Houston Community College Fall 2013
I believe it's 60 or so dollars but don't quote me on that.

Houston Community College Fall 2013
When I first took my pre-requites at Coleman I found out how expensive parking is. Ever since then it's been the metro for me! You don't really have much choice jb. You could either pay a monthly rate for TMC parking or use any one of the Metro Park and Ride.

Houston Community College- Pharmacology in Fall 2012

Houston Community College Fall 2013
We don't have to worry about the background check or anything else until once we're accepted into the program, although some of the shots take a while to get so if anyone hasn't stared them I would highly advise they do so

Houston Community College- Pharmacology in Fall 2012
She's having us use the etext? That's strange. Why not just read through the book normally. I bought the book without the bundle and will have to buy a mynursinglab pass on the first day of class.

HCC Houston Spring 2014 Applicants
Wow I thought you had to have all those classes finished before you could take pharmacology. I took micro in the spring and so far it's my favorite class I have taken. Very interesting.

HCC Houston Spring 2014 Applicants
Welcome to the thread guys. :) I start this Thursday and it's giving me the jitters as well...

People sure do have some nasty opinions about nursing
My friend used to think like this. That is until his liver exploded in the middle of the night and there were no MD's in sight...

Oldest in cohort...feeling out of place
Age doesn't matter. I'm usually the only youngin' among my groups and every one else is in their 30's or 40's and we get along great. :)

Are you a wizard? I ask because I just walked out of Microcenter with a touchscreen ASUS. :)
-
iMac or MacBook!
I don't pay much attention to brands, I look more at the internals. Although I agree with Fireman767 that Asus is a pretty good brand that keeps their prices low. And if you're merely doing school work then you really don't even have to go over $500. Unless you want a metal frame and fancy things like that which could drive the price up a little. Just post the laptop you are considering and I can tell you more about it.

I figured. Thanks gelibean. By the way did anyone else get the email from Ms. S***** (lady at the desk, I know we're not supposed to put staff names). So bummed that she is leaving. :/ She was super helpful in my time at Coleman.

Keep calm and pre req on
If your future classmates are anything like me then they'll be be extra helpful to you. :) We get a lot of Nigerian immigrants at my school and whenever they needed something I was happy to be their go to guy.

What did/do you dissect in A&P lab?
I'm so jealous. We didn't get to dissect anything in any of my prerequisites. :/

I have to admit I went through them the same way. Back when I was a total noob. Want a tip? It's the USER, not the hardware (unless you got some really cheap garbage from a brand like Rosewill.) Either way you're talking software not hardware so this is off topic. Surely being in IT for so long this is elementary, right? Get smarter friends or teach them like I did. But more onto what you were saying. Quality of workmanship? The internals in a Mac are made by Intel, AMD, Seagate, Kingston, Crucial, etc. All the major brands that PC builders know and that are in my system right now. You think somehow overpaying for it to be in different case with an Apple on it suddenly makes it better? And don't even get me started on the freaking Air series. One look at the specs for that thing fills me with rage because I know people like you don't know any better. Pmabraham my friend, I'm on a cheap 500 dollar Sony Vaio right now. EVERY single piece of hardware in that Mac is lower. Even the screen resolution! And it's a Mac! That's one thing where they usually excel! Although it does have one more USB slot. That's worth $500 dollars right? :)

iMac or MacBook!
Hit the nail on the head. The problem is people that go and spend that much money on a laptop will look for excuses in justifying the money they spent. They feel that there is a special type of "techno-magic" involved that only the exorbitantly priced machines offer. For you and me it is not so. We can look objectively at a computer's specs and understand how much it should be worth. We measure speeds in Ghz, memory in RAM, Size in TB's and GB's, and we get SSD's vs. HDD's along with many other things. And until someone else learns to do the same that person will continue to get screwed.

Mobility is now worth $3000? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152443 Here you go. Took maybe a minute to find. That has a GTX 670 btw so it's technically a gaming laptop. What does that mean? That a laptop that suits your needs and still has higher specs than your Macbook PRO would cost less than $1500. You can't get a Macbook with those specs but do you have any idea how much it would cost for a Mac desktop to come close to that. It would be over $6000 dollars. The aforementioned PC I built? It's already spec'd higher for CHEAPER than the MSI laptop I linked. I'm giving this example as a sort of insight. You will always get screwed for going expensive on a laptop. They charge premiums on the same hardware, by the same companies, that is not worth that much and which will inevitably be limited because the heat-sinks and components in a laptop cannot physically handle the heat from better tech. (P.S the heatsinks in Macs are very low quality stuff.) I just hope you know that Apple is world famous for the most outrageous premiums of any company. You don't want to get screwed? Get a 500 dollar Vaio, wipe that sucker, and throw OSX Mountain Lion on it.

iMac or MacBook!
I hate Macs. They're traps for computer noobs. Just google computer hardware and read for 30 minutes. Just yesterday I built my buddy's beastly PC after moving to his new house. 8-core AMD Bulldozer processor @ 4Ghz, 8 Gigs of Ram, 500 GB SSD, 1TB HDD, 1000 Watt PSU, and a GORGEOUS HD 7970 for 1300$ And to think for 3000 dollars, you could get yourself a quad-core Macbook PRO...

Have most of you taken AP with Micro?
It was one of those classes that was "recommended" instead of required. Poppycock I say! I ended up taking it in between both A&P's and now whenever my nursing friends ask me if they should take it I have to control myself to not scream at them.
-
Should I get my RN first and then bridge to BSN or should I get my BSN?
I'm doing the RN-BSN route. I always answer this question the same. If money is not an issue and it is feasible, go directly to a BSN and save the time. Unfortunately it would cost me 4x more to go straight for my BSN.
-
Can I go to community college and transfer into a BSN program?
Of course you can! I'm doing an ADN program and then a RN-BSN program as going straight BSN would literally cost 4 times as much where I live. :)
-
Which of the sciences did you find hardest?
A&P 1. I stupidly took that course before I took general biology so it was all new to me.
-
Have most of you taken AP with Micro?
As long as you've taken general biology then you can take on any of them in pretty much any order. Also, A&PII was probably the easiest science course I had to take.
