Negative Feedback from GN Interview - HELP!!!
Well, I went in my interview today! I appreciate all of the advice and what all of you said definitely made sense! In a business interview you really are trying to sell yourself, your skills, and show that you not only want the job, but will be the best. After reading all of your comments I completely tried to change the way I interviewed. I focused much more on the patients, teamwork, and my desire to make an impact and help people. I really reviewed all of the comments here, but honestly tried not to "reheorifice" the right answers to other questions. I was just much more "me" in this interview. The director seemed to really respond and I even got several "good answer" comments! I also interviewed with 2 of the staff nurses and they seemed to like me as well. I won't know for a couple of days if I got the job, but even if I didn't I am looking forward to the feedback I get. Although nursing school is a learning process, for me, this has been a learning process too. I'll update everyone and let you know what I find out! Thank you all again so much for your help!!! If anyone else has any additional advice, please post it! I know I still have things to learn on this subject and different opinions and suggestions are certainly helpful!

new grad nurse moving to houston tx
I believe that Hermann will have a Jan GN program and that they accept applications for ADN's, but I have a few friends that currently work there and told me that it is hard to get into their internship with no previous experience without a BSN, so I'm not sure, but it's worth applying. As the pp stated, I would continue sending out your résumé and replying to job postings, then follow up with the recruiters. As far as the interviews I have had, I have gotten calls or emails in response to the application I submitted online for the GN residencies.

new grad nurse moving to houston tx
Here in Houston it really depends on if you have your BSN or ADN. Most major systems (Methodist, St. Luke's, MDA, TCH, Harris Health) all require a BSN. Hermann still had "BSN preferred" on an application I saw for one of the satellite campuses, but TMC campus requires a BSN as well as the one in The Woodlands, although I was told by a nursing director about The Woodlands requirement, I haven't seen it for myself yet. There are very few hospitals that will accept a new grad ADN now since they are all magnet or trying to achieve magnet status. Right now you are also in between application periods. There are still a few postings for GN positions, but all the hospitals should be opening up the applications for the January GN residencies soon. It's still pretty competitive out there though, so be prepared with a plan just in case you don't land one of the slots right off the bat. I'm still interviewing for a couple of positions that start in October. If they don't work out then ill be in the January pool as well!

Negative Feedback from GN Interview - HELP!!!
I am a new grad and have gone on several interviews without receiving an offer. Nursjng is a second career for me and previously I was in a corporate environment. I was in a senior level position but hated my career. I finally had the opportunity to go back to school and get my BSN and was so excited to finally graduate. In the past, I have always interviewed well. The only reason I know this is bc I was offered basically every job I ever applied for and got great feedback from the people that interviewed me. Things are different now!!! I received feedback (thank goodness) from the HR recruiter regarding my last interview. He said that based on my background he could tell that I interview like a person coming from that business sector. He said that although the hiring manager really liked me that I was assertive, but too assertive. He said that I have to remember that this is healthcare and managers are looking for different things then corporate world. He then told me that although i was probably just trying to let them know that i was definitely interested and excited about the opportunity that it just didn't come off right. He also said that he knows I'm an excellent candidate and he really wants to get me hired on into their GN program, so he set me up for an interview with another unit. I'm honestly not sure what to do! I went over interview questions and found that most of the ones I was asked I was able to answer. Maybe I answered too quickly? Would that come across as over confidence or assertive? When asked what I wanted to be doing in 5 years I explained that I would like to have completed a FNP program but still be working at the bedside. Is that too definitive? Any advice would be great!!! I really want to do well in this next interview!!!

Tele Unit to ER?
I am a new grad and just got a job on a Med Surg Telemetry Unit. It is at a major cardiac hospital and most if the patients come from the CVICU, so some are pretty acute. I know that it will be a great experience, especially since I will get a great deal of practice reading strips. Ideally, I would love to get an ER after this. Would experience in this unit provide me with a good shot at getting a job in the ER after a year? I know some people use it as a stepping stone to the ICU, but what about the ER?

Harris Health System GN Internship (Ben Taub/LBJ)
I interviewed with L&D and MICU. I guess if she is coming back tomorrow then hopefully everyone will hear something then.

Harris Health System GN Internship (Ben Taub/LBJ)
I know some people have heard back and received offers. I'm not discouraged yet though because I called and talked to HR on Friday and they said that although all selections have been made, they haven't called everyone yet. She said that they hope to finish making calls tomorrow. Which unit did you interview for?

Enforcement Review TX BON
I only posted earlier today, but I wanted to give an update...I got my ATT!!! My file had only been in the operations dept for review of my declaratory order since last Monday! I called yesterday and there were no updates, but this evening I got my ATT! I'm so relieved! I just wanted to let people know that for some the process can go quickly.

Enforcement Review TX BON
So, I graduated in May. When I sent in my paper application I disclosed a charge of criminal trespassing that was dismissed, along with all court documents. Since on the BON website it stated that I didn't have to disclose traffic violations, I did not disclose that a little over a year ago I was arrested for failure to appear during a traffic stop on a ticket for expired registration. All charges, including the failure to appear we're dismissed. I honestly didn't even know the ticket was outstanding since my ex-husband said he took care of it when it happened. Well, I got a letter stating that I needed to submit a Decleratory Order bc it came up on my background check. I did that and of course was told it can take 45 days. I explained in my letter that I didn't disclose it bc I didn't know that I needed to and thoroughly explained the situation. Now, I landed a dream internship that starts in October. My questions are: 1. Has anyone had it take less than 45 days to get an answer? 2. How likely is it that I will be sent through the enforcement process? 3. Does anyone think there is any hope of me being able to start a job in October? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

FNP syllabuses and book names
I don't have the info you are looking for right now, but a friend of mine will be starting the program at Chamberlain in September. She is going to send me the info. When I have it I could pass it on if you would like.

Question for Lonestar RN graduates...
Methodist has changed it's requirements from what I was told by the director of nursing recruitment/education. Willowbrook is trying to obtain Magnet status, just as most hospitals are and will not hire someone without a BSN. All of the new grad internships are requiring a BSN. I know some people who have graduated with an ADN and have looked for jobs for 6 months +. My advice would be to finish your prerequisites and then go to a BSN program. It takes the same amount if time to complete and you will have a much better shot at getting a job. While you are in school apply for an externship position at Methodist or MDA. Then you are guaranteed a job when you graduate. If you don't get one of those positions then apply as a PCA. That will help as well. Even if all of your prerequisites aren't completed, apply to a program that allows you to finish them along with your nursing classes, like Chamberlain. They have a BSN program that only takes 3 years without any prerequisites completed. If you have some of them finished it won't even take that long.
