1. Hi 707sciguy! I have to say that although the rejection from SSU was hard, I am so thankful because I was eventually accepted into the nursing program at CSUS, and I think it is a much better fit or me. Good luck with your application!!!
2. I'm in! Can't wait to meet you all and get this journey started. :)
3. jike- Here is the link to the AP credit tests, GE areas and equivalencies: Transfer Admission - Sacramento State Catalog It looks like you should be fine with your score. I wouldn't worry about it.
4. Janechon, Here is a checklist for a previous cohort: http://www.csus.edu/hhs/nrs/programs/undergraduate/traditional/Docs/2013_fall_pre-entry_checklist.pdf It will give you an idea of what needs to be completed before we start..
5. Welcome, janechon! I know how you feel. I was relieved for about 10 minutes after reading the email, then I checked and re-checked my application to make sure I filled everything out correctly. I'm trying not to think about all the "what-if's". I'm sure you will be fine with your points!
6. Check your emails!!! RE: Spring 2016 Admission - IMPORTANT Deadlines Thank you for your patience! We know you are anxiously waiting for your admission decision, and we are working extended hours to bring you news as quickly as possible. In the meantime, we hope the following information will be helpful—please read to the very end! For additional updates on the admission process, please check back on the Traditional BSN homepage, http://www.csus.edu/HHS/nrs/programs/undergraduate/traditional/. Due to human resource limitations, please do not call or email the School of Nursing. Thank you! We received over 290 applications for 80 seats. Based on unverified student-reported data, the applicant ranked number 80 has 79 points—the applicant ranked 120 has 73 points. We anticipate the final cut-score will be lower when we have completed the evaluation and Intent to Enroll process, but we regret it may be higher than previous spring terms, http://www.csus.edu/HHS/nrs/programs/undergraduate/traditional/Docs/app_pool_stat_8-31-15.pdf. Admission decisions will be emailed as follows: Candidates ranked 1-120 will be notified in late November just before registration opens onNovember 30. Candidates ranked 121 or higher, based on student-reported data, will be notified tomorrow, Friday, October 30 after 5 p.m.
7. Honey CLover, I completely agree. As an aside, I have to say that I have no doubt that you will one day be an amazing patient advocate
8. Honestly, my opinion on your original post was based more on the tone rather than your points. The screen name didn't help either. If you have looked at the stats for prior semesters and/or the posts from prior cohorts you would know that it is incredibly rare for someone to qualify for all 12 bonus points, as well as achieve a near-perfect GPA and TEAS score. You were obviously one of those lucky few. Congratulations! I would be excited as well! Since the overall experience was easy for you I can see how it would be hard to empathize with those of us who have spouses and children relying on us to achieve this goal, and making huge sacrifices along the way. The application period is stressful mainly because we have a lot riding on the acceptance and/or denial. So I now understand that maybe it was a general lack of awareness rather than you intentionally trying to be condescending. This forum has provided an amazing opportunity for all of us to support, encourage, and learn from one another, so please don't feel like your thoughts and opinions are not welcome. We will all (hopefully) be classmates soon enough and I'm sure the support and encouragement will prove to be invaluable.:)
9. I also thought that post was very condescending. In fact, I originally thought it was a troll so I just left it alone. To get a score of 102 you would have to have a perfect (or near perfect) GPA, TEAS, and have some of those bonus points. Based on the stats it looks like that is pretty rare. In fact, half of the applicants for this fall were below the alternate cutoff score, so that has to tell you something. As a mother to three young children, wife, and full-time student I have worked incredibly hard to earn my points and I think it's safe to assume that most of the nursing applicants would say the same. I am grateful for the struggle though as it will make the acceptance that much more rewarding :)
10. Looks like they posted an update on the website- "Admission decisions and complete evaluations will be emailed to all applicants after 5:00 p.m. Friday, November 27". Let's hope the next 7 weeks go by fast!
11. I totally understand! I did exactly the same thing. I ended up returning to school after about 8 years and had to fix some of the damage that I did when I was young and completely unfocused. If I were you I would speak with a counselor at your community college to see if they grant repeats for reasons such as significant time lapse, to raise GPA, etc. The official policy at my college is that you cannot repeat any course that you earned a C or higher. However, we can petition to repeat a course for the reasons that I just gave. The counselor approved the repeats and I just repeated the classes that I previously earned B's in (which happen to be English, critical thinking, and chemistry). You may be able to get into a late-start English class this fall then take critical thinking and anatomy in the spring. You can have one science and one non-science in-progress when you apply, so if you managed to get those classes in the order that I mentioned you can apply with a 4.0 for their fall 2016 semester. Good luck!!
