I am a diploma RN from many moons ago.....I did college courses AT my nursing school, all my nursing courses were at the same school I took...Eng 1 and 2. Psych 1 and 2, Micro, socialogy, etc.....so am I closer to being an ADN due to that or just a Diploma Nurse?

In response for taking care of babies and taking care of old people are not the same thing...I have to disagree......One a man, twice a child......is the saying.....most elderly become babies again when they cannot care for themselves anymore...they have to be fed, bathed, given meds on a spoon, reminded continuously to do certain things, helped being dressed, toileted....so......yes....they return to an Old infantile way of living...and the job is not easy....I am a LTC/sub acute RN for over17 years....although many nurse in other fields may think its a piece of cake........please....dont listen to them. Its a job that you gotta love....just like any other nursing speciality. Good luck.

True, if you are still on speaking terms with this woman ask her if you can use her as a reference...if you worked for her a long time and the interviewer is understanding to the case (if you keep it short and sweet though) I am sure your working relationship and the positive Impact you DID make while working with her and her child will benefit you. Its sounds like the child was progressively getting worse over time....and the Mom was getting more overwhelmed and anxious and starts to dictate instead of listening to anyone or anything because nothing is really helping the child and she cannot face that....She may have to start accepting the fact that her child is not getting well, sometimes this RELIEF brings a welcome moment where you just let a Higher energy take over, sometimes it doesnt....either way, its always a 50 50 chance with healing people and you can just do your very best. It looks like you also have alot on your mind with personal issues....this can subconsciously work into your mind during your work hours.....and may affect your critical thinking......My shortened Opinion.......IF THEY ASK YOU, then tell them....but a much shorter more positive sided looking verson for yourself........dont play yourself down if you know you are good at your job......you are just in a tough spot now.....MOst times they ask...tell me about yourself.....what you have done in the last so and so years........strengths and weaknesses......what would you do in this case scenario......how you deal with co workers in a precarious situation.......are you a good delegator....things like that.....show your strengths more......if they ask about your weaknesses....keep it very short and simple....but answer it completely. I have worked in LTC/ Rehab facilities and have found the real doers and the real do nothings when it comes to Nurse managers and DONS......some painted their nails all day..(how they did this I dont know) but all they did was walk around and LOOK GOOD in that white jacket.......Other DONS/Managers were real workers....they wouldnt be afraid to get their hands dirty. Its a crapshoot......the whole machine has to work synergistically and if one part is malfunctioning, sooner or later the rest of the machine will suffer and break down.

first time I used a computer for charting turned into nightmare at shifts end...computers crashed at the hospital, I sat there for over 2-3 hours trying to remember what I did all day long....had to handwrite everything after that.....technology is very good up to a certain point....then if it crashes You can be screwed.

I am a 17 year veteran of the 3-11 shift......I did everything, Cnas only did patient care....not even vitals....I did meds, admissions, doctors orders, assist the doc if necessary if they came in unnannounced....discharges...enough treatments to as long as my arm...had tobe NEAR the dining room(not actually give out trays) but in ear shot.......bathroom patrol(if aides werent to be found) going to the kitchen for snacks for diabetics if they didnt bring it up......try to get coverage when an aide or Nurse called in...this was especially wonderful when you get a call at 1030 pm for a nurse not coming in at 11pm....accepting meds from the pharmacy( which was located 2 hours away) oh, lots of things....that arent even nursing jobs I did.....ordering outside food for patients....emptying a room when a patient died or was discharged.....shall I keep going????? It was a nightmare at times...and I DID get burned out.....now I have an interview for a DON position in an assisted living place.....at 57 I am thinking ....maybe I shouldnt do this anymore....but its not LTC/sub acute.....if they want me.

ugh, pantyhose .....hate them. give me white socks and pants anyday for nursing...more practical on the floor.

OMG...I think mine is crushed somewhere....since I moved......Nursing caps were just part of the uniform.....it was nice...but not very hygenic and was a germ carrier....not that your uniform isnt...but this is what I heard way back when, that nurses stopped using them because they got dirty and you couldnt wash them and they were just an annoyance, falling off and all.

I have worked in LTC/Sub Acute it seems like forever.....I have been a Charge Nurse and Supervisor. My charge nurse position was Moreso ......never a Nurse manager.....but after over 17 years of experience, I had gotten an interview for a DON position at an Assisted Living facility....... I would like to know some pointers on what they may possibly ask at these interviews...I was told it will be about 3-4 people interviewing me.......what can I expect?

I always wiped the finger to be poked first with alcohol wipe....I would wait for it to dry thoroughly, waving my hand against it to speed it up.but yes, alcohol left in the blood sample will contaminate it and alter the reading......wipe with alcohol first. let dry a bit, poke finger and wipe first drop off with sterile gauze, then get the next drop which should be fine for an accurate reading.
