Missing lecture is no big deal, that's your own prerogative. You can miss a day in clinical if you're sick or there's an emergency but you must be excellent when it comes to skills, otherwise your clinical instructor may not pass you.

I think most of this is a MYOB kind of thing. Who cares what other people do? Does it really effect you that someone walks in an hour late? Or that people complain about the uniform? Or that someone does their nails? The only thing you said that would annoy me is the changing of the schedule, which would I'm sure not fly with many students who have set their schedules around it. Everything else is really on your instructors. They're not idiots. They know you can find things on the Internet. If it was a big deal to them they would change the assignment. It's up to them to enforce their rules. Same as an employer. Students putting themselves at risk have no leg to stand on if they get in trouble. It's not any of my business, doesn't affect how well I do on exams. I complain about the uniform. Our school thought the women's scrubs were too risqué, so we all wear men's/unisex, which you can imagine fits terribly on many. And our scrubs are teal, so some of the men in our class have voiced their disdain. I don't think complaining about something you're forced to wear means you're not proud of your school. That's ridiculous. Also, I'm one of those people that search the web in class. I don't learn well in the lecture. I do better listening to the voice recordings at home with the book in front of me. Ive consistently scored in the 88-92% on exams. Again, what is what I do on my laptop a concern to you? The person that asks stupid questions just humiliates themselves, why do you even give it a second thought? Nursing school is already stressful. I really don't see why anyone would put any time or energy into what other people do.

Can you start earlier? When baby is a newborn to about one year, it's actually A lot easier because they sleep a lot and I had used that time to study. You get used to a little sleep (I started after a couple of weeks when I had mine). Toddler age is really hard, I have to usually find a sitter just to study because my toddler only has one short nap a day and is up until 930 pm. I'm usually too tired to study after. I've talked to a few others with young children that felt the same way. If you can't start earlier, I would plan to stay after class to study, because you won't get that time when you get home.

Student loans, scholarships, and major budgeting.

I think you're going to have a very difficult time in nursing school if youre finding human anatomy hard to pass. Nursing school is basically human anatomy and physiology on steroids. Those that got As in basic human anatomy are getting lower Bs/upper Cs in class. There are many other careers that work with patients (social services, physical therapy, occupational therapy, ultrasound). That's not to say you can never be a nurse. There are so many people that go into nursing as their second or third career. I'm not saying you should "give up" but I think you're at the point where you should probably explore other options similar to your interests and see if anything stands out to you.

I'm a pretty shy person but I've made a great group of friends in my program. There's no drama and we help each other out. A plus size to being friends with most of your cohort is the networking opportunities that comes later :)

I understand feeling upset. I had clinicals at a hospital for two semesters at a place that was 40 minutes from my house no traffic. A couple times it took me 2 hours to get home (and then I had to write a care plan), only to turn around and come back less than ten hours later. Meanwhile others had clinicals ten minutes from their house. I envied them, but honestly you just get over it and adapt. With the hundreds of students they have to place, some are going to get the short end of the stick. There's a million other things to stress about in nursing school.

At the end of block 4 you follow a RN around for I believe 3 12 hour shifts a week the last few weeks. It is different than clinical as you act a hired RN I believe.

I can't find anything online about maricopa county community college preceptorships. Do you get to pick where you want to go? Any info would be great!

Congrats nothing yet for the UoPX/gwcc, but they hadn't finished placing for fall 14 so not expecting anything any time soon!

Thanks :) and yeah I was surprised as well. And when I talked to the UoPX advisor she automatically assumed I would apply to both and had the fall schedule ready to go over.

Good luck to you as well. For me, UoPX had the least amount of pre reqs compared to nau. I know they only take 30 applicants so we'll see what happens. Another poster on here said her UoPX group didn't have 30 people apply so everyone got in that applied. How is the financial aid different if you don't mind me asking?

Hi I applied today for the gwcc/uopx cep program. Turns out they were still taking applications for fall 2014. I didn't apply for that because I'll have a newborn when the fall session starts, but I wonder if that means not enough people applied to the fall session. I applied for spring 2015. I really hope I'll hear back in two weeks, but doesn't seem likely if they're still processing from the feb. application session.

From all the boards I've read on here, it can take a few days to around 3 weeks to hear back from the schools. I think it's a different wait for ASU/NAU/UoPX. And I don't think there's a way to find out where you are on the list, as its based on who applies. I know they have a lot more spaces for ASU and NAU than UoPX, which only has 30.

I don't know anything about the CNA market here but there is an over abundance of nurses here than there are jobs. I know a lot of nurses here are looking to move elsewhere for a better market. If she has a long term goal of being a nurse perhaps she should look into other states first as she'll probably need a BSN to make herself marketable here. But Phoenix is beautiful :)

For the ASU/UoPX its $450 per credit and NAU its $350 per credit. UoPX and NAU require 30 credits and ASU 47 I believe. So for me (UoPX) its an extra $13.5k when its all said and done. I think the ASU route is around $20k and NAU around $10k. NAU looks the most favorable but it has sooo many more prereqs than the other two, so unless you have a lot of general education classes done first, its pricey. It's nice getting the BSN, but I'm trying to avoid loans, which means working like crazy until I start the program. I would definitely prefer working as an RN while getting the BSN.

They made it a big point to insist that the CEP didn't take away from the regular nursing pool - but that might be an attempt to squash complaints. I suppose its all politics and we really don't have control over it. Congrats on being placed! I don't think I would do the cep program if I was close to getting placed, as it's going to cost an extra arm and leg (and were not supposed to be working? eeeek!).

At the information session for the cep program they insist that the cep spots do not take away from the regular nursing spots. They simply add them on and I believe most cep students are grouped together. I don't think t he cep seats are included in the numbers that are on the website as they get placed at a different time.

It seems like the 16 week course is pretty demanding, so I can only imagine how the 8 week course is. I'm taking HCR 210/220/230/240 and probably spend 2-3 hours a day/4 days a week on all my classes and I currently have all A's, so I feel like I can invest the time - I've read a lot of posts about Rio's Bio 201/202 and they're negative. But then again I feel like 205 is just a lot of memorization where as Bio 201/202 is a lot of concepts. How long are these essays?

I wanted to retake my bio 205 grade before applying to the CEP program in February. I'm already taking 14 credits this semester and its just about all I can handle, so I was thinking about taking an 8week course at the end of November. When I first took this class at MCC I had a solid B for most of the semester with minimal effort. However, I bombed the final as I didn't study at all and it brought my grade down to a 79%, so I ended the semester with a C. So I know if I took it again for a full semester I could get an A, but the 8 weeks seems a little daunting, and I read that Rio is demanding online. Is it possible to get an A? Or do they ask for too much? It would be the only class I would be taking so I can put the time in. Any advice would be great as well.

No its the gpa towards the prereqs. Though I actually misspoke, I have current gpa of 3.2. I have seen people get into the CEP program with less, although at the cep information meeting, they said they see an avg of 3.5.

Hi freckles! If I applied to the CEP program right now I would have a 3.17. I plan on taking one, maybe two courses that would knock my gpa up to 3.5/3.6 ish if I do not get in. I saw some people posting that they had lower gpas (around 3.10) and still got into the program. So there's always chance!
