  1. Oh well didn't read all the comments when I decided to jump on the bandwagon. Looks like the previous poster already mentioned the patient ratio thing and their expected outcomes LOL. Was thinking I was the only one that saw that part of the article SMH.
  2. Why not compare ASN holders with less number of patients to BSN with more number of patients and see which one will have an increase in mortality rate. When I read that part I was like, really? In my opinion, if a RN intends furthering his/her education then BSN is fine; however, if they intend remaining a bedside nurse, then ASN is just fine. What save lives IMO will be Low Patient - Nursing ratio and having on the Job Experience coupled with proper nursing ethics whether as a BSN or ASN degree holder.
  3. I know right? I had a female lecture for lab (Ogaga) and yes the school gives extra credit. For instance, they gave about 75 questions for lab midterm and final as opposed to 70 so the extra five questions were extra credit. I think one other student made a 101% but I'm not sure.
  4. Correct! @hopefulrngsu I think my GPA and about 86 Volunteer hours saved me too. I reluctantly applied on the due date (Oct 1st) and was accepted with 82 on TEASV (only 1 attempt), 4.0 GPA (62 credit hours + all sciences), and an extra CNA certification (sans work experience). I will suggest having a good TEAS score on the first attempt. I did not really study for mine, I only went to a tutor that brushed through the entire study guide material with me within three days and I decided to go see what the exam feels like since I can always take it again but I made 82 individual score and 91 percentile. It was only two days to the due date (Oct 1st) so I turned in my application without retaking the TEAS and was accepted. Get a TEAS / NCLEX tutor if you don't have the time to study it really does help. I am willing to give out his # if anyone is interested.
  5. @meep Oh yes! Absolutely correct. I wanted Emory too so badly but when I began to volunteer at their hospital (EUHM) I spoke to two Emory BSN graduates on my unit; one was on scholarship, and the other was not. Although, they both had mixed feelings for the school, they said they do not think it made any sense or difference taking out that amount of loans if you have a cheaper option. I think it helped them though because they got a job right after they received their RN certification and on the UNIT they wanted. I was later accepted to Emory but declined and accepted GSU instead with 4.0 GPA (62 credit hours including all science classes), 82 TEASV (only 1 attempt), more than 75 Volunteer hours (with Emory), and a CNA with CPR certification. I've been paying through college out of pocket and was not ready to spend that much for a BSN degree when I could own more properties with that. I will be going to Emory for my MSN no doubt.
  6. The curriculum is still the same as it were in that link. Don't let the "2013-2014" throw you off. They may give us another during the meeting next month (Jan 8).
  7. Check the letter of acceptance you received in your mail packet, it tells you the classes you need to take for spring. Mine also says I should take NURS2040 and NURS2060, which leaves me to only 4 credit hours. I guess it's because I have taken other classes like Statistics, Psychology, Speech, and one elective that would have made it a total of 15 hours. You can also check their website B.S. in Nursing | GSU Undergraduate Course Catalog 2013-2014 and see the classes you already have and what is left to take.
  8. From the first page I read I thought this post will die a natural death by not making it to the second page with all the warning from other posters. Anyways it has about 1165 comments now while other posts are yet to reach their 25th comment. Hope I will be the last to comment on this "controversy"? Please let it be so!
  9. WOW! I will be starting Nursing School in Spring of 2016 and I decided to start reading up on 1st semester case scenarios especially on "Care Plan" and "Nursing Diagnosis". God bless you all for always throwing in more light each time a student asks a question or confused about something. Will definitely be getting the NANDA book right away. The truth is I don't think one can ever prepare enough for nursing school; not withstanding, I will get the book and read the areas the previous poster Grntea or NurseprnRN posted. Thanks to Esme too, even though his/her post isn't here, I've seen and read a lot about their posts. Thank God for AN, best nursing site ever! (IMO).
  10. Oh well, it's right here in the packet. Check the Program Orientation invitation or sheet, #5 on the list indicates where we will find the health documentation packet (it will be on the quiz following the PINS review). Hope this helps? Thanks.
  11. @annerstine that's actually why I came on here to see if anyone has an answer to your question. Just checked my mailbox and found mine about few minutes ago. I think the health documentation requirements will be a report indicating that we have the necessary or updated vaccinations required by most schools. I may however, send a message to Ms Wanda Little for more information. Good luck on your acceptance. Currently hoping that they accept my study buddy, holding hopes on her behalf [emoji120].
