Anyone doing well 1st semester?
I agree that it is important to celebrate good grades and keep this thread up on the first page as well. I am just in my 1st semester and just going by what I've learned about my classmates that aren't doing well, it seems that either they aren't doing their reading or are struggling with the NCLEX style questions. All our written exams have been NCLEX based. I think I grasped on to that concept quickly during my summer pharmacology class, but I can understand how it can be difficult to apply fact based study material to situational questions. Those struggling I would suggest to get help now before you get too far under water. My program has retention specialists that are required to meet with you every time you make below an 80 on a test.

L&D Clinicals - 3 Babies!!
That sounds amazing! I'm just in my first semester but I can't wait for L&D! I want to eventually be a certified nurse midwife and have only seen my nephew be born so far. Congrats. I almost got teary eyed just reading about your experience. Seeing twins would be awesome!

Anyone doing well 1st semester?
I appreciate everyone commenting. I'm not going to feel guilty for doing well. I'm not going to be smug about it, but I am proud of myself for my accomplishments so far. I had our unit 2 test today in fundamentals and made 100%. We also had to write out an assessment on a fake patient and read out our findings. The instructor was impressed and even said that it was a thorough, "advanced practice nurse" quality assessment. I am going to keep high standards for myself and try my best to keep up with this momentum.

Anyone doing well 1st semester?
Thanks and congrats to everyone doing well. I was so nervous at the start of my program but feel confident that I at least know what is expected of me. In my program we are expected to keep up with what is due without 100 reminders. I understand that and stay on top of it. I think there's more responsibility put on us to keep up with everything without the instructors holding our hands like I feel is done with some pre req classes. I'm flexible but a lot of people in my class freak out about not being reminded everyday to check the syllabus.

Anyone doing well 1st semester?
I have read several threads about people failing first tests and being frustrated, but not many about doing well. After a slight hiccup with a dosage calculation exam we had to take at the beginning of the program (had to get a 90 on it within 3 attempts or you can't progress further in the program- I made a 86 on the first, 100 on the second), I have been really proud of my test grades and clinical check off scores. I don't go around tooting my own horn. If someone asks about what I made on a test I just say that I'm happy with my grade. I know that I just need to worry about myself, but it is hard for me not to feel guilty for being proud of my grades when there are people who claim to study constantly and are failing. I was just wondering if anyone else out there is feeling like this in their 1st semester. I'm taking school very seriously and it is awesome for that effort to be reflected through my scores. Maybe me feeling guilty about doing well when others are failing is a personality flaw that I'm going to have to overcome.

I got an A in pharm too! My first nursing class. :)

Scrubs!!
I think your scrubs look awesome! Ours will be black bottoms with a khaki top and white lab coat. My school used to do all white so I am lucky I suppose. We won't do our fitting until last week of August.

Anyone trying to get fit before NS?
I start clinicals at the end of August, so I've decided to start working out and eating better. I started a couch to 5K program on Thursday. I've never been a runner, but doing what I have done already has made me feel a lot better. I hope I get addicted to running! That certainly would help with my stress.

What date do you start?
I start my online Pharmacology class this summer, actually MONDAY! It is a 5 week course that we have to take every summer and spring semester until we graduate. I just got all my information and the first test on Unit 1 (first 4 chapters) is due on June 6th! I will finish that class in July and then have my CPR certification on July 13th and July 20th. My paperwork (shots, medical records, background and drug screening) is due August 1st. I start my Nursing Skills and Principals and Concepts classes on August 26th!

Waiting on acceptance/rejection letters
Thank you! It still hasn't sunk in completely yet. :)

Waiting on acceptance/rejection letters
I have been a "lurker" on these boards for some time while taking my pre-nursing classes. My school is highly competitive because they offer a night/weekend program. This year there were 255 applicants for 10 spots. I was chosen as an alternate, but I thought with those odds, I wouldn't get in. So for around a month I've been grieving and searching for another option. Today I get a call from my school offering me a spot! Of course I accepted!!! I couldn't even come to these boards because seeing other people get in depressed me so much. I am glad to say I will be a Fall 2013 nursing student!
