  1. hi hawaii RN here from philippines too...according to my friends, actually two of them who are based from nevada now but originally from cali took different paths, they needed to move to NV d/t concurrency issues, my one friend got denied from BON cali, so she has to move to NV bc she doesn't want to take MS and OB classes again (u know the burden, can't blame lol) BON NV required her to do the evaluation by CGFNS and toefl which took her long time until now (still on the process). my other friend who happened to be my batchmate didn't waste his time either in applying to BON cali and part of it is d/t my influence/advices since i took nclex here in hawaii and process everything a year ahead of him, i advised him to apply here for now since requirements doesn't entail so much and so he can take the exam right away (he's sched'd to take his nclex this month btw). I and him checked the endorsement process from HI to NV and same requirements is being asked, that he is required to take toefl regardless his status as citizen. But i also read this one article but can't remember what site specifically that is. it says in there that you can only be exempted in taking toefl if you already have 5 yrs of RN experience working here in the US (applies to those states that doesn't require toefl like HI for instance). hope this helps. :)
  2. hi kabayan, i took my exam last march 2014, i graduated too in the phil in year 2013, i utilized saunders 5th ed the yellow book, read the entire book and know the content then do all the practice questions in there most especially the SATA type of questions. i also used kaplan 2008-2009 ed (bought in recto manila for 500php ), it will teach you how to strategize on selecting answers and how to eliminate , but that would only be your last resort tho, it'd be safer if you know the content so you can rationalize on your own during the test proper. goodluck kabayan! :)
  3. hi fellow RNs, just passed my nclex last yr 2014 march and by the way i'm from Hawaii. Right after i pass my nclex-rn exam, i was so eager to look for a job (Hospital job if possible) but amongst all the applications i sent, all i got is rejection letters, not to mention even with CNA and tech for that matter, can't blame i'm a newbie and the job market here is undeniably tough, so yeah as fallback, i did applied at SNF/LTC. Month and a half later i got a callback and got hired to a nearby Nursing&Rehab here in my area and to cut it short been working there for almost 8 months now. tho it's not i really wanted i took the offer, well instead of sitting around. but right now, i'm on the verge of i feel lazy sometimes going at work, and i'm kinda starting to hate the routinary job, i felt like of a less of a nurse, but don't get me wrong with that, it was a good start for me, i learned a lot since i'm also a foreign graduate BSN-RN, but i just don't find myself to be working in a facility, i felt like i aint gonna grow as a nurse i wanted to be since the knowledge you apply is somewhat limited. I haven't tried submitting resumes since i got this job, some told me this experience i have won't give me any bearing to land a job in the hospital since it's not counted as acute experience (tho our facility does cater few days post-op and others.). Now i'm also caught in between if will i go search out of state jobs, or try to apply again to any of the hospitals here which includes CNA/clerk/tech just to get my foot in the door. Any suggestions?? :) BIG MAHALO fellow RNs! HAPPY NEW YEAR TO US!!
  4. keep your head up!!just a little bit of patience plus "more" hard work, you've sacrificed a lot with this exam already..and even tho you failed this time doesn't mean your game is OVER! you got this sir! best wishes for 2015!! :)
  5. that calls for a celebration!!! cheers to the new RN!! (took mine on march for the first time, and yeah felt terribly bad when i walked out of the room post exam.. and yeah had to wait 6 hours until i was able to do the PVT (longest 6 hours of my life) d/t technical problems of the site, maintenance probably, but thank god right then when i did the PVT, i got a good pop-up!! did it several times and i'm getting the same.. and true enough, after 48 hours, did the quick count and yup officially i found out that i hit the mark "PASS"! congrats again!! Job well done!
  6. believe me,., i didn't join any review classes given myself 35 days to be exact to do self-review,., just dedication, time and a lot of effort can do,., i only utilized saunder's 5th ed for most part of my review,., and studied kaplan strategies (2008-2009 ed) and just answered 180 questions from that book,., i know it's really overwhelming on our part as "test-takers", that as much as possible we want use every book that we "heard" is the best and been using by the "majority", but it's not that, just use at least 2 references and stick to it., finish from cover to cover., in that way you won't be confuse in the end since every author of every book we are using sometimes differs... and you don't want that to happen during the actual boards.. best of luck!! and god bless ps.. in god's help,., i was able to pass on my first try.. and not for bragging since it's doesn't have to do or doesn't pull any bearing at all to become a nurse, i stopped at number 75... so don't forget to pray! it makes things a lot EASIER! :)
  7. just compose yourself and free it with tension., it takes a lot of effort to actually do that but as much as possible relax,. have a quick scan JUST FOR LABS,., and think before you sleep and after the exam that you PASS!!! best of luck!!:)
  8. hi,., first welcome to the US kabayan!! hmm,., try to call the BON in CALI and ask them about the requirements,. cause it varies per state,., i believe cali don't require CGFNS evaluation which my state does,. and as of now,. filipinos applying in CALI are having a hard time getting their test permits in that state due to that above mentioned issues like concurrency,., supposedly i'll be applying with BON CALI but i don't want to wait for long period of time like some of my friends did, that some of them until now are still in pending cases,., so i just applied in the other state (BON HI) for me., and it didn't took me long enough to sit before nclex.. passed mine last march of this year,. so in due time i might just apply for reciprocity in CALI..
  9. god bless!!! go get that two letters after your name "RN"!!!! :)
  10. vs saunders? i would rather go with saunders,. I'm an international student too,, took my nclex last march 15 and passed at my first try,, in my opinion, i believe kaplan will only teach you on how to "strategize" during exam, yes i did use it during the last phase of my review (2-3 days before my scheduled exam).. and i wouldn't recommend it as your primary source,. it's safer for you to know the concept which saunder's have,. and it's more easier to understand.. :)
  11. congrats kabayan!! pinoy pride! im a foreign grad too batch 2013 and yay i passed both my PNLE n Nclex too! cheers!:)
  12. that's the spirit @jollyskyrider DON'T GIVE UP!!! yes that RN is so soon!! just focus.. MAY GOD BLESS U! :)
  13. that's a good pop-up! had the same thing last march 15, 6 hours after i took my exam,. Congrats in advance!
  14. that means you passed! congrats!
