Just so your aware. I'm actually in the last semester of the LPN to RN program at Seminole. Unfortunately, we were the last class accepted for the transition program since they have discontinued it. So Its either the generic program or concurrent BSN program. I did the Valencia program for a few weeks and had to drop out due to family crisis, but when comparing the 2 programs, hands down, Im glad I did Seminoles. Valencia was top heavy with a LOT of busy work and instructors are kind of hardcore. Seminole is a little more forgiving since they understand you have jobs and families and I love most of the professors there. So far a great experience. They want to see you graduate. Good luck with your future endeavors.

It will be very vigorous! I went through about a month of it last spring and had no choice but to drop out to take care of my son's health issues that were flaring up. The first semester is literally an 8 credit course you are expected to finish in 8 weeks. Then it's OB/peds rotation. The whole program is 11 months and very intense. The professor who leads the first semester is no joke either. She expects you to know your stuff and has little tolerance for anything less. When I decided to go back, I decided on Seminole instead. It's spaced out a little better and lots of positive feedback about the professors. It seems a little more user friendly and they care and want you to do well. They even provide resources and tutoring as well. I start May 12. Every program is different and for some, they may not mind the rigorous speed of Valencias program. I've decided on Seminoles after a lot of research and feedback. Needless to say, during orientation, I felt a good feeling about my choice..I know it will still a lot of work, but it's great to know that the professors seem to be on the students side. Good luck!

I know they will only have the generic program and the concurrent BSN program they have with UCF. So after this class, an LPN will need to apply for either of those programs. They will also be phasing out their vocational programs as well as their LPN program. I think that is what your asking?

Usually nurse recruiters work in the HR department or at least along side them, any hospital I've ever worked for they've always been apart of HR.

Just a quick story here. My girlfriend graduated from an RN program in 2008. Looked for a job for 2 years! Placed online apps all over the place. Finally landed a job by walking in to HR of a hospital, asked for the nurse recruiter and handed her a paper resume. She got a call from a nurse manager 2 days later from the step down cardiac unit there. Has been there ever since!

Well, most traditional generic RN programs do have a waiting list so I see why you are considering the route you are. I know the two colleges in my area ha e a 2 year waiting list at the very least. If you can go for your LVN first and you want to stay in the acute care setting as a CNA, that would sound sensible while going for your RN. Whatever you decide, good luck!

I definitely get where you are coming from. I graduated from LPN school in 1992 when I was 20. I'm 42 now and will be starting back in a bridge program in May. I'm nervous as well. My husband travels for his job, I work full time as well and have a 14 year old. I know it will be a lot of busy work but hoping for great instructors. I know that makes all the difference sometimes! At least you will have help with the kids which is great. My coworkers who used to be LPNs and are now RNs have been very supportive. They constantly remind me of the nice pay increase for doing the same job they do essentially. I know.it seems daunting but I even have to remind myself that each day that passes in program is one day closer to my RN. You can do it!! Good luck!!

Yes, it seems a little misleading by them saying that. It's .more like they give those two things priority IF you meet the other requirements for admission. So sorry about your frustration. I can't imagine what your feeling. Well, at least you have an alternate spot. I have a friend who graduated from Valencia and they had 4 alternates when they started and they were all called for a spot because of people backing out at the last minute. So you never know.

Sorry to hear it. If they are asking you to verify your work experience, then maybe they are trying to figure out if you have bedside nursing experience. I know the RT's, Paramedics have to verify they are competent with bedside skills by having to fill out a separate packet and signed off by someone verifying they are competent with those skills. I finished micro in 2012 and that was my last prereq. That was required. I've taken a couple more classes since then that I know I will need for my bsn. I'm not sure what they look at exactly when considering candidates. It sounds like you had all your ducks in a row outside of your work experience. Good luck! Maybe you'll get a seat anyway!

I got my email as well and got in to start in May! I'm excited as well as feeling apprehensive about the busy year ahead since I'm trying to stay working full-time as well. Hopefully it won't be to bad since I work 3- 12 hour shifts a week. Congrats!!

I know this thread is old, but did you finally get in to Seminole's Transition program? I'm going to an info session later this month and was wondering if they had the program up and running last year. I'm planning on applying for next summer 2014. Good luck with everything!

Hello! Has anyone out there been through or going through Seminole State's LPN to RN transition program here in FL ? I just wanted to get an idea of the workload, instructors and how many days a week you are actually in class/clinicals. I'm going to an information session next month but was curious as to what to expect since I also have a family, full-time job, etc. Thanks for any input!