12. Have you looked at CSUS? They do not count your overall GPA. They give points for your nursing GPA and TEAS score with bonus points for things like foreign language proficiency, volunteer or work experience, and economic status. Here is the link to their selection criteria: http://www.csus.edu/HHS/nrs/programs/undergraduate/traditional/Docs/selection_criteria_8-31-15.pdf. If you can, I would suggest taking anatomy over. You can take it the semester that you are applying and us "in-progress" for the grade. If you have no other B's in your prereq's then your application GPA would be a 4.0. With that GPA and your TEAS score you should have no problem being accepted.
13. I wouldn't worry about it. I applied on the first day of the application period and I had my transcripts send right away. I'm sure your status will change by the 1st.
14. Yes, you can take it in two weeks. Just be aware that some schools require that you have a certain amount of time between attempts and other schools will only take your first or second attempts. This is just something to consider if you plan on applying to multiple schools for the Spring semester or for future semesters. I personally think you have a great chance at improving your score. Now that you know what to expect you can really focus on your weak areas. A lot of people that I have talked to have done better on second and third attempts. Good luck!!
15. Yes! Click on "Student Center", then click on "Main Menu" at the top of the screen. You should see "Student Admissions", click on that. Then click "Sac State Admissions" and "Self Service App Status". It should tell you whether you have been accepted or if it is still pending. :)
16. I hope you are right. My guess is that the final cutoff for Spring will be 78 or 79 points. We'll see.
17. I know! I wasn't expecting them to update this soon, but it's a relief to have that part done. It would be awful to be accepted into the nursing program only to find out that there was an issue with the University enrollment.
18. Hi Everyone, Just an FYI-I just went to the Sac State student portal to check admissions status and my status has been changed to admitted. Obviously that has nothing to do with the nursing program, but fellow transfer students might want to go ahead and check their status with the school.
19. Since you are a current Sac State student I'm not sure how that would work. I would assume that you would need to write the course from the college that you took the class and include the original transcripts. They would need to look the course up and make sure that it satisfies the requirements for the nursing program. For example, an online anatomy class may transfer to the university, but the nursing program will not accept it because it did not include an in-person lab component. I believe you can send an email to get clarification on this. They are also having an info session today. If you are able to attend they will be able to tell you exactly what you need to do.
20. I did better on the practice exams as well. When I took the actual TEAS I found that the online practice exam was very similar to the actual test. However, I scored much better on the TEAS. I believe I was averaging 79% on the online practice exam and I ended up getting an 88% on the TEAS. Also-I know I could have done better on the TEAS if I didn't rush through parts of it. The best tip I can give is to be aware of your time, but don't rush yourself. Getting just one or two questions wrong due to rushing can make a huge difference in your overall score so don't overlook anything. Good luck!!
21. Good luck with your stats! I know what you mean about feeling like you will miss some crucial component. Someone gave me some great advice-make a copy of you application before turning it in. Although that should be one of those obvious things, it is also one of those things that one may overlook. Having a copy on-hand whenever you start to question whether or not you filled in a box correctly can save you from a lot of anxiety. We are just a few days away from the application period! I'm sure you will be just fine, but good luck!
22. Hi Zygo! That's great that you will have 89 points! I was feeling pretty good with my 80 but now I'm starting to feel a little unsure. I am considering taking the TEAS to try to get a higher score. I got an 88% the last time but I also rushed out of fear of running out of time. I ended up making simple mistakes that I know I could have avoided. I guess I have a few days to decide. If I decide to just apply with my current score I will probably deliver my application sometime this week. Anyway, good luck! Hopefully we all make it!
23. Have you actually looked into the requirements for both the community colleges and CSU's? What are your grades for statistics, English, and public speaking? If you received A's in those courses and you have a high TEAS score you have a good shot at getting into a CSU. Not all CSU's look at our overall GPA-some only consider those 8 core pre-req's and any co-req's that you have completed. However, if your nursing GPA and/or TEAS is a little lower you can still get into the community colleges.
24. Hello! There is another thread for the CSUS spring, 2016 cohort. Here is the link: https://www.google.com/url?q=https://allnurses.com/california-nursing/sacramento-state-spring-995532.html&sa=U&ved=0CAQQFjAAahUKEwj8gfDzt6zHAhVUMogKHXbxA38&client=internal-uds-cse&usg=AFQjCNFUNpPuXO9mGbnajMZpvUVaH__7VA It would be great to have a master thread for all of the applicants!
25. Many schools require an in-person lab component to all of the science prereq's. I know of one student who is trying to get into a California University and although the online anatomy class would technically be accepted, the transcript or course description has to indicate that it includes an in-person lab. This student is now in a rush to retake anatomy before the next application period.
