Did everyone else get an email today confirming receipt of their application? It says, "We will notify you of your admission decision by email, before registration opens in early December (tentative). " December! That's a long wait.

Hey mmmcoffay! Are you giving up your seat at SMU also? I've always been a little back and forth on the SMU program because I have three kids, they're ages 3-9 and I was afraid I just couldn't keep things together at home while taking on an accelerated program. But my husband had been working remotely from home for a long time and was here to help pick up kids from school and stuff so I thought we could make it work. But in between applying to SMU and being accepted my husband took a job in the BA and is now commuting back and forth. So, unless I hire a full time nanny (that I wouldn't be able to afford because, $65000 for nursing school) there's just no way. I'm pretty bummed, I really felt like that program was a good fit for me and though I knew it would be a hellish year, it's just one year. So I'm applying to Sac even though I know my chances are low due to an ancient bad stats grade and not as good as I could have done TEAS score, and I'm also applying to ARC. Though I really would rather do a BSN if I'm going to put in the time. I'll see, if I don't get in this time around I'll retake the TEAS with more time to study and apply everywhere again for fall. I'm a second bachelor's, so not a current student or transfer. I doubt I'll get in, but I'm not going to accept my spot at SMU so applying everywhere else.

Sure - Science GPA 3.76 GPA for other pre reqs 4.0 TEAS 90.7 I can't remember which GPA SMU is most interested in, or which classes they tally it from. Everyone should definitely check junk mail, mine was sorted into the promotions tab on my gmail where all of the Old Navy and Groupon emails go. :)

I used this: https://allnurses.com/teas-exam-help/how-i-passed-804222.html and the ATI manual. The thread I linked to is incredibly helpful. My score was 90.7. I feel like I could have done better but I had 9 days to study and I didn't study the language part at all. My score probably would have a been a bit higher if I'd taken time to go online and review some basic rules of grammar. Instead I focused on math, because it had been like 17 years since I took an algebra class, and science. Wish I had had more time to study the science portion as that was the toughest section. I scored much lower on the online practice tests than I did on the actual test, so I wouldn't worry too much about your practice test score. If you can get your practice tests into the 80's you'll probably hit 90 on the actual test. Good luck!

No, you won't need to know specific equations, though in the math section you need to know PEDMAS and FOIL. I felt the science section was a bit heavy in chem. A lot of stuff about the periodic table, valence electrons, etc. States of matter, potential and kinetic energy. Know how to balance a chemical equation. There was some stuff on acids and bases. There is some life science also, review punnett squares, photosynthesis, DNA translation and transcription. The thing is, you don't need to much depth, but the subject matter covered is very broad. You should definitely check out rainbowvahmet's post, it is incredibly detailed and helpful. And buy the ATI manual. Good luck!

For the love. Good teachers are good teachers and bad teachers are bad teachers. Has nothing to do with - as you put it - being foreign or American. The best instructors I've had in my pre reqs have had accents. You might want to take a long, hard look at where that perception is coming from because when you are dealing with patients many of them will be "foreign."

I had nine days to study once I finished up my spring finals, so I'm pretty happy with this result. The program rankings aren't accurate because I took the test at a J.C. that I'm not applying to. You can't wait and take the TEAS until after you take A&P? I'm deep in TEAS studying now and from the study guides/practice exams I don't know how much help a general bio class will be, but it seems heavy in Chem.

I know! I'm taking the TEAS in 9 days and I've taken Chem, Micro and Anatomy all pretty recently, so not super worried, but if I get a ton of physics questions I'll be in trouble.

That payment seems really high to me, even at the loan amount you have. I would check into federal student loan consolidation, you should be able to consolidate down into a lower monthly payment. I don't know, this seems a little harsh. Now we know husband travels for work A LOT. SO she's already home with the kids alone a ton. Her plan is to take the kids with her, her mom is really supportive, so she wouldn't be away from the kids that much, just husband. Also, 2 hours isn't that far to drive. I can see now why she would be torn. My husband and I went through a period of time where he moved to Austin for a job and I stayed in California with my kids. We moved in with my parents for months. It was tough but we made it work. I followed my husband and waited around for years for his work situation to stabilize before going back to school, so I can see where she is coming from. You're telling her to review her wedding vows but maybe husband needs to do that as well.

I'm 38, my littles are 9, 7 and 3. I am just about done with pre-reqs and (fingers and TEAS scores crossed) will start nursing school Spring '14. Time is still on your side. You're asking for advice so here it is: keep applying to your local schools. One of the cycles will work out for you. Some of the ADN programs where I live see applicants go through 5-7 cycles before admittance. In the meantime volunteer or use your hard earned prior degrees to find a job in a hospital - which will only help you when you are applying for nursing jobs after graduation. Don't give up, allow the situation to work itself out. But please don't think you are running out of time.
