  1. I went from tele to PICU and will NEVER go back to adults again. It's a whole new world but I've been in PICU for 6 years and love it. Good Luck to you :)
  2. I know she will not be admitted to another nursing program, she's been humiliated in front of her peers and family and has to deal with the shame I'm certain she is feeling. I think she has been punished enough and truely hope she has learned from this.
  3. You do not know that she didn't take the money for the fun of it. You really don't know much about the situation at all. I am offended by your question of her background and ethnicity. As if I'd press charges based on that alone. If you must know she is caucasian, probably of northern European decent. She comes from an intact, middle to upper class family. I don't think she "needed" the money. She certainly never ate off the floor or from the garbage can.
  4. She was 26. Old enough to know better.
  5. Thanks for the update. It's truely unbelievable that he is functioning so well. I'm still trying to wrap MY brain around the fact that his is "sloshing" I do hope he has a positive outcome and that the sloshing goes away soon!
  6. I agree with all of the above posters. I've never heard of this. I'll ask our Neuro surg. what he thinks but am curious as to what happened to your patient. Please give an update :)
  7. Just a quick update... As of December 23, 2010 the student was found guilty of theft under $1500.00. She's been ordered by the Department of Justice to pay $35.00 in court costs and $94.00 in restitution. I hope to receive a check any day now. Thanks again for all of the support and opinions!
  8. I'm not sure if anyone is still following this but here's an update. I gave the student one week to try to make things right. I gave her the opportunity to contact me, she chose not to. The dean requested a meeting with the student via voicemail. The student has not scheduled an apt. with the dean. The disciplinarian also sent a letter with the "code of conduct" and a meeting request. The disciplinarian has not heard from the student. The security officer heard from the students mother. The mother was demanding to know why the security officer was talking to her daughter. At this time the student has not told her family she was expelled from te program. Mom was angry and defensive, yet she didn't have the details. The security officer refused to disclose the details and suggested the mother talk to her daughter. I filed a report with the police. I feel she has not learned from this experience. I believe we all must be held accountable for our actions. The police were very understanding. The officer called the student. The stuudent again confessed. The student continued to tell lies and the officer caught her telling a few. The officer is now angry with the student. She does not appear to be learning much from all of this. The students father then called the police demanding to know why the police were calling his daughter. The student kept telling the officer "I just want this to go away." He told her she should have thought of that earlier. I am at peace with my decision. I was setwing over this for a week and now feel better that it is in the hands of the authorities. I am glad her parents are involved. They may be part of the problem...not sure. The father told the officer he'd pay for his daughter. The officer told the father it's too late for that and that perhaps he shoulld stop bailing his daughter out. This may be why she's in this predicament. I am to expect a letter from the court soon. I may have to make an appearance, or not. It's up to the student. If she turns herself in I may not need to testify. If she does not turn hrself in then there will be a warrant out for her arrest. The officer is not playing around. You really should not lie to an officer....they do NOT like that! Either way she will be held accountable for her actions. I sincerely hope she learns from this and gets the help she needs. Thanks for all of the replies and discussion. It has helped!

