RN needs work in VA w/ disciplinary action
Bon Secours can be terrible. I do understand. Try looking into one of the government agencies. They usually do a much more thorough check which may be in your favor. Also any of the IHS facilities are crying for help, experienced or not.

as a nursing student will I get more out of working in the ICU as a CNA?
I have worked in quite a few states and re; CNA Ill tell you this. In the ICU, much of the time, the CNAas aren't allowed perform a lot of duties. Many times, not even blood sugars. If you are truly looking to expand your skills, Id work as a tech in the ER.

Bon Secours salary & pay differentials
This is a super loaded question as it depends on the facility. I do know if you ask for weekend alternative the pay rate is much higher in most of the Bon Secours facilities. The shift diffs are about 5-6 dollars an hour only for nights. In the Virginia Bon Secours most hiring is handled out of Richmond so Id contact Richmond HR. Also the hospitals in Richmond are nationally ranked.

Workplace Bullying-Nursing or 7th Grade?
I couldn't agree more. I have been a nurse for over 23 years and have seen bullying in many areas. I , too am a nursing instructor but I also still work in the ICU in direct patient care. When I was "birthed" into nursing, bullying did not exist. I was the "baby nurse" with a group of what I would call grandmothers. They were very nurturing and back in those days we had a 12-15 patient assignment on an acute respiratory oncology floor. It was no doubt one of the best and most difficult jobs in my life. I have done an immense amount of research on bullying as well. In the rural settings, bullying is lower and higher NCLEX scores and nursing attrition rates are lower as well. What is it about the "city" or "Urban" environment which makes us this way. I would like to believe that many of us had the same training in ethics and character in nursing school. My training was more in the lines of Christian nursing vs. secular nursing but, I have found, the Christian or Catholic hospitals are the worst when it comes to this. We , as nurses, need to get our act together. Who do we really want taking care of us in our "Golden Years?"

Travel Nurse, Checklist for getting started
I USED TO BE AN EDUCATOR IN ALASKA. if YOU ARE WORKING IN AN AREA WITH HIGHER RATES OF Infectious disease, you may be asked to have a PPD within a month due to high rates of TB in the state. Same is true with some special populations, reservations migrant workers, etc.

Questions about travel nursing
I truly believe some nurses are built for travel and some not. I have been a nurse for over 20 year and I love to change my routine so much that I change jobs about every 2-3 years. I love to get floated and I realize many are not that way. Most staff nurses get comfortable in their own environment.

Already make $42/hr. Is travel nursing worth it?
Something else you really want to consider is: Does your agency pay for housing for all 4 of you or just one. I worked in Alaska and trained a plethora of travel nurses from everywhere. The cost of living in AK was a lot for just one, and I cannot even imagine what it is for a family of 4. I homeschooled my kids when they were young and that is an issue as well. However, to see the world and spend quality time with your family . Well, there isn't a price for that, is there?
