Standing up to my charge nurse prevented a mistake
If this is true, it seems sloppy to me that a physician would somehow not know what they were signing too. If they're signing an automated form, I would think they should be very familiar to it to prevent instances such as this.

Unbinding books?
I am strongly considering this too, but as ebailey1218 suggests, I'm going to wait until the first week of classes or so and see how manageable it is to just bring the texts along, or if that will even be necessary.

Best backpack? Not rolling!
Me too! I think mine is by BlackHawk though. I plan to trade off between my huge leather Banana Republic tote, my VeraBradley tote, and the pack. The whole rolling bag thing is definitely NOT for me!!!

DO NOT pass on the poop

Standing up to my charge nurse prevented a mistake
This whole discussion is interesting and enlightening. I'd just like to share that as a Vet Tech I draw with 22 and 25g needles regularly when taking blood from cats and kittens (TEENY veins!!) and as you say, you have to be gentle, and it takes some technique, but it is VERY much possible to get a usable/reliable sample even from those bitty veins, via catheters as well. Could one not flush the line after with heparinized saline to preserve patency? As an almost-nursing-student I'm unsure if this is how things work in the human world, but it makes sense to me... This change from LVT to nurse is going to be an interesting transition for me!

Helpful websites for content/review...and a pep talk :)

"Fake" or Nonprescriptive Eyeglasses
OCRN63 I see that my post upset you; let me try to explain my viewpoint a bit. To me, your "smartness" or intelligence should be demonstrated by your capabilities, not whether you wear glasses... real or fake... or by any other physical characteristic. This apparently is more of a tender spot for me than I realized, as I had a rather strong reaction to the OP, which is pretty unusual for me All my life I have been judged by the fact that I am blonde -- not dyed blonde, REAL blonde, which in many people's minds makes me automatically (a) dumb/flighty/space cadet or (b) successful because of my looks. Yes, really. Instead of dying my hair brown (for example) to try to influence someone's first impression of me, I have chosen to just OWN who I am and hope that when people get to know me they will see me as the intelligent, successful, skilled individual that I am. The idea of someone intentionally wearing fake glasses BECAUSE PEOPLE THINK HE'S SMARTER with them on bothers me, and yes I think it's a stupid thing to do. That being said, I would not treat someone wearing fake glasses, or nails, or dyed hair any differently... what you choose to do is your business, not mine, and and at the end of the day, as long as you do your job well and are a nice person do and wear what you like.

"Fake" or Nonprescriptive Eyeglasses
Fake braces are all the rage in Japan... don't believe me? look it up!! As someone who can't see without her glasses or contacts, this whole idea is just ludicrous. Wear eye protection when you need it, lose the fake glasses if they are truly fake; you might "look" smart, but when people find out they're fake they'll just think you're DUMB.

University of Rochester - ABPNN Fall 2013
I got off the waitlist July 10th -- very pleased, but also feeling a bit panicked about getting everything done!! I HATE being or feeling unprepared... I think there is a possibility of being accepted off the waitlist all the way into the end of August!! I would suggest making sure your MMR and Tetorifice are up to date and that you get a physical done :) Good luck!

College OR WIDE RULED PAPER?
I am soo picky about this: college ruled ONLY, white legal pads ONLY ... I HATE loose-leaf and can't stand the rings on spirals, so there you go. :)

Got Accepted to Nursing School and Prestige Factor
I doubt most people have any idea how hard it is to get into nursing school... also I don't know what type of program you got into, but "nursing school" is a broad term covering everything from LPN associates program to an accelerated bsn... Hopefully your motivation is not too based on how others feel about you going to school/getting in to school!!

First Day of Nursing School
I hear you loud and clear on that one!! The reality of going down to a single income in less than 2 months is starting to set in and it's more than scary. I start an accelerated bsn on 9/3 and don't have any clinical info yet!!

Pathophysiology online?
I took Patho online because I am only interested in 1 specific program and my program waives the lab component, also I was improving a very old grade. I liked taking it online and it was easy for me because this was technically my 3rd time taking it -- took human phys in college for my BS then took animal a+p for my Vet Tech license so this last round was a breeze... HOWEVER I would be absolutely sure that any programs you are applying to do not require a lab component, as I doubt an online course would provide one... just a suggestion. :) Also, as Jenniferasch suggested you might want to consider your experiences so far taking online courses; if you haven't taken any online classes, they are not necessarily easier than in-person courses, but they worked fine for me as I am fairly self-disciplined. Good luck with your decision!

University of Rochester - ABPNN Fall 2013
Hey ladies/everyone! Congrats on all the acceptances!! For those of us who are waitlisted **gnashing of teeth.....** would someone who has gotten their acceptance packet be so kind as to post what vaccinations are required? I want to get rolling on that especially since she-who-cannot-be-named recommended that I do so to be prepared and that's not something I want to guess about!! Thanks!!

University of Rochester - ABPNN Fall 2013
This is interesting, when did you hear this may I ask? I know there are just not enough spots for everyone that is qualified, I'm just hoping that since I submitted my FinAid info just before deadline that might be part of the delay... *sigh*

Confusing shoe restrictions!
- Anyone trying to get fit before NS?
THIS!! THIS THIS THIS!!! I LOVE lifting, espcially OLYs, and it does NOT make you bulky, it makes you fit and strong and capable and sexy!! If it means anything, I am a former ballerina and used to be terrified of the gym, now I love getting a solid workout in and knowing I am investing in my future health. Squats will give you the best... derriere... you've ever had!! Forget the hours on the treadmill, go lift heavy things with the supervision of someone who knows how to train you with good form and you will be stunned by the results!! Also, CrossFit rocks and is a great way to burn calories, get *truly* fit, and find a community of health-minded people. Best of luck to everyone with their individual fitness/health goals!!- University of Rochester - ABPNN Fall 2013
Yayy!! Congrats!! - Anyone trying to get fit before NS?
