  1. Once I started wearing Dansko clogs I never went back to any other shoe. I love them and own about 10 pairs. I wear different one each day to work! They do take a while to get used to and break in, but it is worth it. They dont work for everyone though! At my current job, I am the only nurse who wears them. The rest of the nurses wear different variety of tennis shoes. For me, they fit best with a thicker sock. Due to painful leg cramps, I now wear knee high compression socks with the clogs. Best decision EVER!!!!
  2. If you order online, you will not have the advantage of trying it on prior to purchase. I attempted once to order online.. even used the measurement chart they provided and the top was way too big. If i see a co-worker with some really cute scrubs, i always ask where they got them. They may shop at a store I have never heard of. There are so many variations in scrubs that really the ones you buy are going to be a personal choice. I particularly like the low rise flair pants that I find at my local wal - mart ( I know!!! Really!! lol). they are not the best quality and none of my coworkers like them but for me, they are great. I think you should def just start looking at stores and trying on different brands, styles, etc ... see what you like.
  3. Been a nurse for almost five years and have worked almost every single holiday! Thats part of being a nurse! Talk to your supervisor .. may be a simple explanation for it.
  4. The LVN program was hard for me. But I didnt have to study as much as the RN program. More critical thinking in the RN program... and you are building on the foundation you already have as an LVN.
  5. As a new nurse you will just have to pay your dues... But I do think it depends on where you work.... clinic, hospital, LTC... I used to work at a hospital and you rotated each year... For example, if you work thanksgiving you get xmas off - then the next year you are off thanksgiving and work xmas... My current job could care less!!!! I have worked almost every single holiday for over four years! And lucky me, the weekends as well. Although I look at it as, they worked around my school schedule for 18 months... So cant complain too much. If you really dont want to work holidays or weekends, then find a nursing job that is monday thru friday... Easier said then done.
  6. I took the boards on oct 15th. I called the board on friday the 25th. They told me over the phone I passed. And my license was posted on Saturday the 26th. So I am not sure what is going on.. Just glad I passed and officially have a license!!!!!!
  7. Nursing is a difficult career to be in... no matter what job or position you may hold. I knew this going into it ten years ago.. I commend you for being so honest about your feelings, but mostly for realizing you are unhappy and doing something about it. Good luck in the future.
  8. @nursephillyphil if they're going by alphabetical order then i have a while to go.....bleh! 1 hour from being 21 days since I took the nclex....still getting the good popup though thank God.to those who have found out already, congrats and i hate you lol I hope you find out soon. I cant imagine waiting 21 days!
  9. Thanks.. Was just wondering.. You know everyone seems to tell you something else.. And you never know what is true or not.
  10. I think for an RN program, do the classroom... not online. The bridge program I did was set up to into core weeks.. Every six weeks we went to class for 4 days.. had clinicals every sunday. The program was set up so you could work full time during the whole program.
  11. I decided to do the LVN - RN program.. Graduated in June. Now looking into the BSN programs... I have had to look for programs that allow me to continue to work full time while also going to school.
  12. If you are already almost finished with RN program, then dont stop!!!! keep going. The longer you are out of school, the harder it is to get back in. And working in LTC does not mean that you spend all your time with the residents. Instead of 5 patients you have at least 24 to 30! Not only are you the charge nurse as LVN, you do admissions, discharges, pass all medications, do all treatments, assessments, charting, faxing or calling MD..... And dont forget if someone has IV going... Trying to fit in a dinner break is next to impossible. At my job, the RN and LVN do the same job as well.. Just the RN gets paid more. Good Luck!
  13. Did you not realize that this is a discussion board? where you post a message and other people comment? Obviously not. Good luck in your next career. It seems you will need it.

I think your choice is going to have to be centered around what YOU personally can do at this time. For me, I had no choice but to work full time thru both my nursing programs. So my choice of school was more limited. I did an LVN program at a community college that was part time - which enabled me to work full time. I then did an RN program (ADN) program thru a private college and it also was part time. So I was able to work full time as LVN while completing it. Luckily my job agreed to work around my school schedule when I needed time off. Now I am currently researching schools to continue for my BSN or Masters.. have not fully decided yet. Unfortunately I think I will always have some debt from going to school!! I attended Pacific Union College for the RN program. A private school - so yes it is more money - but it was the first school that I got accepted to after applying to many many schools. But after searching for jobs... I wish I had my BSN already!!!! So my only advice is to choose one that works for you but also has BSN. GOODLUCK!!!!!!!
