  1. Hello, I am 34 will be 35 on September 15th and I am barely starting on my pre-reqs. I am thinking about getting into the LVN program in Fresno, Ca and working my way up to an RN. I plan on doing my CNA class soon so I can work and gain some experience while taking my pre-reqs. I'm kinda taking it slow and only taking 2 classes at a time since I have 6 kids and really want to focus on my classes to keep good grades, and also because Math and Science are my very weak subjects. But I'm determined to get through these classes. I love this thread, as I have always been anxious about pursuing my dream of becoming a Nurse at my age. So this is a very motivating and inspirational thread for me. Thanks all!
  2. I was always so anxious to get into the Nursing program because I felt like by the time I get in, I will be too old. I will be 35 next month and after reading all these posts I feel a lot more motivated and careless about my age. It's true that age is just a number. I'm barely starting my prerequisites so I might be 40 by the time I get in since I will possibly be on a waiting list for awhile, and not going full time as I have 6 kids to take care of. But that's ok, I will be even more ready to start the journey. Now I am not so worried about my age when I become a Nurse. As long as my dream is fulfilled and I get to help people in their time of need that's all that matters and I will be happy with that!
  3. RedHeaded2bNurse16 Your post was inspiring to me. I have been trying to figure out if I will be able to work while I am in the LVN program. I definitely need the income since I have 6 children. How do you manage school, kids, and especially 2 jobs? I am not a single mother but we need a second income since my husband is disabled and doesn't work at this time. I need some advice. Thanks.
  4. As a Certified Medical Assistant, I cannot make up my mind if I should do the LVN program first then bridge to RN, or just go straight to the RN program? I was thinking that if I go to LVN first, I will have a lot of knowledge and nursing experience that will make RN school a little easier. Or what if I did MA to CNA to RN? I am really having a hard time deciding which route to go. On a side note, I am also getting old and don't have too much time to waste. I am anxious to get into Nursing but want to go into it smoothly with experience. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. :)
  5. I have always thought about; how do Nurses not cry their eyes out when a patient dies? Especially babies and kids? That's one thing that I will have a hard time with because I will probably ended up getting fired because I will end up crying with the patients' family. How do you hold it together? I'm very sensitive and caring for people's feelings. Just seeing people sad and hurting makes me cry.
  6. Personally I like to print out the power point notes and make my own little notes on the power points, rather than writing all the power points out. But printing does take a lot of ink and paper=$$. Although I haven't taken A&P yet, that's what I like to do for all of my classes that have power point notes.
  7. Yeah that's true huh. I guess me being so worried about killing someone, that will make me even more cautious and do my job more carefully. That's a good way to look at it. It would probably make us better nurses since we are taking our time and doing things right, not carelessly taking care of our patients. :) I just get nervous in time of emergency trauma and stuff like that. Yikes!
  8. violetgirl, As of right now, I'm just taking Math since I suck at it and it has been holding me up also. No I don't work at all right now but I do have 6 kids. My husband is very supportive and lets me go study and do what I need to do whenever I need to so that is a great help. I was thinking of doing a CNA program too. I also really want to look into shadowing a Nurse for a day. That would really help me a lot. When I start my science class, I'm going straight to the front lol. Thanks for all the study tips. I can't wait to get started.
  9. Thanks guys you have encouraged me a lot. I also have a fear of making a mistake and someone's life is endangered because I missed or forgot to do something. That is something that is holding me back with my Nursing dream too. Do you guys ever think about that or am I just being paranoid and letting fear take over me? Or maybe I have just been watching too much "Grey's Anatomy" lately lol. I have an issue with fear always interfering with what I want/need to do. I wish I could make it go away, it's really annoying and frustrating.
  10. Hello, I have a question that is rather stupid but is constantly bothering me. I want to be a Nurse so badly but Science and Math have always been my worst subjects. I have a really hard time comprehending Biology, and Chemistry( it's like a foreign language to me). Does that mean I won't be able to become a Nurse? Can I learn this material or is it way out of my league? Am I just living a fantasy of becoming a Nurse since it's all about science and math? This is my biggest fear that I won't be able to pursue my goals and dreams. Any tips on learning these subjects? Any other people pass these classes that have a hard time in them? I know I'm just rambling on lol Fear has always prevented me from fulfilling my dreams. I'm trying to get over this.
  11. Congratulations! You're a very inspiring person. I'm 34 barely starting pre-reqs and will be 38 or 39 if I pass all my classes the first time, when I graduate from my ADN program. You're Awesome!! This reply was supposed to go to Stcroix.
  12. I really want to work in Labor and Delivery. I was also thinking about being a Psychiatric Nurse. Those are the two areas that fascinate me the most.
  13. Hi, I'm going to be taking pre-reqs soon and I was wondering, do any of you work full time while going to school with these full schedules that look frightening? lol
