CNA acute care vs. CNA LTC
What's the scoop. Do you acute care CNA's feel as overworked as the LTC CNA's. I have a friend who works at Kaiser she love, love, loves the work environment. Just curious about what others have to say. The CNA experience is eye opening. I will soon be working at a LTC and from what I see and hear I'm a little anxious

CNA Question
I am a current nursing student who also is working toward my state certification to become a CNA.There are many jobs that can fall into this great debate. I have worked for many years for my local school district as a teacher's assistant. Many times being referred to as a teacher. I am teaching but I am an ASSISTANT of the TEACHER. I do not hold a credential nor did I earn the title as I didn't spend 4+ years in college. Someday I will be a nurse. I understand a nursing assistant is an ASSISTANT to the NURSE. I will have earned the title nurse by the completion of my nursing program. I am not offended by the fact that I cannot refer to myself as a nurse. I'm a pretty good cook but I'm not a CHEF. Everyone deserves respect in what they do and for those who have worked hard to earn the title Nurse ,Teacher, etc. I see where they feel passionate about the issue. Keep on caring in all that you do.

is this child abuse?
As a longtime licensed provider of a family daycare I think you did the right thing by removing your children. I far as the incident with the jacket, I don't know if I would call it abuse. I wasn't there and didn't witness the way in which she went about it (scolding him and handling him). If she is a licensed daycare I would encourage you to report the incident to the the proper official who can investigate it further. Sometimes it's hard to find the right provider. I think it is important for a provider to honor the parent and try to work with instead of against when it comes to the children. She sounded a bit controlling. I too had rules about things that were allowed in my home however sometimes rules got broken and for goodness sake they are children. They are your children! Although sometimes I encountered different parenting styles and different house rules I tried to respect those differences and not force my opinions or judgements upon the kiddos in my care. My job was to keep them safe and happy and hopefully make them feel loved and secure while their parents were away. Good Luck! P.S. I became a provider because like you I had a bad experience. I ran a family daycare for 5 years. Returned to work and school 2 years ago. I know it must be hard for you. Don't give up there are great providers out there.

What are the nursing schools in your area like??
In my area you can't apply to the ADN program until all the pre reqs are complete. Then after about 1 year of pre req's you can apply and wait another year or longer (so I hear) for acceptance. I am just about done with pre req's took me forever. Now I wait! I am thinking about working as a CNA while I play the waiting game.

Reward system for hardworking CNA's..need help!
I think the best reward would be to get the LAZY CNA's to do their job. A system of checks and balances to make sure everyone is doing their job should be in place. How about a weekly meeting where you recognize those who are going above and beyond and somehow try to encourage those who need to be motivated. I think the serious hard working employees would find it rewarding to know that management cares about the quality and performance of all cna's. I have worked in places where they give you a pat on the back but that feeling of goodness wears off when your job becomes overwhelming because of a lazy co-worker. I would much rather see my employer recognize the person not doing the job and fix the problem. That would be the ultimate reward!

Anyone have a NON healthcare job while in nursing school?
I am a current nursing student. I will be completing my pre reqs during summer and hope to apply asap for the adn program at my local CC. There is a waiting list. I am currently employed pt at a school working with at risk children. I enjoy my job. It pays well. I have been thinking about leaving to gain experience as a CNA . I too am unsure about leaving my current comfortable position. I'm a mom of three and working toward my nursing goals. I think my biggest concern is I might take a job in the healthcare industry and loose sight of my schooling since I know I'll be waiting for acceptance. I would like to have the hands on experience and I'm sure when the right opportunity comes around I'll take it. I would also like to know what others have to say.

Nursing shortage! Nursing program waiting lists!
I am working on completion of my pre reqs for the ADN program at my local CC. I am a little concerned over the fact that upon my app. I will be placed into a random selection pool. One-third of the class will be alternates from the previous year .Two-thirds will be new apps. I knew what I was walking into, however I just don't understand why. There is a nursing shortage and such high demand for nurses. Why don't we have more programs to educate those who are ready, willing and able. I live in CA. Are other states in the same boat? I'm a mom of three . 33 years old. I work PT and attend classes. Just curious about what others have to say about this issue.
