CNA Course
Has anyone ever taken a CNA course that was taught at a nursing home instead of in the traditional classroom?? The class is taught by a teacher from a technical school. I signed up for a class next month and just wanted to know what to expect?? Michele

Hard Decisions to Make....
Hello, I have been coming to this website for the last year and a half. I was on the waiting listing for the LPN program in my area (FL) for over a year and a half. I finally got my seat in January 2006. After starting nursing school I found out from my mother's husband that she was being moved from the hospital to hospice. I was in total shock, my family knew how bad I wanted to get into nursing school and kept the fact that my mother was so sick. After learning that my mother was going to hospice, I decided to withdraw from the program. I knew my mother would be alone and didnt want her to die without someone being by her side. When I withdrew from from the LPN program I assumed I would be by my mother's side for a few months. Those few months ended up being 2 weeks. My mother's illness took her pretty fast. I have been in total shock about my mother's death and have just not wanted to think about anything else. It is now time to reapply for the nursing program again. I have been going back and forth as to what to do. In my heart I know I want more than anything to be a nurse. But then on the other hand I am so afraid and not sure what to do. I don't want to pass up my chance to reapply to the program..

Juggling family and school
You start school this Monday? What made you finally decide to go with that school ? What hours will you be attending? How long is your program?

Anyone attending or graduated from HCC??
I have been attending HCC and will be applying for the nursing program in the future. I was told by the student advisors that they only accept 200 students for the basic program and 100 for the LPN transitional program. I too thought there was a waiting list but there isn't it is just very competive on getting into one of these programs. Good Luck!

lpn programs????
I have been debating about taking a CNA course. I am on the backup list for LPN school and should start in January but I assume that if I took a CNA course now it would help me when going through LPN school. Does anyone have any advise?

No money for school, sorry it's long..
How did you find a nursing home that offered a free CNA class?

Should I get an LPN degree as a way to get an RN degree?
Thanks for the words of encouragement. Lately I have been discouraged because of the wait and having too much time to think about if I am doing the right thing and if I can do it..blah blah..blah All this second guessing and I havent even started the program. I have not heard anything more from the school. I assume that she is working on the October class now since its the middle of Sept. I am not sure if you choose first available class or day only.

Did you start your CNA class? How is it going?

Should I get an LPN degree as a way to get an RN degree?
If you are in Polk County there are two technical schools that offer the LPN program. One is Ridge Tech.(between Winter Haven and Haines City) and Travis Tech.(Lakeland) Polk Community College also offers the RN program as well.

CNA class
That is what I am thinking, that if I do this that I can only gain experience from taking the CNA course. My family seems to think this is a step out of the way to becoming a LPN.

CNA class
I am currently on the backup list for the LPN program. I should be starting in the January class. In the mean time I am considering taking a CNA course so I can get some hands on experience. I currently have a full time job BUT I am so anxious about starting nursing school that I think this may be a good start. My dilemma is that I don't know if I am wasting my time or money taking this course. Has anyone gone this route and actually enjoyed it? I would appreciate any advice or comments

Quit my job. CNA Yes or No?
You mentioned about looking into a Psych Tech? where would you find such jobs? I too would like to gain any kind of clinical experience I can.

Quit my job. CNA Yes or No?
I am right behind you on the waiting list for January. I have been looking for something to do part time in the medical field while going and while waiting to get into school. I had thought about taking the CNA class that starts in October until I called the nursing counselor and she suggested that I wait for my seat in the nursing class so I wouldnt miss out on anything with my group. She said when you take the CNA course ahead of time, you get to opt out that part of the LPN course but miss out on some of the lectures and class time. So I am patiently waiting but getting very anxious.

I am obsessed
Have you heard anything from the school? Did you already take the CNA course?
-
I am obsessed
This might be a really dumb question but how are you able to get in a BSN program without already being a nurse? Once you finish the BSN program are you a RN? What schools offer this?
-
Can't find a job! What do you reccomend?
If you don't mind me asking, what school did you graduate from?

Future LPN in Florida
I have heard from several people that Erwin is a very good school. Did you have a chance to meet with the instructors when they had open house? I was given alot of information when I went. I have discovered that going to LPN school first is the only way of getting into the RN transitional program at HCC. There is a waiting list that is atleast 2 - 3 years for the basic RN program. It seems your chances are better if you are an LPN and can go the transitional route. Are there no vacational schools in St. Pete? seems like such a long drive for you to come to Tampa. Please keep us posted as to what class you get into.
