel so bad for you, however I hope that your new job finds you well. I am putting up with a lot right now and contemplating a move but uncertain. How did your change do for you?
  7. I work 12 hours a day average and always on call....its exhausting
  8. I enjoy your posts as well! and if by your name you love nascar them Im really a fan! we just implemented pcc at our facility....a mess because I was only one training but I like the program.
  9. I recently posted something similar. I have worked for 3 years and became the don of the facility. I feel they do not respect me due to my age and lack of years in the field. However I was confident I could take this on. I feel I have the experience and research what is needed to sustain survey however the employees is what I am concerned about. I work the floor when needed, help them with their duties while mine suffer. I also thought that a positive smile, compliments, thank you's would help, however I too am at a loss....anymore comments would be helpful. How are you doing now?
  10. thank you! if only one of my employees could see what you did I would be extremely encouraged!
  11. im contemplating a move with the thought behind me "the grass isn't always greener" however I believe my first installation of don was in one of those never again facilities. I too am doubting my decision but seem to think it may be the facility im at. I really enjoy management and loved being a unit manager.
  12. I recently accepted the "promotion" of don at my facility. we have many long term employees. I am a newer RN and have worked at the facility for 3 years. We are faith based and I was promoted for my values. I had to learn the new role while implementing a lot of changes by corporate that the nurses were not in agreement with. We implemented a new EHR, went from 8 hour to 12 hour shifts and stressed our core values of respect and service like was not upheld in the past. Many long term employees are not in agreement with the fact that I am a young don and laugh at our value system we are trying to instill. Yet the stay miserable in their job and will not leave. We struggle with staffing as many ltc facilities in our area are. are their any words of encouragement or suggestions on how to gain respect and flip this place into a productive facility instead of a self centered one. I understand respect is earned and I have tried to do that to no avail. Teamwork is lacking and no matter what motivational speech is given it is laughed at. I came in to this with ideas however the attitudes of the staff has brought it to a hault. I am at a loss of how to change attitudes and feel like the employees are in charge of their own attitudes. I worked in this facility until the promotion as a staff nurse and unit manager and feel that because of this they do not see me as a leader in the position I am in and do not respect this. I have tried to help them out thinking this will gain respect thinking that if I accompany them and assist them with the changes and help them get used to the additional work an changes that it would be beneficial however I feel I am taken advantage of. I am assisting with their work and trying to do mine in the process but not succeeding. I work 18 hour days and still appreciation is lacking. They will take and take. How do I need to change my thinking or aide them in taking responsibility for their nursing duties? it seems they feel medication pass and a few minimal treatments are all they are responsible for
