  1. The job market in my town is VERY saturated. It's extremely difficult for new grads to get hired, so I didn't feel like I was in a position to go in requesting higher pay. And, like I said, having been living on loans and part time jobs for years, I am super excited to be getting any kind of decent pay check! Thanks again for all the replies!
  2. I was just offered two new grad positions at Mount Carmel (one at East and one at West). I accepted one and turned down the other, but from what I understood it sounded like both units were still hiring new grads. Search for 'New Grad' on their online application feature and the positions should come up. Good luck!
  3. I interviewed there as a new grad and never got a reply. I have since been offered a position elsewhere so I haven't investigated it further, but the nurse manager who interviewed me told me they were going to start a New Grad Internship program "soon." She didn't have details but that was in November so it may be more developed now.
  4. I just accepted a position at Mount Carmel East in Columbus in one of their new grad positions. I think East and West may still be hiring new grads. If you apply online you can do a specific search for "New Grad" to find the positions. Starting wage of $23.15 before differentials. Good luck!
  5. Good for you for making this happen! Awesome work! I just wanted to say that I agree with your point about making your resume only one page. I was applying for dozens of positions with a 2 page resume because I thought it showed a had a ton of experience. After having absolutely no luck, I reduced it to one page with only the very minimum, relavent information. I had three interviews scheduled in a week. :) Congrats again!
  6. Great info, thanks again!
  7. Thanks for the info! And I don't really need more money than this. I'm young, single, and don't have kids. I was simply curious. Thanks again! :)
  8. Hello! I am a new grad RN and was recently offered my first job (yay!) and I start orientation next week. I am located in a large, Midwest city with a competitive healthcare/nursing job market. I was hired as a staff RN on a 40(ish) bed Medical Intermediate Care Unit (similar to a Progressive Care Unit). I am starting on day shift (12 hr shifts) at $23.15/hr. Having been a poor student for so long I am totally happy with this wage and have no intent of trying to negotiate but am just curious what the typical schedule is for wage increases? Is it usually based on time worked at the organization or on performance? Also, are hospitals usually upfront with their raise policies or do they make you take a 'wait and see' approach? Like I said, I am so thankful to have been offered a job and am totally content with the starting pay rate. I'm just trying to plan short- and long-term budgets and would like to have a ballpark idea. Any other tips for a new grad's first job would be great, too! Thanks!!
