  1. While I encountered the unwillingness to teach as a student many times, I find it even more disgusting as a new nurse to meet so many coworkers who show zero interest in helping me to become a proficient nurse....why is that in a profession which emphasizes compassion there are so many non compassionate people...Very sad!!
  2. Beats me why some women want to loose everything getting involved with inmates. ...if you want to get involved with a looser why not find one on the streets...there are plenty around and it will at least not get you in trouble professionally...
  3. Sure, most of us would love to get our first experience on a med surg floor...LOL
  4. Yes, IM who have real medical issues get swept aside...And it bites the med companies who contract there in the butt. Nice breeding ground for lawsuits and we as nurses are right in the middle of it...the other side of correctional nursing.
  5. Exactly...tired of the negative comments myself. All nurses should worry about is giving compassionate health care. If this is bothersome, just pick up your license and work elsewhere. Geez...
  6. I would. Most of them have a high turn over and can't be too picky.
  7. 2 words...AZ sucks!! I had some luck in NM...but ended up taking a job at a state prison, mostly because it pays better than most here in AZ. LA is another state which seems to be more welcoming to new grads. Good luck!!
  8. Kindred is lucky to have so many desperate new grads available...
  9. Hope you find something soon...I have been a LTC LPN for a while before getting my RN. Just got hired on at a state prison...maybe something to consider...Good luck!!
  10. Sounds more like LTAC with vent patients...
  11. From what I hear it's a thing of the past making the big bugs with traveling...and be aware, I increasingly see nurses' contracts cancelled in the middle of an assignment. Important to have a good financial cushion...if the unexpected happens 3000 miles away from home. Don't get me wrong, travel is great thing, just go in there with open eyes!!
  12. Asimon, the travel agency's recruiter forgot to tell you that you can actually travel with LTC experience. Many LTC places are happy with just one year experience and the pay is compatible to med surg positions. Something to consider if you are interested in traveling.
  13. How sad that we have to tiptoe around some physicians...have seen it also in LTC...Why the hell do some people pick health care...just get a 8-5 job!!
  14. [h=2]RN - Med Surg- FT - Days (NO NEW GRADS) - new[/h] E-Health - Bullhead City, AZ Must be licensed in this state or eligible. Excellent compensation. Must be a graduate of an Seeing this on a daily basis, I believe that New Grads should be permitted to vent without being judged...
  15. Sorry, afraid I can't give any advice but know what you're saying. I'm a bit tired myself hearing the same mantra again and again. I did the 2+years of nursing home first and honestly, I think it hurts me now to get into acute care. It is who you know...that's the only sure thing nowadays!!
  16. Congrats on passing your Nclex. In my opinion a med surg position will be best to transfer to home health and eventually traveling. I'm a new RN grad myself and traveled as LPN in LTC but would like to add med surg on my resume so I can have more choices in the travel world. Traveling in home health is doable, just not as many positions available. I know somebody who works on Marthas Vineyard as a home health travel nurse and loves it. Your biggest challenge is finding that first new grad job as you probably already know. I have been looking for a month and now apply nationwide to hopefully get going with my life. Btw, I bet I'm way older than you lol!!
  17. Congrats, James, so happy for you!! Now on to the job search...Good luck!!
  18. I talked to somebody today who had me convinced that LA is a good place to find a job as a new RN. Your experience makes me wonder...good luck and keep us updated.
  19. Congrats...being bilingual is a good thing!! Keep us updated...
  20. The first year only....lol...wouldn't that be great!!
  21. I don't know much about the past travel opportunities other than the pay seemed to be way better. I participate in a FB travel community and from what I see there is still demand especially for specialized positions. The reason why I started this thread is that I am a new grad myself and see on a daily basis the insane amount of travel jobs being offered here in AZ, especially now in the winter. I know that most of my class mates left the state and I might not be far behind at this point. I just find it sad that the hospitals here don't put more emphasis on training and sustaining new grads to avoid their desperate need for all these travel nurses during this season. From what I hear 80-100/hr is what they pay the travel agencies, a staff nurse makes way less.
  22. Well, consider the fact that healthcare is to a great part financed by the government speak the taxpayer...Should it not be in the public's interest to solve this issue...Doesn't this country deserve competent nurses when the baby boomers retire???
  23. This is from a conversation happening earlier and I would love to hear other opinions... "you are missing my point. I have worked as a travel nurse before myself, so I understand. However, something is wrong with the "system" when new grads get left behind only because it might be too expensive or inconvenient to train them while the hospital has no problem spending 100/hr between paying the travel agency and the nurse. This in my opinion is "disgraceful" at the best. A nation has to look out for their young people, they are the future and this is clearly not happening..."

  25. Anybody ever wondered why hospitals don't have a problem to spend big bucks on travel nurses while they are budget conscious in regards hiring and training new grads. Just go on indeed and plug in AZ, every other offer is for a travel position.
