  1. How did your first clinical day go?
  2. I’m about to start NR 507(pathophysiology) next week. I’m looking at the syllabus and it appears to be a lot of work. There’s a lot of reading and we will have a three part case study to complete weekly. Part one of the case study must be answered by Tuesday, part two must be answered by Friday, part three must be answered by Sunday, and we must respond to at least one peer. The case studies are worth 100 points for each study. There will be weekly quizzes that will help us prepare for the exams, a mid-term, and a comprehensive final. Study guides will be available to help with exams but you have to fill in the answers which appear to be time consuming. Also, we must complete the workbook that comes with the textbook. I had a lot of questions and emailed the dean of the FNP program yesterday. He is very nice and helpful. I wanted to know what software if any that would be available to us for practicums. He stated we will be using epocrates and dynamed. In the capstone class (NR 661), it will be mandatory for us to take and pass the APEA review course in order to graduate. I hope this information helps.
  3. No textbook required for NR 500. You only need the APA manual and make sure you keep it for the entire program.
  4. Why are you getting so defensive now? People are calling you out because we are tired of all the attacks you are making about schools we attend. Since January 2014, you have made a full-time job bashing programs that you feel are subpar. I'm actually dumbfounded the amount of time and energy you have put into being so negative about different schools. About a decade ago when I was a novice nurse such as yourself, I was busy learning my new role. I didn't have time to spend bashing people and different schools. To be honest with you, it really sounds like you hate nursing and the subpar education we get. Why not go to med school or the PA route? School is what you make out of it, period. Take high school for example, many who graduate go on to be very successful and others are not successful. It's the individual and not the school that makes a person successful. Also, don't assume just because you go to a certain school you will always have an advantage over other NPs. It will come down to what you are bringing to the table such as experience, personality, appearance, etc. So, let's stimulate a post on how we can work together to make our profession better regardless of where we received our education. Let's debate ways we can make the biggest impact on patients. Let's debate ways we can stand united in our profession. Let's debate ways we can help each other find preceptors for clinicals. Let's debate ways we can save on textbooks. Are you starting to get my point? The issues you have with nursing should be taking up with your BON and the other agencies. Not us! Not on this board! What good will it do? You are whining to the wrong people. Can we all just...... Get along?
  5. The exams start once you get into the specialty classes like patho.
  6. You are right about Florida and I also hope when i'm done with school this will no longer be an issue.
  7. I love eight week courses. I received my BSN from Chamberlain so the transition process for me was great because they already had all my information. I contacted the advisor in September about enrolling in the MSN program for November. I finished my BSN at the end of October and started my MSN program the next week.
  8. Good question! I’m not scheduled to take NR-503 until May, so I will let someone else answer this question.
  9. I completed NR-500 last session and I really enjoyed the class. NR-500 is a foundation class that provides students with important skills necessary for them to be successful in graduate level nursing classes. Currently I’m taking two classes over eight weeks which they don’t recommend. However, you can do this up until you start your specialty classes. In the two classes I’m taking now, we have discussion questions which have to be answered in each thread (two per class) by midnight Wednesday and we have to respond to a classmate by midnight Sunday. All papers and other assignments are due by midnight Sunday. I’m taking two classes so I have a paper due every week and a ton of reading. I also have a big presentation due week seven in one of my classes.
  10. Congratulations!
  11. Anything in particular you would like to know?
  12. Thanks for the helpful information ChelleLynn1079 and Davesbride.
  13. I live in Jacksonville and I just started my program with Chamberlain last session. I have until November of this year to secure a preceptor.