  12. Applied to GSU on the due date Oct 1st. Was pregnant but had a Pre-term baby on Sept 9 who couldn't survive the outside world because he was only four months old. After recovery I decided to take the TEASV with about three days of studying and made a 91 national rank and 82 individual score. Science and math portion were 100 each but scored low on the English reading or grammar. Wanted to take the exam again but I had two days to apply before the due date. Applied either way for the Traditional BSN Program (Spring 2016). Received a message asking me to send a reactivation form if I want to be considered, tried calling GSU and sending emails but no reply. I felt there was an error and did not send the reactivation form because I've just been admitted into the school in August (we know GSU requires that every student applying to their nursing program must have been admitted into the school before sending one). Just yesterday, the third November I felt well that's it! I won't be contacting anyone again, I will simply apply again to Emory since I now have the required 60 credits and still with a very good GPA coupled with about 66 hours of volunteer at Emory Hospital, 29 at MedShare, and added CNA, and CPR certification to my resume. I signed up for their open house on the 14th November. To my surprise, just in my depression and looking to go this route again I received a message saying I have been ACCEPTED at GSU. GSU application was so easy and straightforward and there are better chances of getting in since one isn't required to attach a resume (a plus for those who don't have work experience or for foreign students). I'm so excited and can't wait to do this. Thanks to all that commented and read this post. God Bless Us. Excuse the typos if any sending this via the mobile app.
  13. Just received an email that I've been ACCEPTED into the Traditional track for Spring 2016. I already lost hope on this because I was checking my home phone messages last two weeks and got a message from Mr Hugh saying I need to submit a reactivation letter for my application to be considered. It was surprising because I just got accepted into GSU in August and sent my nursing application on the due date OCT 1st. Just yesterday, I gave up since no one is replying my messages or returning my calls. I've always been told to apply to GSU but for some reasons I kept pushing the idea away. Well, here it is. YIPEE!!![emoji126]🏽
  14. @sheilou no dear not fully, still some work going one with no guarantee of accreditation before one graduates. https://www.herzing.edu/about/accreditation "...Further, the program is a new applicant program pursuing initial accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE, One Dupont Circle, NW, Suite 530 Washington, DC, 20036-1120, 202-887-6791, www.aacn.nche.edu/ccne-accreditation)." Read and understand what comes after, don't get the above statement confused for full accreditation. "New applicant status is neither a status of accreditation nor a guarantee that accreditation will be granted. New and current students should not plan on the program having said accreditation at the time they graduate. Some employers may prefer applicants from programs that have CCNE accreditation. Students are advised to consult with employers of preference as to the importance of this accreditation on their hiring decisions." Did anyone try to compare Emory to Herzing? Oh well... I will rather go to only Emory (if I choose the private route) or go to any other public university (like GSU, KSU...).
  15. I think someone did not mention all the facts about their accreditation. Here's what I just copied now (17th of August 2015) from their website. Right after what the above poster that works with Herzing says, is this ".......Further, the program is a new applicant program pursuing initial accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE, One Dupont Circle, NW, Suite 530 Washington, DC, 20036-1120, 202-887-6791, American Association of Colleges of Nursing | CCNE Accreditation). (Most important, read this) New applicant status is neither a status of accreditation nor a guarantee that accreditation will be granted. New and current students should not plan on the program having said accreditation at the time they graduate. Some employers may prefer applicants from programs that have CCNE accreditation. Students are advised to consult with employers of preference as to the importance of this accreditation on their hiring decisions." 16. WOW! You did great. I had A's in both. A&P1: 98% In Lecture, 101% in Lab A&P2: 98.8% in Lecture, 99% in Lab.
  17. To anyone considering taking science classes online at GPC, if you are good at online classes, please go for it. Most students I know that withdrew about 2-3 times from A&P 1 in Gwinnett Tech had an A on first attempt at Georgia Perimeter College. I had mine at GTC and it was intense.
  18. Update: I was able to register at Georgia Perimeter College while attending GTC. If the student is paying out of pocket then it's doable; if otherwise, financial aid will not allow it according to what GPC told me while registering. Currently attending both schools for a 21 credit - hour work load this semester because each school allows only accept a maximum of 18 credit hours per semester, so I had to take classes from both schools to be able to pull this up.
