I'm not saying it SHOULD apply to smokers, It just ****** me off that it applies to alcoholics and drug addicts (and sex addicts and food addicts and gambling addicts and...and...and....) but NOT smokers. Either addiction is a disease or it is not, you don't get to pick and chose WHICH addictions are a disease and which are not. If an alcoholic or drug addict comes to their employer and tells them that they are addicted and want help it is ILLEGAL for that employer to fire them. The most that they can do is to move them laterally into another position that is not financially/legally/security sensitive until they get "clean".

I am not a travel nurse, so I do not know if they participate in the program, but Baylor University Medical Center is THE best hospital in the area.

As far as an MI, I have had three and I am still a fully licensed Class A CDL truck driver with a fully legal D.O.T. Medical Card and 20 years of over-the-road experience in 48 states and 5 provinces of Canada and over 2 million miles without an accident who retired a year ago to take my seat in nursing school.

As a retired over-the-road trucker, I worked 70+ hours a week for many years but it is a young person's game. It takes a toll on you mentally and physically.

You best ask your instructor if pre-made drug cards are allowed. They are not in my program (and the drug cards are for Nursing, not Pharm in my program) and not making your own will cause you to fail.

They don't let "students who aren't qualified into the programs". Our program has AT LEAST 3-4 applicants for every available seat. ONLY the best get in but that doesn't mean that everyone is cut out to make it through the program. Those that do make it through the program reap the rewards. Our program has one of the best NCLEX pass rates in New England.

At our local hospitals, staff are not allowed to carry personal cell phones while on duty.

I am in the same type of area and I agree. I plan to continue into an RN-BSN program as soon as I start work after graduation.

As a former truck driver I worked 70+ hours a week for 20 years, but it isn't very good for your health. I would recommend 60 at the most and even that depends on your age, health, etc.

I am the "Dad" of our cohort, being the oldest male (started with 3, lost one last semester and gained 2 returns this semester) and among the oldest students (I am 44). I am in no way discriminated against for being a man.