  10. Don't stress over the math. Statistics is just reading comprehension. Figure out what they are asking and apply the formula. That's what my math minded brother told me and it helped! Hope it helps you :)
  11. My mothers favorite doll was Raggeddy Ann and she's why I went into nursing. My first year nursing I felt pretty beat up...let's just say cardiac step-down was NOT for me. RaggedyRN is a play on the doll name and how I felt that first year...pretty raggedy:)....any first years reading this....it does get better :) Hang in there! Ohhh and her best friend gave me this porceline figurine in my avitar picture when I graduated
  12. This exactly. I'd like to know why, but am hesitant to call her myself because now I am angry. She told security she would call me and has not The dean left a voice mail for her last Thursday night and the disciplinarian sent a "code of conduct" letter to her. As of this afternoon no one has heard from her. She is supposed to call and schedule an apt. with the dean. I'd really like to know what she has to say for herself but am afraid to call her as she may twist my reasoning for calling as an attempt to get my money back or threaten her with the police. I think I may be better off just letting the police do their job. I've been patient and have given her ample opportunity to contact either myself or the college. Shame on her!
  13. Yes I'm still reading the opinions. I take issue with the poster who questioned my professionalism for coming to a gossipy site like this for opinions. I came here looking for support which I have always received in the past. I am waiting until Monday to file a report. I am married to a lawyer and am well prepared about what to expect.... Small claims court and restitution. He is against filing charges because it will take alot of my time and it's not worth the small amount of money taken. I'll press charges so she will have a record and perhaps be prevented from applying to another nursing school. This particular student failed out of her first program, which was a BSN program. She entered this ADN program as a second year student. I instruct their pediatric rotation. I get a new group of 4-5 students every 2 weeks. I just met this student last week. I know nothing of hercacademic abilities. I only know what she has shown me during clinicals. Her own peers had come to me during the investigation and expressed their concerns about her potentially copying another students paper. In their words they think she's a pathological liar. I know this woman needs psychiatric help, not criminal prosecution. Unfortunately our society does not help the mentally ill. She certainly committed a crime, but why? What else is going on in this womans life? I have been thinking about this since Thursday. I am not angry and vengeful. I'm concerned about her and the people in her path. I'm praying that if the police get involved that her family will clue in that she has issues they need to help her with. This is a 26 year old woman. I can't just call her parents as if she were a minor. I'm tryin to look at all of the possible outcomes and which would truly benefit the student and society...it's not been an easy time and I do appreciate all of your opinions!
  14. As soon as the security oficer had a confession he called the housekeeper and apologized profusely. The first thing I did, after seeing the tapes and suspecting the student , was return to the floor and assure the staff that there were a few suspects and to not jump to conclusions. I told them they might be sorry for pointing fingers without evidence. When I returned the following morning I made an announcement that we only have three students today as one of them had been expelled due to the theft. Hopefully the housekeepers reputation can be salvaged. I know I plan on buying her lunch and bring a small gift with me on Monday. I don't plan on filing a report over the weekend...the police are busy enough and the security officer that heard her confession is off until Monday. I do plan on making a report on Monday when I have access to the tapes and the security officer. Thanks again for all of the input..I do hate being in this position:eek:
  15. Thanks for the replies! Seems to be almost unanamous. Only one person suggested talking to her. I was leaving it up to the Dean to tell her about the expulsion. I was also waiting to see if the hospital was going to press charges. The hospital just wants her out of the program and she is no longer welcome in the hospital. (It's a children's hospital...no chance of this 26 year old woman needing this hospitals services.) I did not report it immediately because I was giving her the opportunity to make this right. The security officer is someone I work with. He tried to convince this woman to do the right thing. She told him she would call me to apologize and to make arrangements to return the money. I have not heard from her yet. I am giving her until Monday then will contact the police. Why didn't I report this immediately? I thought she and I were both victims and was letting the hospital handle the investigation...it's their cameras..... I also work at this facility....it was awkward to know that potentially it could be one of my co-workers. Then it was embarrassing to find out it was one of my students. Also, I still had three other students and their patient assignments to oversee. It was one heck of a clinical day:uhoh3: My husband thinks I should just let it go. He thinks she is being punished enough by being kicked out of the program. I have turned to you all to see if I am being too hard or if my husband is just a softee. I am for reporting her and it's brought me some peace knowing others feel as I do. Thank you!
  16. I noticed $20.00 missing from my wallet last week. This Thursday I owed money to a co-worker (She makes American Girl Doll clothes) and there was a book fair at work. On Thursday morning I stopped at the ATM before clinicals. I knew I was taking a chance by having the $94.00 in my wallet (spent 6 on coffees and fruit cup. breakfast of champions! ) This week I chose to put our belongings in a more secure breakroom. No lockers for students but a room that clearly says staff only. When the student came back from MRI she went right to the breakroom. 15 minutes later she came to me and asked where did you put my things? I put her bookbag in the breakroom as her patient was going off to MRI right as the students arrived.. Given that I was missing money from the week before I checked my wallet when I showed the student where her belongings were. My money wasa gone. I had the students check theeir belongings and this one student claimed her credit card was missing. I had no choice but to notify security. They came and interviewed us then informed us they's check the security camera tapes, and that it really helps that we know that it happened in a 2 hour window. Ony a housekeeper and the student were in the room. The housekeeper was questioned and sent home pending the investigation. My student let them send an innocent woman home! Security had me watch the tapes. I noticed the student went into the room and spent 6 minutes in there before comeing to get me to ask where her things were. Later on the tape you see me showing her where her items are. She claimed to have cancelled her sredit card. Security checked...no cancelled card. Security caled the student at home and got a confession. Student expelled. Meeting with the dean pending to formalize. It's now up to me to decide if I want to press chartges or not. It's not about the money. I don't want her to be able to get into another nursing program. I'm thinking that by pressing charges she'd have it on her record...maybe preventing her from being able to do clinicals. The most distressing part about all of this is that she diverted from patient care. Her patient is in renal failure with uncontrolled HTN and needed his BP meds. Her priority was not to administer meds...it was to steal:mad::mad:And she watched an innocent woman take the blame:mad::mad: I guess I am a little mad...I'm waiting to see if I hear from the Dean tahat she intends to return the money with the other items she owes the school. I'm giving it until Monday....any opinions are appreciated/ Thanks!
  17. Would you press criminal charges if one of your students took money from your wallet? The student has been expelled from the program but has not returned the money If I press charges theres a chance I could get my money back and hopefully she would be prevented from applying to another nursing school... Just looking for opinions. Thanks!

OK...I'm ready to begin studying for the CCRN. Any suggestions for study guides? I have purchased The Core Curriculum 2nd edition but have yet to begin studying. Anyone use the AACN's DVD's or CD's? Are they worth the investment? Anyone know of any question/answer (with rationale) computer discs for peds? Thanks in advance for any suggestions, RaggedyRN:)
  20. Hello! I'm thinking of taking the pediatric CCRN. Are the highly recommended DVD's and test review books appropriate for the pediatric CCRN? Has anyone taken the Pediatric CCRN? I was going to order the DVD's but want a little more info before I invest. Thanks for the inspiration and the information RaggedyRN:redpinkhe

  22. Yes, Calcium Chloride was stocked in Calcium Bicarb drawer. Caught the switch in time. The pyxis is only as foolproof as the people who stock the pyxis.
  23. What happens in PACU stays in PACU PACU, where it's OK to wake up with strangers Have fun with this! RaggedyRN
