ICU nurses, what's your daily routine?
I just finished orienting in day shift and am now headed to nocs for my last month. Your routine sounds EXACTLY like my day routine, plus or minus a road trip or two. I too am struggling with the charting aspect. We use Cerner í ¾í´® I have always charted in real time but I have had several nurses, and even my director, tell me they always charted their assessments, turns, restraints, etc on the rounded hour, mainly the even hour. So instead of my assessment being charted at like 0739, it's on a nice 0800. I also have a Kardex for each pt with boxes for each hour where I can write u/o when dumped but can't chart immediately and a list of all the q2h things to be charted on so I can cross them off. Hope this helps! í ½í±í ¼í¿»

What is your opinion on getting the flu shot?
My job also requires that employees have the annual flu shot. This year, we each get to put stickers on our badges (showing our pride??) when we get the vaccine. A bunch of my coworkers got severe reactions from the multi-dose vials… fever, redness, pain, body aches. Interesting. Think its from the preservative. Anyway, I'm staying from that type at the very least.

Oh! My feet! What are the best shoes to wear at work??
Alegrias. Pricey, but I found them to be worth it. Also, if they get squeaky on you, take the insole out, sprinkle a generous amount of baby powder in, and reinsert insole. Squeak be gone!

Not learning A&P
I too am having a difficult time with A&P (but I am in a classroom setting). I've used Khan Academy and an A&P for Dummies book to help me get the basics before I dive into the details. I also learn better through videos/listening rather than straight reading. Khan Academy has saved me for several classes, including a statistics course! Good luck and hang in there!!

Need help figuring out where to start! Alternatives to ABSN?
I'm in the same boat as you. I have a BFA and am going back to school for nursing. I also looked at accelerated programs, but they are sooooo expensive! I have decided to do a nursing program at a community college. The CC has a deal with a nearby university that students pursuing their ADN can begin an online BSN program after the first year of CC nursing school. So basically, I will be doing a crapload of school for my second year, but two years from now, I will have a BSN and not as much debt. This is another option you could look into. Also, the CC here doesn't have many prerequisites. Good luck!
