  1. The best part about being a CNA idk where to start. I love doing what I do and I can't wait for more responsibility once I become a nurse. I love my residents, they make me smile constantly, I love making them smile, I love a majority of my coworkers because they are hilarious and make working night shift so much better (nurses included) I love where I work although some things about this job annoy the crap out of me hmmmmm I could go on but I think I hit the important points
  2. The low pay for the amount of work that we're doing. I'm still in school and getting ready to start nursing school. I'm struggling to pay my bills as is and the stress of this job does not help.
  3. Usually it's the ones that are the most mouthy that get so set in their ways that they make frequent mistakes. I just started a job and the girl who orientated me is a mouthy little thing that irks the entire hell out of my nerves apparently she thought that she could talk to me a certain kind of way and get away with it because she thought I was quiet and couldn't stand on my own. Her mistake. I let her have it the first time she tried to get into it with me. She's left me alone ever since. I don't deal with bullies in any way at all. I'm just as mouthy if not more seeing as I have a ton of stuff on my plate already and I don't need her adding to my stress. Anyways I say that to say this. Don't worry about how others tend to approach you with their attitudes they do it because they believe they can. Stand on your own two feet and let them have it the same way they dish it out. If they believe they can run over you they will so don't let them.
  4. Idk how many days of orientation I was supposed to get before I got thrown to the wolves however I know that I worked one day and got orientated to my floor (its mostly rehab but a few LTC's about 23 pts on average) and then the next night I came in I was sent to work on a complete LTC hall it was awful. Third night I came in I asked to have my own group of pts. The following week I was forced to work the entire floor by myself for one night because of a call out and this is my first CNA job lol
  5. Lol we have to wear navy blue scrubs to work and as hot as it gets here in sc this is no picnic by any means. These scrubs draw heat and the ac is always and forever broken here ?. I'm looking forward to starting nursing school hopefully in January if not then august and being able to wear white scrubs yayyyyy!!!! As far as the charting goes ours sucks too. We have to use these stupid kiosk and when these hallways are hot it's painful. But i don't mind it too much since I work night shift and my lovely residents usually sleep ?
  6. You're def going to need a laptop. I'm in the process of looking for one myself. I'd love to own a MacBook and if I can before i start nursing school I'm definitely going for it. I was also looking at Hp as well. Check with the computer websites most offer student discounts so yayyy!!!! Good luck!!!!
  7. Technically you really aren't supposed to do it but being the caring person you are I see why you did it. I've been tempted myself to do things like that too. However you should alert social services at your job as well as your nurse manager so that they can make arrangements to do something for him especially if he's in need. Being a caregiver with a heart as big as yours it's hard to choose how to go about situations like that. You want to do so much but you have to abide by the rules. It sucks sometimes
  8. Micro can definitely make you or break you. Flash cards, and taping lectures helped me a lot. Also study groups helped me too (make sure they're with the right people though) things will get better. I wish you the best of luck!!!
  9. Ha I'm a student, a CNA, an aunt, a daughter, a sister, a girlfriend, a church goer on a regular basis for my own sanity, and my list extends so much further lol. Idk where I've made any time for me at all lately
  10. I've been a CNA for a little over a month and I've already become used to the pain it doesn't even bother me anymore I work LTC and all my patients require lifting and turning of some sorts. I wear supportive shoes. I raise the beds to the appropriate height as to not hurt my back and I take my time. It's not worth the damage to your body. They don't pay us enough for this. I think that you should stretch before your shift and make sure if you are in pain to take your time. Good luck!!!
  11. Study your concepts. I know that I've had a tough micro teacher who made sure that we understood why this was happening instead of just knowing what's happening. Flash cards with diagrams help a lot. I also used the website that was listed in my book. It also helped that my teacher wrote the book lol.
  12. I used the book to study it was really helpful for reviewing word roots for vocabulary and reviewing sciences I hadn't seen since high school like physics and chemistry. I borrowed the book from a friend since I refused to pay $50 for a test that only intended on taking once (which I did yayyyy). So long story short yup get the book lol
  13. I didn't know I wanted to be a nurse until my junior year of high school. I had always wanted to work I the medical field. When I was 5 my mom was in nursing school and as she was studying I was studying right along with her. My dad was navy so he was always out to sea and whenever he did call I would always explain to him what I had learned with mommy that week. (I think his proudest moment was when I explained to him how the heart worked lol.) anyways moving forward I was in my high school a&p class and went on a field trip to speak to a group of students in elementary to speak about being an anesthesiologist (my dream job at the time) and I heard a class mate speaking about becoming a nurse. I never new how much of an impact they had on people's lives. ( I didn't go to the hospital much as a child) right then and there I completely changed my mind about what it was that I wanted to be. I shadowed nurses and went on field trips my last 2 years of high school (it was an amazing experience) And now I'm done with prereqs and I'm starting nursing school next year and I am one excited girl. I'm finally making my dream a reality and i can't wait.
  14. Thank you :)
