  1. I would have given student three a break. As a current student I would rather make up a day of clinical because I needed to pass a course and had to have study time then to have spent a semester wasting a preceptors time because I did poorly on a test. I have been told that I do really well in the clinical setting but I have horrible scores on my test's. Its not that I don't study or know information its that I test poorly. Should #3 have known that this was not acceptable for your after having spent many days with you? Maybe but maybe not. Also he was honest with you and could have just lied with a family emergency and you would have never known the difference. As for a previous poster that stated that test schedules come out at the beginning of the semester yes they do but I had my instructor change all of our dates all semester long. It made for a very stressful semester that I have no desire to repeat. Your student likely weighed the benefit of one hours worth of clinical learning versus the 4 or 5 hours of study time and what would help him most in the semester.
  2. I was in the online program and switched. I think that the material is covered more adequately in class and there is less work. Not to say that you learn less but for example in online assessment you take a lot of hours to make and upload videos. Those items you do in class and it takes less time. You get immediate feed back to correct things and have an instructor there with you. Besides the further you get into the program the less actual class time you have. But in answer to OP you can apply for a post masters certificate.
  3. To me its not unreasonable. You could get a name your price hotel and do 2 clinics days per week, staying over night there. I live in Wichita falls and drive to Arlington which is 2 to 2.5 hours just for class.
  4. They only place for psychiatric clinicals for psych management.
  5. I would recommend the on campus program just not the online portion. The on campus program is really good. I feel like I have learned so much more this semester going to class.
  6. After having a hard time trying to pass assessment I switched to the on campus option. When I did this and had to retake the same class due to dropping it the first time I did notice that tuition for that class was $1000 more. It was a 4 hour class.
  7. I am as well. If they can get blackboard to work. I got an email that it was not working....again. They need to use a system that works.
  8. You can either do two classes or one at a time. I am only doing one at a time as I work full time and have 3 kids. The classes continue to be either 5 or 10 week courses. They do not cut you any slack on the amount of information that you must know. If you look on the uta website for the college of nursing you should be able to look up most of the syllabus online. I just finished pharmacology and would have been hard pressed to do that class with another. You had to read a minimum of 90 pages a week but most times it was 150. You also had two discussion board post a week, with sources, a case study or a Rx module to complete. And there was either a weekly quiz or major test.
  9. I know that the on campus family and psych program require multiple visits per class. I have a friend in the on campus psych program and she is there at least every other week. At this time they only have the family as an online program.
  10. I am currently in the online FNP program at UTA and will only have one clinical check off day in the entire program.
  11. I obtained my BSN with UTA as well and this program is much more time intensive. A couple of the classes you could take together but I would definately not take patho with anything else. If you want to have an idea of what some of the class load looks like pm me your email and I will send you the syllabus for pharm that I just completed. And the camera is because you have to be recorded for your exams.
  12. I thought that pharm was much easier and my grade reflected it by about 10 points. But I will say that the book was a lot better. Are you in assessment next Texasrn53?
  13. Oh you will also need a web camera and a desj top tripod to take your test with. They recommend the logitech c920. It has to be a 1080p camera but not the logitech one.
  14. I thought the class was horrible. While I know that the content is hard, as it should be, I felt that he did little to no guidance. I asked for help and got told "its graduate school, its supposed to be hard." I will say that he curves the test and the quizes. I had 30 points added to each test that I took. I do believe that around 1/3 of the class dropped. I think that a lot of the problem is the book that he picked. It is horrible and is not reader friendly. He also doesn't lecture. He links you tube videos from other people. All of this test/quizes are based on the cellular level. There is a facebook group that is private if you search for UTA.
  15. UTA has both an online and an on campus program for the fnp program. The online does have one clinical day required after a certain point in the program. It is also completed throught the academic partnership program that your BSN is currently completed through. The only thing that I am not sure on is whether or not they have opened the program up to residents from states other than texas.
  16. I am currently in an online FNP program. I have considered switching to PMHNP but can not decide what to do. I am okay with either and feel if I get burned out after several years of practice that I could always do a post masters certificate to obtain the other one. In the area that I live in the FNP salary is around $80,000 a year and the Psych salary is around $105,000 a year. I currently work as an RN at an inpatient psychiatric setting so the disease processes and treatments are familiar to me. If anyone has any insight as to why they picked one over the other I would love to hear about it. Thanks.
  17. I know that I read it somewhere but I can not remember where. I would aim at making as many A's as you can so if you do make a c it will weigh less later on.
  18. any 1080p camera will work but they recommend the logitech c920 1080p. You also have to have a small desk top tri pod as you can not stick it on your computer.
  19. You have to maintain a 3.0 in the program over all and I want to say that there are 2 classes that you are not allowed to make a c in at all in order to progress.
  20. there is a uta graduate nursing page that is comprised of the online and traditional students. Also you can look up most of the syllubus' on the college of nursing page to see what the past assignments have been. It is really busy and there is a ton of reading
  21. When turning in assignments make sure that you look at the grading rubric. It has exactly what is required to make a good grade. Sometimes the instructions are a bit vague but the rubric is detailed.
  22. It is a state requirement for the basic classes on any four year degree in texas. I had to have comp 1 and 2, algebra and statistics. While I didn't think that any of the classes were overly challenging in regards to knowledge content they do require quite a bit of time. If you are not a strong independent student I would look at only taking one class at a time. This will make you be part time as the RN classes are either 5 or 10 weeks and the basic classes are 8 weeks. I worked full time with three children while going to school but I also work night shift and have a lot of down time to study. While it is online they require the same knowledge learing for the those students as compared to traditional students that attend the university and sit in class. They don't dumb it down at all. as for the classes you have a professor and then you are assigned a coach. The coach is your first go to and grades all of your assignments. You can ask questions of them first and if they don't know they will ask the professor. All assignments have a grading rubric that tells the point breakdown of the work to be completed. If you follow the rubric you should have a fairly decent grade. Any emails are usually answered within 24 hours or less. As for not having to take all of the basics that are required for a 4 year degree it will depend upon what the state that the school is in mandates. Here you have to have a certain number of hours with certain requirements for any 4 year degree. I didn't really look at any other colleges after I found UTA and just went here. I am completing my MSN FNP currently. You might look at texas tech or texas womens university as they both have an online adn to bsn program but they will have the same basic requirements.
  23. you guys might also pm Dude, rn who has a thread down the page. He just finished with the program.
  24. There are a couple of threads on the uta page on the online university section if you want to go over there.
  25. I took the core classes first and am now starting the fnp online program classes. Advanced patho in September. I got ahold of a copy of the syllabus from the last class and it looks busy. I have either a test or quiz weekly. Discussion board with references weekly. A power point presentation and some kind of case evaluations weekly. I can't imagine trying to do that with another class and work. I am doing the plan with one class at a time. I didn't want to fail. 83 is the new b and since you have to maintain a 3.0 gpa I was being cautious. There is another thread that has some info with people from the program further down.