  19. You can do it. Wish you well in A&P2.
  20. Just felt I should update the thread even though it has been a while. Anyways, I was informed in December 2014 that I should apply as a transfer student and not as a Second Degree student because for some reasons I could not get to evaluate my foreign credential (degree) via WES, which is the only third party accreditation Emory accepts. I did send my evaluation to them from Josef Silny, but I think it was not enough. Long story short, I decided to take 21 Credit Hours in Spring just to make sure I get all the required 60 credit hours, and then I went ahead and applied as a Traditional / Transfer Student. I also did apply and currently working as a Volunteer in Emory University Hospital Midtown coupled with Volunteering at MedShare Decatur (Twice each month). Result: on the 1st day of March, I checked the Emory Decision link on OPUS and unfortunately, I was placed on a wait-list (someone did mention that "there is no wait list in Atlanta" I think on the first page of this post; anyways, there seem to be one in Emory). I do understand though, that the wait-list is to make room for other "strong candidates" (as written in the Decision Letter on OPUS) to be accepted since some students that have already been accepted may be looking to drop their admission. Moving forward, I'm still on a 4.0GPA and Emory is where I want to be, I cried myself out and I'm looking to move on. If I had known I will be applying as a Traditional student then it will make sense to hold on applying until I get the required credit hours. I was not expecting much though since I had only 33 credit hours completed as at the time I registered. With the 21 credit hours work load this semester, volunteering at Med Share and Emory Hospital, working from home with two kids and a husband, I have just registered for a CNA 4-week program starting on Monday (5 days from now). Bottom line, I will apply to other schools this fall and will be sure to update this thread when I do get accepted, I will also be taking the TEAS V Exam this Fall. Advice: Apply when you have all the core courses completed and at least 50 credit hours if applying as a Traditional Student, also Take the TEAS; yes, it is not required, but it got to a point (I think when they were trying to make a decision on my case), I received a message asking me to send my enterance exam scores if I have any, I was surprised. I sent in my ACT Compass scores showing I did not take any remedial class, but I guess the person they chose over me had the TEAS scores. Finally, apply to as many schools as you can and don't make the mistake I made by applying to only one school. Conclusion: I'm on the wait-list, I received a message to confirm if I will like to be placed on their wait-list to this effect. I will try again this Fall, and by then I will have all 60 credit hours completed and even more since other schools require a few different additional classes from what I have for Emory, I will also be taken the TEAS V exam, and with my volunteer and CNA experience, I see no reason why I won't get accepted to any school in 2016. Also, I will be applying to many schools as possible and not throw all my eggs in one basket. I feel pressured though while on the wait - list to make sure and complete all 60 credit hours just in case I am been called upon or accepted at the last minute even though I am not banking on that call at this moment, we just never know. Thanks everyone for your input, if you have anything to share or suggest, please don't hesitate. Like I said earlier, I only come here when I am "confused at the moment" (Much hugs and love). I will be sure to check back with an update because I intend keeping this thread until I get my NCLEX if Christ tarries in his coming.
  21. I only come on here when I'm confused about something... Thanks for all the lovelies who took out the time to help straighten things up. Y'all Rock! WOW, thanks for the link. Will be calling them first thing in the morning for more info. The good thing is, I have my transcripts evaluated already by Josef Silny and I have all the prerequisites they want already YAY!!! Does sound like a plan. I hope it works out well? Can I PM you for more info? Thanks.
  22. How is it going bamiwife06? I was able to pull an A in A&P with an overall grade of 98% in Lecture & 101% in Lab. I registered for A&P2 this fall and ENGL 1102, but felt I should have taken Micro over the summer instead of Chemistry... It's sad that I won't be applying to GTC this year since I did not take Micro. Made up my mind this August that I won't be going to Emory anymore even though I have almost all the prereqs ready (why pay over 70-100k for a degree I can get for 5k?). Planning on getting preggo with baby #3 this fall (because I won't be able to do that when I get into nursing school), while I take A&P2, 1102, and if possible take the TEASV exam, and apply into a BSN program hopefully. Happy I'm still on a 4.0 and looking to maintain it through this weird schedule of mine. Grrrrrh! However, I love Gwinnett Tech... I don't know if to proceed with my schedule but without the TEAS exam, take some nursing classes during my spare time in 2015, and look forward to applying towards the fall of 2016? It does sound too far right? I'm actually confused now. Will appreciate any suggestion out there. HELP!?????
  23. 98% in lecture (1470 points out of 1500) and 101% in Lab (1010 points over 1000 points) My school is on a point-based system for A&P Two weeks break and taking Chemistry this summer. There were only three A's in Lecture and Two A's in lab. So happy I am one of them. It was tough. From 60 students (merged class) to 18 students. My little boy was only two months when I registered for A&P, I was also exclusively breastfeeding in the process... It was a lot of work, but it happened to be one of the classes I enjoyed the most.
  24. I'm sorry if my question is totally off the thread... I have this dilemma of finding a GPC student that can answer my question(s). I have tried calling the school on several occasion, but for some reasons the system ends up not connecting me to a live operator. I am currently taking my prerequisites at GTC, but would like to take the survey of chemistry sequence (CHEM 1151 & 1152), which isn't offered here at Gwinnett Tech. Is it possible to be enrolled for these classes in GPC, while still in GTC? If yes, how can I go about this? and If no, do I have to finish my prerequisites at GTC before applying to GPC? I'll appreciate a response to take me off this dilemma. Thanks. ✌️
