So the bookstore doesn't have the pharmacology book as part of their package yet. Something went wrong with the order on the publishers side of things. From what I understand, the bookstore is on top of finding out whether the book will be added into the package or you might have to buy it individually. Either way, the books without pharmacology cost around $600 at the book store. If pharmacology is added to the bundle the price will increase.

Does anyone know if the pharmacology book is supposed to come with the semester one bundle? I just bought the semester 1 bundle and there is no pharmacology book!

I use one smaller binder for school and then come home and scan all docs into my mac and cloud services. Then I review them and put them into a large 3 inch semester binder for further review. That way, if anything happens to my notes (burn or get lost) I always have a pair on my mac.

I want: OB I don't mind if I'm in any other field though

As the taco girl says...."why not both?" I'll be buying both since it's a part of my nursing book bundle. Best of both worlds. Searchable text for research and print text for longer readings.

I don't dress down in pajama's but I do try to stay comfortable. I try not to dress to fancy. And I definitely don't try to where anything so fashionable that it hurts. A nice pair of jeans with variable tops always looks nice.

Honestly, the higher the education, the more future proof you are in your job. A BSN will probably be a requirement in the near future (a decade or so). I'm sure in a few more decades a masters might be required. Always push for the most education you can afford. It will open doors for you later in life.

I buy all my books. I have two bookshelves filled with books I've bought from pre-reqs. I take pride in the knowledge I've learned and I always refer back to books when having discussions with people. Referencing nursing books is a great idea. I'm planning on buying all my books. Although probably from half.com

Wow. The pressure that parents put on their kids sound terrible sometimes. I was very fortunate enough to grow up in a household that encouraged education all the way. I still have to play for college...but that's why I saved up for it. I took a few years off of school to make money so that I could focus on school when the time came. You should work if you feel like you can. Not to sound arrogant or rude, but if you couldn't handle commuting and going to school...working doesn't sound like the best option for you; and that's totally ok. It wouldn't work for me either. When I'm in school, my mind is focused on my classes 110%. Sometimes you've got to forget about the things your parents say and do whats best for you. But make sure your not giving up on your own untapped potential. Who knows...maybe you could juggle a bunch of things at once....you'll have to do that as a nurse.

If you want to do it for the money, you might last a year or two. It's tough being a nurse. I've seen people how clearly shouldn't be nurses but feel like it's the only job that is stable for them. But guess what?...The patients and hospital suffer.

Definitely go for it. Nursing isn't about how old you are, it's about how caring and loving you are. If you think you are a kind and gentle person...I say go for it even if you were 100!

Hi KrioH, I hope you don't mind answering a few questions. 1. How difficult was the first semester compared to other semesters you have had? 2. Are the the classes and tests more based on critical thinking (e.g. patient is displaying these signs...what's wrong?) or more repeating the information you've learned? (e.g. Define hypertension) 3. How much time did it take you to learn the information thoroughly? (for each section before an exam) 4. What advice can you give us incoming nursing students? 5. Could you describe the nursing skills time frame. Did you spend a lot of time in there? Did you have to stay for the the class times you signed up for? (only reason I ask is because it said something in our packet that there is no set time because of individually paced modules) Thanks KrioH

Haha. Sorry for the confusion. We don't have to register for the workshop, just classes...sometime in mid June. I'm a transfer student, so I haven't completed any of the SJSU studies. The workshop is in August. It's just weird to think that We have nothing else to do right now but wait... BigCat, was the 100W HPRF course pretty tough? Are there any skill I can work at now so that the course would be easier? Thanks

Agreed with the ripoff. But after calculating the costs, the addition of digital books are only going to cost an extra $100-$200 (from SJSU bundle). I understand for some the extra hundred or two might be much, but it is convenient....and maybe that's all, a convenience. I try to purchase most of my books from half.com and almost always used, but considering that these books are going to be used as reference for some more semesters, I'm thinking of purchasing the bundle...but only if I find my budget allows me. Does anyone know if there is anything else we need to be doing right now? I just got my hep B titter test done but won't get my results till Tuesday. And I understand that they don't want us getting anymore vaccinations until after the workshop. This is correct right? Do we just register on our registration date and then just go to the workshop on August 16th? Is that all? When is your registration appointment? Also...when are you planning on getting your R, S, V courses done? The semesters seem tough enough as it is. Sorry for all the questions...I just have so many...

All the courses except for HPROF 100W can be done before hand at a community college. Or if you are already a SJSU student, you can get HPROF 100W done once you've completed 60 semester units or more.

For those who got in...does anyone know when enrollment starts? Do we have priority enrollment (group 1) for being in the nursing program? Also for anyone who is in the nursing program currently and reading this...do you use a lot of tech/gadgets...like laptops and tablets? I only ask because the books seem to have electronic versions and paper versions. Just thought I'd get the heads up on what I need to buy this summer or save up for. Also, what do you think of the program?

Do you use laptops in the SJSU nursing program? I noticed they do a whole bundle of digital books, and was wondering what you think I might need for the upcoming year.
