  1. I'd say it depends on where you work, IMO. I personally love the classic, royal blue scrubs...I don't know why but that color just seems the most serious and professional to me in healthcare. Obviously in a peds setting or maybe LTC, it would be more appropriate to wear more fun designs and colors. That's just me though! :)
  2. I just finished my clinicals this semester (in the LPN program). You are right, it's very tiring and while it's alright, I'm starting to think more and more that I'd rather work In a clinic setting. I've been planning to go from LPN to RN, but now I'm thinking I'd rather stay an LPN when I graduate.
  3. This is my second day of nursing school, and I did a 5-point syllabus quiz. It's obviously not that much but I ended up getting two out of five wrong, and I feel like a total idiot I couldn't even pass a simple syllabus quiz. I read the syllabus very thoroughly like twice and there was this trick question I couldn't even find in the syllabus. I feel really bad about this and my teachers stressed about how a point or two matters a lot and my grade is already off to bad start. I'm just wondering if I'm making this to be a bigger deal than it should be or what. Now I'm more worried about not making it especially when I can't even do a simple manual blood pressure...I couldn't hear a thing, and yes my stethescope was on right.
  4. I had bought an Adscope stethoscope for cheap and I can barely hear anything out of it. I'm going to return it and buying a lightweight Littman instead...just wondering how well the lightweight one is compared to the classic scope for nursing school?
  5. I asked my advisor if I could get the blood test and she says they won't accept it and that it needs to be PPD.
  6. My school only requires PPD unfortunately...no blood test for me.
  7. Well I went in and asked about it and she said she was not aware of the MMR interfering with the TB test.... So she gave it to me anyway. I hope the school doesn't put up a fit.
  8. @ farawyn - I read in a few places mono can interfere with test results. @ blondenurse12 - does it matter in what order you would get them on the same day?
  9. I'll find out what they have to say tomorrow....I also had mono about a month ago as well, I've heard this can be an issue as well.
  10. I have no local health department that hands out cheap vaccines
  11. I am just the type of person who likes things getting done early and I get ancy if it's a tight squeeze. Anyway I think the two step mantoux is required. Am I getting this right, you have to wait a week after the second test is read to get the MMR? Can't I just get it right away?
  12. I did more research and I'm finding the same information. I'll still go in and ask, fingers crossed its not a major issue.
  13. I just got accepted into nursing school and I need to get my MMR shots and Tdap as well as a two- step mantoux done before December 23rd. I scheduled to have my mantoux done tomorrow morning but I went into my local pharmacy and had my first MMR shot today. I just read somewhere you have to wait to get tested 28 days after you had the MMR shot :/ I had no idea about this... Anyway my question is, am I absolutely required to wait 28 days? Im just really struggling to get everything done in time...
  14. Just wanted to let you guys know I just got accepted into the LPN program! So happy and excited :)
  15. At the nursing home that I used to work at, it was every other Saturday and Sunday. I was a CNA, but the nurses had the same weekend schedules as the CNAs.

I didn't think it was that bad, but I'm also pretty good at reading. The biggest advice I can give is go over the problem and answers very carefully. Make sure you don't spend too much time on one problem, and don't constantly look at how much time you have left. If you're unsure about an answer, just use your best guess. Usually, you are able to use power of elimination and reduce the possible answers from 4 to 2 and then 1.

I just took it this past week. What's your question??
  18. I'm unable to re-take it unless I need to apply the next semester. So it's as good as it will get. Hopefully there will be no need to wait for the next semester
  19. How much do schools look at your GPA? I've been able to maintain 4.0 GPA so I would imagine that would be in my favor as well.
  20. Well I ended up getting a 68.7% and I can't retake again right now. I looked over the average acceptance score from the past few semesters and it was about 68% and the program average is 58%. Is this still bad considering the circumstances? I'm also going for LPN if it makes any difference.
  21. I'm taking the TEAS exam tomorrow and I haven't studied a lot (been really busy with other classes), but I've gone through the ATI study guide and have done the practice tests. My first try was an average of 78% and my second try was 74%. My school accepts the highest scoring applicants (no minimum score). I did look at the school statistics and the average scores of accepted applicants ranged from 68% to 73%. I have two questions: 1) would I have a good chance of getting accepted if I ended up with a score in the 70s range? 2) is the actual test a lot like the practice tests (easier or harder) in the ATI study guide book? Thanks in advance!
  22. In my area, LPNs are in demand in the LTC, hospice, and home health but there are also positions in the hospitals (some units don't use them, but med-surg, neuroscience, and family birthing still hire). Also I see plenty of LPN's working in clinics yet. Whenever I go into different clinics, I rarely see a MA, but an LPN.
  23. Please take my advice and do NOT take more than a few science classes in one semester. Actually, better yet, only take one if you can. You also can't take A&P II without taking A&P I first (at least this is how it works at most schools). You will also save more money in the long run.
  24. Hi guys, So I'll be taking my TEAS exam soon, and my school is offering TEAS prep classes for science, math, reading, and English. Each class is like $55. I haven't been able to study much because I've been busy with summer classes and work. I'm just wondering if you think it's worth taking these classes? I think I should at least take the math and science ones since I haven't really studied much and my reading and English skills have always been better. I'm just wondering if you guys think its worth the money? And should I take all the classes?
  25. I'm not a nurse yet, but I worked as a nursing assistant for a year...I've had many incidents of residents trying to choke me, bite me, hit me, cuss my eardrums out, making sexual remarks and gestures at me, and coming in contact with bodily fluid is inevitable...obviously wear gloves, but stuff happens. I remember one time I was feeding a resident with dementia but they had been pocketing which I didn't realize and then they sneezed and spit and food flew everywhere. Sometimes it's just inevitable, lol.
