  1. Hi coconoir1908, The part time program begins in Summer 2014. Not sure of the turn around time. Good luck!
  2. Hi Duke1158, I was accepted to the Access Program as well. I have a few more prerequisites to finish before starting the nursing classes next fall. Maybe we will be in a few classes together. Do you know where the clinicals are held? Thanks
  3. How long did it take before you heard from them? When I called, they indicated that it would take 1-2 weeks after they received everything, but have not heard. Just curious.
  4. There is also an Accelerated BSN through Thomas Edison State College. It is 12 months and starts in Fall 2014.
  5. I just applied to a few schools and I called them all to make sure they received all the information. You never know, right??
  6. I applied to Neumann a few weeks ago as a transfer student as well. How long did it take before you heard back from them. Just curious. Thanks :)
  7. You could always try volunteering at a hospital. Once you are there, maybe you can network, meet other nurses, etc. Also, it is not just nursing, it is every field. Companies are just not hiring in the droves that they were before. I was laid off at the end of 2010 and was unable to find anything until Jan 2012 (a full year later). I found my job by networking. Additionally, I know several current college graduates who were unable to find work and instead, went back to graduate school. In this case, maybe start studying for a BSN?? Hang in there and it will get better! :)
  8. I am planning to do the same thing. I want to get my ADN and then bridge to BSN/MSN with a specialty in Midwifery. As for your specialty, is there something that you prefer? I spoke to someone recently and she said that once you do your clinicals, you may find one area more interesting than another. Once you find what area you like, determining the specialty may be easier. Good luck.
  9. You could always make bi-weekly payments towards your loan. I think you need to check with your loan provider, but basically it comes down to paying the loan off faster (almost a year earlier or so). For example, you pay $300 month towards your loan for a total of $3600 for (12) months. But if you pay $150 every two weeks, you end up paying $3900 (13) months, so making an extra payment per year. Again, you have to check with your loan provider to see if they will accept a bi-monthly payment. Good luck!
  10. I am taking General Chem with Lab for Health Professionals. So far, so good. If all goes well, I will start in July with A&P1.
  11. I am not good in chem either. I am taking it a little at a time and trying to finding tricks to understand the concepts. I actually do this with my kids too. Find a way to understand it that is easy for you to remember. Good luck! I am taking classes this summer too. :)
  12. Thanks Chuckster. I called and also went in person (with my transcript from an accredited school) and although it seems off, it is their policy. They require potential nursing students to complete all the prerequisites at their school. Unfortunately, with having to repeat the math, english, etc., I will not be done in order to apply for Sept 2014 acceptance. I should have all the sciences completed by May 2014, which gives me some wiggle room to apply for other programs. I am going to look at surrounding CC and see what their policies are (at least it gives me options). Even though, I do not want to incur the debt, right now it seems like the ABSN might be the most viable option. I will try and PM you as well. Thanks again. Thanks.
  13. Thank you so much for the input. I have looked at employment ads and have seen that for the most require the BSN. I have my short list of schools - now just hoping to get in and start next May. Fingers crossed....
  14. Hi. I am getting ready to start my nursing journey and had a question that I just cannot seem to answer. I called my local community college about enrolling, prerequisties, etc. and I was told that although I have a BS degree, I would need to take all my prerequisites again (i.e., basic math, english, psychology and others). I need to take all my sciences on top of this. So my question is this - do I just retake all the courses again since overall it will be cheaper than going to a private school or do I just go for it and get the BSN in (3 yrs, but carry about $40K+ worth of debt). The downside is that in having to retake all the courses, it will be (1-1.5) year of prerequisites (part time) and (2) years for the RN and another 13 months for the RN to BSN. It will be cheaper, but a longer journey. Thoughts, opinions? Thank you!!
