  1. Yes, I would like to...but.. with minimum starting pay, I can't even live on it. If they gave us a few dollars more, I don't mind giving some of the portion to my preceptors. They will feel that they are obligated to teach as more like the clinical instructor in nursing school do Thanks for all your reply.
  2. I was also a former CNA. That's the mistake that I thought it might have happened to me. But it didn't. BTW, HR previously warned me that I may get CNA pay for about a week or so before RN pay because they can't financially change the payrate based on new position during the two-week paycheck period! You can't have two hourly rates in one pay check. Fortunately, I started to work at the begining of pay period.. Therefore, I get RN pay on the first paycheck..... however, I don't get as many hours for orientations during the first week as the new employee. I don't get a full-time hours initially. :uhoh21: Talk to HR and your manager.. I hope everything work out for you.
  3. I just wonder if nurses get paid more by becoming preceptors? I would feel bad if my preceptor is a victim whom is randomly selected without compensation .....I just would like someone who is willing to do it. It does not matter whether they are motivated by monetary gain or their desire to teach. Where I work, it seem to me that my preceptors change every two weeks I still do not or will never get a permanent preceptor. I am jealous of some other new nurses who have a permanent preceptor. I just wonder if the manager just said "you have to precept such and such new nurse this week".... and then that nurse had no choice but to do it... this is not appropriate especially in critical care setting. I am just curious but it is not appropriate to ask them :chuckle
  4. I totally agree! I know a place that offer 10,000 sign-on bonus... but I know that I am not going there... I was there as a tech and I know how crazy it is.
  5. I just started my ICU internship... The intership is 6 months, including rotation to all critical care units and ER. It is two year contract. I really think that the rotations to other critical care units unnecessarily lengthen the time of the intership.. Although I can't change my job right now, I'm still curious what is the length of ICU orientation in other hospitals.. how long is the contract after completion of the internship? Do they make you go through formal critical care course or they just let you learn on the job? Do you get a sign on bonus?
  6. Few of my previous classmate started with insurance company.... I think things might be better when you begin to familiar with the jobs for 6 months.
  7. Your orientation is so long... What unit you are in? Why do they require that length of orientation?
  8. Congratulation!!
  9. I used NCSBN for the review questions only. I didn't study their content.. Their questions are very hard and mentally prepare you for NCLEX!! I think Kaplan is the best (coz I didn't time to try Mosby or Lippicott) and their questions are worded just like NCLEX... But you still need to know the content...That's what my weak point and get overwhelmed about exam.... For content review, I recommend Saundras 2nd edition. But their questions are much easier and is less similar to NCLEX, so you may need difficult questions from either Kaplan or NCSBN to strengthen the testing taking skills (like prioritizing or delegation). I was Kaplan that help me with "the most stable, least stable" senerio. However, I am an advocate for Saundras, too. Their rationales are very well-explained and easy to understand. In conclusion, I recommend either (Kaplan+saundras) or (NCSBN+saundras). Like "xokelly2", I kept a small notebook that help me organize "lab value", "positions", "diet requirement", and "infection control" of each disease process or procedure. Anyway, you can't believe me much about test preparation because I almost failed with 265.
  10. That's funny about pearsonvue... Their system was on maintenaine this morning. I thought it was because they messed up about posting the results... but I checked it again... and I still passed.. I just gave my mom 1,000 dollars coz I bet on that... but I owned her a lot and want to give her something when I am a bit more stable anyhow ... Life is uncertain.. I have situation like this so many... from now on, I just try not to be serious about sth much... I will start the same day as yours, Monday. .. I think we can now move on to the next forum "first year in nursing". Good luck!
  11. Thank you very much! I don't know whether you took NCLEX already but Good luck. Just FYI... don't be nervous if you don't get cut off as soon as you want. My weak point was that I went to take the test with the mindset that I will get cut of at 75-150.... when the number went up and up, I began to feel anxious, sweat, cry and lose concentration and went all the way to 265..don't think of the number of the questions and level of difficult at the ime... During the test, I kept thinking when the questions lacked the bolded words "most, initial, or immediate", I must have been going down hill in the graph... Just answer them all with the best of your ability... and just manage your time because you never know how many questions you will have... I answer my last questions within the last minute!
  12. I passed with 265!! I can't believe my eyes.... I was crying and laughing about 4 min before I can calm down...
  13. I passed with 265! I can't stop crying and laughing at the same time at this point.........
  14. I just called Georgia State Board of Nursing this morning. NCLEX of LPN is 45 days but for waiting period for retaking NCLEX for RN is still 90 days...
  15. Hey.Denham0607. I appreciate your information... Just for clarification.. Wating period = waiting time to retake NCLEX again... Atlanta is the city, not my username...right? What you mean that waiting time to retake NCLEX in Atlanta, Georgia is now 45 days? I thought the waiting time to retake NCLEX in "GEORGIA" was 90 days... 3 months... and I heard they are very slow on paperwork processing... And some of my friends who failed on January have to wait 3 months.. some went to other states to take in 45 days. By far, I haven't found the information on the internet that confirm this yet... I guess I will call board of nursing tommorrow...
