Anyone else "only" going for LPN?
I'm planning on becoming an LPN. It's been my dream since I was little :)

IM injections
Hi! I am working as a nurse in Canada and am wondering about IM injections. I was taught to never ever use the dorsogluteal site because of the possibility of piercing the sciatic nerve. So I use the ventrogluteal site. Some patients come in for their depo shots and say that they usually get it in their butt cheek. So I explain the sciatic nerve thing and tell them I won't use that site and I use the ventrogluteal site. I'm curious as to why the dorsogluteal site is still being used when it is clearly stated in my nursing foundations book to never go there. Perhaps it's the old-school nurses still using the butt cheek site?

Percussion
I'm wondering that too. We seemed to skip right over it in school.

looking for an online program
There is an online LPN program in Edmonton, Alberta. But you do have to go there for the labs and practicums. It is NorQuest College.

I'm so old!
I am 40 and about half way thru my LPN program. Everyday I wonder if I can get thru it!!

Hybrid / Online LPN Programs
Yes it is the clinical portions of the program (the practicums). But the final 2 practicums can be done in your home town.

Hybrid / Online LPN Programs
There is also NorQuest College in Edmonton, Alberta (Canada). Wonderful school offering LPN by distance education and the practical work must be done in Edmonton. That is how I am learning and it is perfect for me since I have 3 kids and work.

Little personal
Omg yes! I've been married for almost 14 years and we have 3 kids (ages 4,11 and 12). My marriage is very rocky due to the fact that I am extremely busy and have no time for my husband. Our relationship is even more stressful than nursing school

Anxiety and doubt
I feel the exact same way! One minute I feel good and the next I wonder what I was thinking getting into this.

Pharm - are you kidding me?
Seriously! My course is 7 weeks long and I have my first exam next week. How in the world are we supposed to learn/know all these drugs? I am making medication classification cards but so far, there's about a million of them and I'm nowhere near being done. It is just not possible to stuff all this info into my head. I'm seriously freaking out right now, on the verge of tears and wondering if I can do this...

Finally Doing IT! My Long Journey...
Right on! I am 40 and have just started out on my nursing path. Nursing has been calling me my whole life and now I'm finally going for it. I am scared but determined not to let that stop me.

Can't stay awake
I can't, for the life of me, stay awake when I study. It is so frustrating. I have 3 kids and work part time and get as much sleep as I can. No amount of caffeine helps me... I fall asleep at my desk almost every time. Does anyone else have this problem and if so, how do you manage?

Online PN classes?
If you are in Canada, Norquest College offers it by distance education. And you go to Edmonton for the practicums.

What's Your Best Nursing Ghost Story?
Several years ago, shortly after my grandpa died, I was sleeping and it was about 3 a.m. I woke up to balloons popping (just had a birthday party for my son) and musical toys playing in the living room. I woke up and said "hi grampa. I'm trying to sleep". The noises stopped right away. I wasn't scared at all and went back to sleep.

Not a good time to have a sick kid
Omg I have a final exam tomorrow in health assessment and my 3 year old is throwing up. And after my exam, I have to get on an airplane and fly to where my school is to perform my assessments. I am kind of in panic mode right now and just needed to vent to people that understand ...

Help
I have suffered with panic attacks, anxiety and depression for much of my adult life. I am in an LPN program now. I have 3 kids, youngest is 3 and a complete terror. I am having a panic moment right now as I sit in my vehicle waiting for my tear streaked face to get back to normal before I go inside to study. I am so overwhelmed with nursing school as well as several other things going on in my life. For the first time, I completely understand why people see suicide as their last resort. I get it. I can't do this.. Why did I think I could?

Hours of study
Just curious as to how many hours you study per day as an LPN student?

Afraid
I am just starting out on the road to becoming an LPN (which has been my dream since I was a kid) and I'm so excited! But I'm also terrified. I'm scared I won't be smart enough or be able to remember anything or I'll look stupid performing my skills. I'm scared that with 3 kids and working part time that I won't get enough study time. I'm afraid that I don't know how to study properly. I'm trying not to panic but it's really hard not to. I need some inspiring and motivational words...

Reading strategies
Hi everyone- I am wondering if there is a way to read and actually remember the info. Most of the time I find myself not retaining much. Does anyone have a special way of reading so you can remember what you've read?
