Scared about my CNA exam. Any advice, tips?
I just talked through my skill the whole time. 'Alright Mr. Jones, now I need to give you a bed bath if that's okay with you. Great, let me wash my hands & get my equipment together. Here's your call light & your bed is in low position. I'll be right back. I got your washcloths & towels & clean gown. I'm going to fill the basin with water. This water feels good to me, how about you? Great. I'm going to start with your eyes wiping inner aspect to outer aspect. Okay, next eye. Now I'm going to wash your face.' Etc etc etc.

hospital vs home health vs LTC
Home health is extremely flexible, you can basically make your own schedule as long as there are clients who need a CNA during the times you are available. Home health agencies are typically pretty understanding when it comes to flexible scheduling.

CNAs in the Operating Room
I'm so excited to learn there's a place for CNA's in the OR! I can see how already being in there could help me get in as an RN! Thank you :)

CNAs in the Operating Room
Thank you for the information! I'm almost through CNA I & am leaning towards OR Nursing after nursing school & this would be a great introduction!

Age of a late bloomer
I hope not! I just turned 29 & will get my CNA II before starting my pre reqs. If all goes as planned I won't even start nursing school until I'm 31. I know plenty of RN who didn't start until after 25 :)

case about obstetrics(i need your help)
Oh & if we're talking EMS first priority on scene is the same as any other -Scene safe? BSI.
-
case about obstetrics(i need your help)
Is childbirth in the BLS scope of practice? What would your priorities be on a call involving bleeding, possible airway obstruct? What info do you think would be pertinent? Would you need to know things like how far along is mom? Does mom have any medical history? Just the answer to those questions could change the answer to the first two questions you asked about the scenario. Always, always, ALWAYS start with your basics ABC's.

The Truth of being a C.N.A
If you're looking for glory EMS is not the place for you. If it's not in you to be a caregiver then get out if healthcare. I have my EMT-B & I'm in CNA class. In this field if you can't accept your own pat on the back as your reward for a job well done you aren't going to make it. Want to know what people call EMT-B's? Ambulance drivers. There's some respect for ya. If I'm being hard on you it's because you need a wake up call. Crappy employers & crappy co workers are going to be at any job you have it's not just at hospitals & not just because you're a CNA. If you think working at Burger King will be more fulfilling, who's stopping you?

What was the MOST ridiculous thing a patient came to the ER for?
I'm former EMS but can I chime in too? -I've been dizzy for 3 years -There's a boil on my butt -I got diabetes ma'am, I can't help it (ETOH requested by PD) -I want to give my mom this gift & she'll only come see me if I'm in the hospital -Itchy vag. (Pt brought a large jar of vasoline to apply as needed. It was needed in the ED hallway)

Advice on the track to RN
Thank you so much! I'm still figuring things out but I'll make it work! I know the end result is whats important & the sacrifices I have to make will be well worth it.

CNA pre-admissions test?
Two schools in my area & one required placement testing & the other didn't require anything but payment for the class. Neither required an interview! I guess it just depends on where you're at?

Advice on the track to RN
My school doesn't have a daycare center but they do have daycare assistance & I'm sure we will qualify. The perk of LPN before RN (other than the experience) is that only LPN are offered nursing classes in the evening. Daycare closes at 6pm & my fiancé doesn't get off work until then. Hurdle after hurdle, but I'm a girl who likes a challenge! I'll figure all this out yet! Thanks for your replies!

Advice on the track to RN
I appreciate your feedback so very much! I think you're both leading me in the right direction & I can see how the money would draw me into staying in a position instead of continuing on to get my RN. I still have some figuring out to do as far as daycare goes & whether I'll be able to work + go to school or just pay bills with loans & grants. Thank you!!

Advice on the track to RN
I'm a current CNA student. I have my EMT also. I have a 8.5 month old baby & I'm a stay at home mom. We don't have a lot of money & it's a strain for us to put our baby in daycare for 2 days a week so I can go to class. I'm giving all this background because everyone keeps telling me my family/financial situation is what I need to consider when deciding how to go about becoming an RN. So I figured I'd come to y'all for advice since you have all been through nursing school & lots of you probably did it in different ways. Should I continue by getting my CNAII then LPN before going to school for my RN or just dive right in? I'm going to have to work to pay for school & more days in daycare. What does anyone think would be ideal for my situation?

CNA pre-admissions test?
At the school I went through I had to test at a 7th grade level in math to enter the Cna program. It was mostly addition, subtraction & multiplication with a few division problems, some algebra & some decimals & fractions. Nothing too scary!

Any Advice on Caring for Combative Residents/Patients as a CNA/GNA?
I have a special place in my heart for dementia pts I've been kicked & yelled at but you have to understand the place it's coming from. They're usually really frightened & don't understand what's happening. They are combative because they genuinely fear for their lives I believe, how else could a 90 y/o woman suddenly have superman strength? If one day someone told you your entire reality was wrong & all the things you believe about the world (place, time, person) were wrong wouldn't you too be scared? I know sometimes pt may use things to their benefit but I give them the benefit of the doubt. I once had to explain to a pt that the straps on my stretcher were seatbelts because she scratched, kicked , bit & fought me trying to secure her. She just thought I was trying to tie her down.

CNA to LPN to RN
It's a requirement to have CNA I here to get into the LPN program. I'm going to take small steps to RN by doing CNA I, CNA II, LPN & then RN. I think this is the best way for me to learn & be better prepared for Nursing school & the NCLEX. I can only learn by doing.

CNA jobs in a hospital
I don't know from experience but I've heard they're both really challenging in their own ways both are hard work.

CNA jobs in a hospital
That's great! I don't mind LTC work I have a special place in my heart for the elderly & especially dementia patients but I want the benefits more specifically the tuition reimbursement that hospitals in my area can offer for nursing school. Thanks :)
