  1. Am I Competitve enough?

I appreciate the feedback. I still have to take the TEAS and HESI as well, before I apply. I am volunteering on the Close Observation Unit at a local hospital and will probably have about 150 to 200 hours of volunteering done before I apply. I think ...
  2. Am I Competitve enough?

Hi. So I am a pre-nursing student at a Community College and am wondering if my current grades will be competitive enough to get into a program. I will begin to apply to nursing schools in about two more semesters. I know that a lot of students takin...
  3. Best order for science prereqs

I personally like Option #3 the best, due to the fact that its the order I'm doing things. I found that there was pieces of chem sprinkled through A&P1. So its better to have that foundation. In addition, at my university to get to A&P1, taki...
  4. I just wanted to get a general idea of how many schools(programs) other pre-nursing students will apply to. I will be applying out-of-state to eight schools. The majority being in Florida(I'm from CT). Just wondering how many other people would be ap...
  5. Courses you found useful...

I agree with @RunBabyRN language courses are a good way to pick up some words and phrases. Even though nursing pre-reqs are science based, don't forget about the humanities. Public Speaking, World Religions, a specific culture course (arabic language...

A&P 1 w/Lab Elementary Stats w/comp applications General Psychology 1 U.S. History 1 Elementary Spanish 1 I am so excited and nervous, this is my third semester of pre-reqs but my first time taking 17 credit hours in a semester.
  7. I am not in an actual program, but I am taking my pre-reqs. Any laptop or desktop will do the trick. As long as it windows or OS X with a word processing software. I personally find the laptop in the classroom a distraction. If your on a budget there...
  8. Is this a realistic course load?

I'm just wondering if taking these courses is to much for the upcoming semester. Anatomy and Physiology 1 Statistics w/ Computer Applications General Psychology 1 Elementary Spanish 1 U.S. History 1 Should I drop a course, I know that A&P requi...
  9. I am pretty sure it is going to take me 3 or 4 years. In my case I plan on applying to a traditional BSN program. To do so I have to fulfill the university general education requirements, and the school of nursing prerequisite requirements. Since I a...
  10. Is this a realistic course load?

Thanks for the info. I think it's a good idea to attend each class the first week and identify how much will be put on me. If it's too much I will probably drop the stats or u.s. History. I think I signed up for all those classes because I don't want...
  11. Is this a realistic course load?

Yeah I think I agree with everyone above. It does seem doable. The only thing I worry about is my GPA (3.96). I guess I have some thinking to do. But thank you for the feedback.
  12. Advice to prepare for intro chemistry and English 1?

English 1 or Composition 1 is based around a lot of writing. It may be different for you but for me I had to write 4 essays, a bunch of journal entries on a theme for the semester, and in class discussions. At the end of the class we had to submit a ...
  13. This is a question to all the people taking their pre-reqs, already in a nursing program, or graduates. So with programs being so competitive, many students, including myself feel the pressure to maintain an A in all their pre-reqs(especially the sc...
  14. Which specialty would you like to end up in?

  15. Simple Question, What did you use to get the most out of the course? Were you a straight by the book person? Outside resources? Any other tips to come out of the class with an A.
  16. Thanks you everyone. I will keep all this mind!
  17. College Algebra

I am finding it challenging. It really does help to have a professor/instructor who takes their time going over the material.
  18. College Algebra

I'm in College Algebra right now. At my cc it is an extension from Intermediate Algebra, and is basically "pre-calculus". A lot of it had to do with functions and logarithms.
  19. Don't put your email address in a thread!

Thank you for posting this. I knew I couldn't have been the only person who thought that this was unsettling. I cringe sometimes when I see phone numbers and personal email addresses in forums:nailbiting:. I hope more people see this, and make some s...
  20. Training for EMT while going to Nursing School

Congrats on your decision. Community colleges, hospitals and certain cities offer EMT-B programs in the summer, fall, and spring. Usually the training goes for 8-12 weeks; that contains the lecture and ride time. This may give you a little advantage ...
  21. Anyone taken a&p I & a&p II at fscj at the same time?

Just like @LL143KnB said A&P 1 is a pre-req for A&P 2. Usually it is not possible to take them concurrently. The only way it might be possible is you make an appointment with the head of the science department at your CC, and plead to take th...
  22. This is a good question. Im not sure if your going to be registering for your classes next semester on a full-time or part-time basis. But I would also suggest taking one science course, algebra or stats, humanities, and a social science. Remember to...
  23. Are you going to work while in nursing school?

I've heard of plenty of people on this site working during school. I plan on working because I don't have the luxury not too. But if it comes to it, I will take time off to complete my BSN. I think you have to use your judgement and make the decision...
  24. So I made the mistake my first semester of pre-reqs and rented/purchased all my books from my college bookstore. I had no idea they were charging the retail value and higher for textbooks. My spring semester is starting at the end of this January. I ...
  25. Semester Starts Monday...what Do I need

Get some more binders. A binder or at least a 3 subject notebook for each class always helped me with organization. Note cards are a big help to. But all in all, just wait until you get the syllabi from your professors. You can go from there.
