MSN Aspen?
I recently graduated from Aspen. Good school. Good dean and professional professors. Like any online program you get out what you put in. Overall i felt the buisness model works well. I am now a BSN.

Took NCLEX this morning
I passed! Yay!

Took NCLEX this morning
I took NCLEX this am as well. Got "good" pop up. Used NCLEX cram, Kaplin stratigies and lippencott flash cards. Had around 105 questions, and I know the last 5 I got correct. Hate the SATA, but liked the advice I saw on them, treat each option like a true false. So I asked my self on each choice, is this true for question situation or not. Hope that good pop up rings true.

CNAs who control LVNs and tell them what to do :(
Cna's always seem to be ignoring what the lpn tells them to do , the right thing is to figure out who the ring leader is and take them to task for any mis step they make. Do not ever let anyone tell you what to do , do not toloerate poor call bell answering practices , force your cnas to do ther job, afterall 10% of you job is to ensure cna tasks are done

"Easy" LPN jobs
I have had a few jobs in nursing and I would say that an A/L is the easiest followed by staff nurse. I now work as charge nuse on a 60 bed sub acute, this is hard. I love the days when a staff nurse calls out and I can just relax with only 20 pt, not all 60 plus family and doc and admin. When I worked A/L it is so simple but you do need to have the guts to make all decisions. my 2 cents

LPN Wages
IN NJ nursing homes pay the best with sub acute being the market to look into

Stand up if you're not in it for the money!
IN the end , we all have our bills to pay.. I choose to afford to support my family by being a nurse , I would not choose anything else, I also believe that anyone who says they are not in nursing for money are lying to themselves. I will never be paid enough for the good care I give my patients, bar none. just a thought

Advice about looking for a first job out of school
As LPN here in NJ the best pay is in LTC, however the best benifits by far are in VA (vets admin) hospitals and prisons. I know what is probally in your mind but with either of these safety is stressed, and they are stae or fedral jobs carring tuition reimbursement at 100% and 43 paid days off a year and pension plans which are gaurenteed by thr respective goverments. The prison from what I have seen and heard is very easy to work in and do a degree progam plus you always have a guard with you and never have to put yourself alone with an inmate. For what it is worht in this time in our country with so manny solders getting injured (perhaps the Bush twins should be inducted to the army then well have a time set to cease hostility but I digress) I am a believer that the VA really deserves a good look if there is a fcility in your area that is hiring. good luck to all I have passed the final final exam, will graduate july 27 took pn prdictor from ATI (got an 83 is this good?) Mike

to start LPN course any suggusted books
I bought barons anatomy and physiology and nclex-pn really easy the summe before starting school. I truly believe that the A+P book is vital to read before stating so when a system is covered in class you are ready for it. I also think that if you read any anatomy book before class it readys you for fundementals and phamocolgy. Good luck Mike

ATI Testing
I am in NJ in somerset county and we use ATI as a ajunct to our schools program. What happens is in your tuition is the fee for the ATI tests. THere are 9 non-proctored tests you can do over and over again. THere are also tests for MEd-suge I and II A&P , peds, pharm,OB and psyce. I used them before the finals and have done well in my couses (92.5 avg) We also take the tests as a class (proctored) then get the results after the finals. THe tests are very hard I usually get from 70-80 on them yet in school I do much better. If you school is using the ATI tests for grades they need to be a bit more creative in testing you on what you a taught and what you need for the nclex. good luck NEF

23 mother of 2..don't know if should be RN or LPN?
Consider this , a LPN here in NJ has one year to goto RN as long as you have an 85 or better average right out of school or 5 years on the job. Many LPN's go the route of PN first because the experience you gain is not teachable in the classroom. Think about it, you will have preformed and used many skills long before they are utilized by fellow RN students. You also will have practical in the work arena information that the others in the class will not. In term of wages instead of RN new grad you are RN new lic. with LPN experience = higher wages !!!! I also believe that with 2 kids a house to keep and schooll will be a fast track to burn out, not good!! In my talking to many RM students , they all agree that 2.5-3 years is more practical time frame than just 2 years but with LPN you can really only do 2 years and come out with a more relaxed disposition and better wages to boot.

Comment about LPNs made by clinical instructor
I don't know about other states but my 2cents is that as a PN student I am able to clincally run circles around any RN student I have come in contact with. Perhaps this is because we spend so much more time in clinical setting as opposed to the RN student in cthe class room. Our program started at 50 students we now have 29, it is tough and demanding but the insructors are fair. If any instructor made such an ignorant comment about a whole group of nurses she should be fired. It is as infammatory as a racial comment. I have had discussions with Doctors in a forum with both LPN and RN students and heard the Doctors say that the PN students were better informed. As to the facility who doesn't want PN studentd they should not wast the time of the scool and the school should find someplace else. My 2 cents Mike proud to be a future LPN