  16. If I were you, I would be glad to work as a tech to "KEEP" my prospective job. I may request my manager to do it PRN so that I can have more time off to prepare for NCLEX. I guess once you are an employee (a tech or intern), it will be easier for human resouce to slide you up to RN positon very quickly after you passed........ But I am sure you will pass coz your last question is a priority question... and you only got 192.... and you didn't get 265 so it doesn't matter what your last question is...
  17. Thank you for your reply. You are in better game than me 192.... I hope you passed.. you will... one of my friend got 150 and passed... My last question is NOT a priority question and VERY easy.. I don't feel very good about it... Deep breath!! Tommorrow is the date of the result...... Thre are 2 things I gonna do... First, Check the result... Second, go to the hospital in person and talk to the nurse manager... If I pass, it would be wonderful... If I fail, then I will talk to the manger about the possibility of extending the start date..... If both of the tasks cannot be fullfilled.. then it's OVER... I will quit my tech job and stay home... No point of keep working there if I won't have the job of my dream after passing. BUT Nevertheless, I will retake the exam to prove that I can make it too... I would rather be an RN with no job rather than not being one.....at least, that's what we went to school for...
  18. It came with the Kaplan course and Kaplan content review book... I'm sorry that I don't know where to order it.. may be from the website http://www.kaplannursing.com I can't 100% guarantee that Kaplan is the best....especially you only have two weeks left.. But from my experience, many questions on the tests are worded just like kaplan.... I didn't do well on the exam myself... But Kaplan Question Bank is better than Question Trainer 1-7 because it explain the rationales in details. Although the questions on Saundras are easy, but the rationales are well-explained. IT is very good for content review... If I have to take it again, I will definitely use it... BUt I pray that this is my last time... even though I went up to 265... hope miracle happen..
  19. I just took the test and anxiously wait for the result... Use Kaplan for priority and delegation questions. Many questions are worded just like Kaplan but you also need easy questions and details from Saundra... Know how to think in your mind which patients are most stable or least stable and why??.. I have LOTS of those questions.... Kaplan is very good with these types of questions.... I wish people guided me like this before I took my test... I should have go through Kaplan Question Trainer 1-7 for the second time to review rationale.
  20. I'm glad that you can take it again soon and begin your orientation.. In Georgia, it take longer even if I want to take it somewhere else. The paperwork will take times.... so, I don't know what to tell the nurse manager if I can't start until the next 3 months..... This hospital recruit new grads into intership on a specific period... so I don't even know that it can be pushed back...
  21. You are right about fluoxetine... My mom took antipsychotics and I saw her sleep a lot during daytime... that's why I had that thought... I took Benadryl instead... I think my mother gave me wrong meds... I still can't sleep. I think she gave me Seroquel instead.... It is stupid that a new grade lose his/her prospective job if he/she fail... why do they offer new grads jobs in the first place?.... It is cruel that the employers said that new grads can't keep the positions when they failed... Have anyone here lose the prospective job when you failed 1st time? Do they give you a chance to retake it?
  22. I live in Georgia, too. How long did you wait after the 1st time that you started your paperwork on SC. And then how long does it take to transfer the license back to Georgia.... If you can do that in a week, then I would take the next time in SC. Anyway, I haven't found out the result yet.... I had 265 questions... Hope God will be on my side.....
  23. anyway, I have another questions... can I reapply for some other states that have 45 days waiting time while I took the first time in Georgia?
  24. Dear Sunzanne4, I am prepared as much as I thought it was enough. I did almost 4,000. Kaplan (2,500), Suandras (300), and NCBSN ( about 500). I think my problem is I did not prepare BOARDLY about all diseases and I did not mentally prepare for those many questions on the exam. I concentrate to much on priority, delegation questions. I know the trick now. I wish I can go back and take it again. Just doing the question is not sufficient. I got TONS of priority questions initially but then the questions just fluctuate between priority and general questions.....I know why.. it is becuase I am in the borderline due to may lack of knowledge about many diseases (I missed many easy questions that deal with specific disease)! Towards the end, I had a lot of priority questions... then my last question is easy!!
  25. I just took NCLEX today and I went all the way to 265.... I did not mentally prepare for so many question like this... The last question was easy and not even a priority question..I am not even sure I get it right ... I heard it is possibly the last question that determine your passing.. In contrast to before taking the test, I am in hypothyroid state right now... I wish I could just took the Prozac that my mother has and go to sleep but I couldn't find the bottle... I just bought a gallon of milk and that's all I will eat for the next 48 hr. MY question is this... in Georgia, the waiting period to retake the test is 90 days... Can I reapply for license in other state that allow me to retake in 45 days. I heard about COMPACT license that allow you to work in so many states, which may include Georgia? so that I can begin to work earlier...I am at risk of losing my job at this point... I got to talk to my manager when I know my result ... 90 days is a long time to wait...
