When did it become OK to treat your nurse like poo?
How about aides treating you like poo too and you being told not to make them mad? Especially you are doing all their work for them. I don't mind helping but when they continue to hide, go out and smoke, extra? How is that fair when I have to pass meds, do TX's bandage changes etc?

Stethoscope for School
I had a Littman and they only have a 2 year warranty. I now have an MDF, they have a lifetime warranty. I prefer that over a Littman, better acoustic's to me.

Any older students?
I am 46. Just graduated in Oct and passed my boards 1st time. I am now working my second week and I carry my "brain" around with me. I write down treatments to done, blood glucose, and when someone wants a prn med, I write by their name. You all sound like we are 85 years old!! I am working with another new nurse and she is in her 60's. It can be done, and you are only old if you make yourself think like that.

I don't know if I should be a nurse
Gossiping coworkers are in any profession whether It's nursing or accounting. Best time to find a job is when you have one. I just hope that since you are a nurse now and you are having these feelings that it does not reflect on your patients care.

New Nursing Job
All I can say is OMG!! I start my first job as a brand new nurse tomorrow!
-
I need some advice please!
I start tomorrow as a new nurse too. I have been reading this book that is called "Your first year as a nurse" it's a good read. Everyone feels overwhelmed as a brand new nurse. You don't learn everything in school that you need to know for the job. The author says that as a new nurse, the feelings that you are having, is normal. As days go by, the feeling will go away. I am holding her too it! Lol. I am nervous as check, I start orientation tomorrow, my first job as a nurse. The hiring nurse knows that I am a new nurse, and seemed very supportive. Good luck, all will be well!

Any specialty type LVN's ?? what's yours?
The only thing is it's hard to get specialized in some of those. I would love to do wound care but they are turning that over to RNs. They want you to be certified but you have to have a years experience to get certified. Frustrating.

HELP. Tips of getting a job when you're an entry level nurse?
Join the club! Same here too! I did actually get an interview an interview and will find out this week. I am up against those who have experience as a nurse, I am fresh out of school. It is for a doctor's office, and I was a medical assistant for 8+ years they are nursing home nurses. Maybe that will help me.

To all my non-hospital nurses
I am an LVN. Just passed my NCLEX a month ago. It's funny how I want to work in a hospital and there are RN's that don't want to. I don't want to do LTC or home health. I want to work in a hospital (some places still hire LVNs), clinic, psych. I know that I am a little older (I was a medical assistant for 8+ years) and got out of the medical field for awhile and did accounting. That was not what I wanted to do, I wanted to be a nurse. I will probably go back for RN, but in the meantime I think that it's hurting me to not do LTC first all my classmates are getting jobs left and right (in LTC) and I was the first to take boards and seems that I am headed to be the last to be employed. Any tips?

Are handguns allowed at work?
Lol so true! Maybe should have thrown it in there amongst the mix!
-
Are handguns allowed at work?
Dang I wish I got this much feedback on a question I had about my resume or being a new nurse!
-
Are handguns allowed at work?
Enough said right there. That right there is enough red flags for me. With that being said, you shouldn't even have to second guess that one or worrying about her losing her job. She sounds like a ticking time bomb. My question to you is, is it allowed to have a handgun in the facility. Bullies and handguns don't mix.
-
Are handguns allowed at work?
Are you anticipating a gun fight fight when you bring your gun to work at the hospital? I a not starting an argument but there is no place that at a medical facility. Just saying.
-
Resume question
Gotcha, thanks!
-
Are handguns allowed at work?
I know that it is useless in the car. But why would you bring it in a hospital? Not a place for a weapon. You have security there and if you are nervous walking out to your car, have them walk you out. I have plenty of times. I am all for gun rights don't get me wrong, but not at a medical facility inside.
-
Are handguns allowed at work?
I wouldn't think that was allowed. Why can't they leave it in their car? Do they have a CHL? I honestly would talk to someone about that, but that's just me.

Someone help:(
Do you have a "brain" that you carry around with you? In other words, a paper, small notebook that you can jot things down what you did for pt's during the day and maybe will help along with charting at the end of the day quicker?

Trying to get a job 6 years after graduating
Wow you are very lucky. I just graduated a month ago and passed my boards 1st time 2 weeks ago and still looking.

Resume question
Here is my deal, I just passed my NCLEX about a week and a half ago. My school did my resume and insisted on putting my accounting experience on there with my medical experience. I was a phlebotomist for about 2 years, before that I did accounting for 11 years. Before my accounting experience I was a medical assistant before that for about 8 years. I just wanted a medical resumes that is separate from an accounting resume and they said too much of a work gap. But, I can explain that without it being on there. Am I wrong to do it this way?
