1. Hi 707sciguy! I have to say that although the rejection from SSU was hard, I am so thankful because I was eventually accepted into the nursing program at CSUS, and I think it is a much better fit or me. Good luck with your application!!!
2. I'm in! Can't wait to meet you all and get this journey started. :)
3. jike- Here is the link to the AP credit tests, GE areas and equivalencies: Transfer Admission - Sacramento State Catalog It looks like you should be fine with your score. I wouldn't worry about it.
4. Janechon, Here is a checklist for a previous cohort: http://www.csus.edu/hhs/nrs/programs/undergraduate/traditional/Docs/2013_fall_pre-entry_checklist.pdf It will give you an idea of what needs to be completed before we start..
5. Welcome, janechon! I know how you feel. I was relieved for about 10 minutes after reading the email, then I checked and re-checked my application to make sure I filled everything out correctly. I'm trying not to think about all the "what-if's". I'm sure you will be fine with your points!
6. Check your emails!!! RE: Spring 2016 Admission - IMPORTANT Deadlines Thank you for your patience! We know you are anxiously waiting for your admission decision, and we are working extended hours to bring you news as quickly as possible. In the meantime, we hope the following information will be helpful—please read to the very end! For additional updates on the admission process, please check back on the Traditional BSN homepage, http://www.csus.edu/HHS/nrs/programs/undergraduate/traditional/. Due to human resource limitations, please do not call or email the School of Nursing. Thank you! We received over 290 applications for 80 seats. Based on unverified student-reported data, the applicant ranked number 80 has 79 points—the applicant ranked 120 has 73 points. We anticipate the final cut-score will be lower when we have completed the evaluation and Intent to Enroll process, but we regret it may be higher than previous spring terms, http://www.csus.edu/HHS/nrs/programs/undergraduate/traditional/Docs/app_pool_stat_8-31-15.pdf. Admission decisions will be emailed as follows: Candidates ranked 1-120 will be notified in late November just before registration opens onNovember 30. Candidates ranked 121 or higher, based on student-reported data, will be notified tomorrow, Friday, October 30 after 5 p.m.
7. Honey CLover, I completely agree. As an aside, I have to say that I have no doubt that you will one day be an amazing patient advocate
8. Honestly, my opinion on your original post was based more on the tone rather than your points. The screen name didn't help either. If you have looked at the stats for prior semesters and/or the posts from prior cohorts you would know that it is incredibly rare for someone to qualify for all 12 bonus points, as well as achieve a near-perfect GPA and TEAS score. You were obviously one of those lucky few. Congratulations! I would be excited as well! Since the overall experience was easy for you I can see how it would be hard to empathize with those of us who have spouses and children relying on us to achieve this goal, and making huge sacrifices along the way. The application period is stressful mainly because we have a lot riding on the acceptance and/or denial. So I now understand that maybe it was a general lack of awareness rather than you intentionally trying to be condescending. This forum has provided an amazing opportunity for all of us to support, encourage, and learn from one another, so please don't feel like your thoughts and opinions are not welcome. We will all (hopefully) be classmates soon enough and I'm sure the support and encouragement will prove to be invaluable.:)
9. I also thought that post was very condescending. In fact, I originally thought it was a troll so I just left it alone. To get a score of 102 you would have to have a perfect (or near perfect) GPA, TEAS, and have some of those bonus points. Based on the stats it looks like that is pretty rare. In fact, half of the applicants for this fall were below the alternate cutoff score, so that has to tell you something. As a mother to three young children, wife, and full-time student I have worked incredibly hard to earn my points and I think it's safe to assume that most of the nursing applicants would say the same. I am grateful for the struggle though as it will make the acceptance that much more rewarding :)
10. Looks like they posted an update on the website- "Admission decisions and complete evaluations will be emailed to all applicants after 5:00 p.m. Friday, November 27". Let's hope the next 7 weeks go by fast!
11. I totally understand! I did exactly the same thing. I ended up returning to school after about 8 years and had to fix some of the damage that I did when I was young and completely unfocused. If I were you I would speak with a counselor at your community college to see if they grant repeats for reasons such as significant time lapse, to raise GPA, etc. The official policy at my college is that you cannot repeat any course that you earned a C or higher. However, we can petition to repeat a course for the reasons that I just gave. The counselor approved the repeats and I just repeated the classes that I previously earned B's in (which happen to be English, critical thinking, and chemistry). You may be able to get into a late-start English class this fall then take critical thinking and anatomy in the spring. You can have one science and one non-science in-progress when you apply, so if you managed to get those classes in the order that I mentioned you can apply with a 4.0 for their fall 2016 semester. Good luck!!
12. Have you looked at CSUS? They do not count your overall GPA. They give points for your nursing GPA and TEAS score with bonus points for things like foreign language proficiency, volunteer or work experience, and economic status. Here is the link to their selection criteria: http://www.csus.edu/HHS/nrs/programs/undergraduate/traditional/Docs/selection_criteria_8-31-15.pdf. If you can, I would suggest taking anatomy over. You can take it the semester that you are applying and us "in-progress" for the grade. If you have no other B's in your prereq's then your application GPA would be a 4.0. With that GPA and your TEAS score you should have no problem being accepted.
13. I wouldn't worry about it. I applied on the first day of the application period and I had my transcripts send right away. I'm sure your status will change by the 1st.
14. Yes, you can take it in two weeks. Just be aware that some schools require that you have a certain amount of time between attempts and other schools will only take your first or second attempts. This is just something to consider if you plan on applying to multiple schools for the Spring semester or for future semesters. I personally think you have a great chance at improving your score. Now that you know what to expect you can really focus on your weak areas. A lot of people that I have talked to have done better on second and third attempts. Good luck!!
15. Yes! Click on "Student Center", then click on "Main Menu" at the top of the screen. You should see "Student Admissions", click on that. Then click "Sac State Admissions" and "Self Service App Status". It should tell you whether you have been accepted or if it is still pending. :)
