Any nurses working out BC can tell me how the job market is?
I get that I'd have access to the positions once accepted but was curious about how many hours I'd expect as casual. Is the market for nurses just oversaturated?

Any nurses working out BC can tell me how the job market is?
Looking seriously at moving out to be closer to family to BC(Chilliwack-Fraser Valley area) but im having a hell of a time getting a good grasp on what the job market is. Causal positions are listed, but beyond that I know nothing. Registered Nurse(BNRN) in Newfoundland, 2 years in long term care, 3 years as a full time float(primarily on a medical unit). Any input would be great!

Any idea how the nursing situation is in British Columbia?
5 years experience as a Registered Nurse, few years of long term care and several years in a acute medical unit out in Newfoundland. Debating making a move in the next year, and BC makes sense due to family in the area. Any experience/knowledge of how the market is? How the province is for nursing?

Accidental migration of PICC line (1-1.5cm)...
A new PICC line, changed the site that the line had migrated about 1-1.5 cm out from the exit site. Still prefect blood return. I was all thumbs and had a issue with the Cath secure. Advice? :/ (So about 2.5cm from proximal end of the wing)

After a few months off on forced medical leave, worried about losing my job after any slip
3 years as a RN, with my first 2 years in long term care, with me starting into Acute in the last year. I've been back to work for a few months, after being forced into medical leave for a few months. Initially this was until I had been medically assessed(assumed weeks) but came back showing moderately impaired memory/attention(moderate Depression, and un-dx ADHD) and what I expected was a short trip off work turned into a 3 months affair. Had hoped to work while going through this often-delayed process, but due to being in a probationary period there was nothing I/the union could do beyond work with my employers request. Since my return, my probationary period had been restarted from day 1 and ive been monitored. To be expected, as though medically cleared/medicated I did/do have these Truefully it stresses me out as I feel like i'm just be expected to screw up and..Just got a email as a feedback from a occurrence report from early Decemeber with a med error. Should I just assume i'm not cut out for this? I just expect that despite my good qualities(I work hard ,great patient rapport, work well with staff, etc) should I just take the hint and realize I cant cut acute care? I go to work feeling like all these past few months are just to justify me getting the boot. I apologize for the rant everyone.

how much do you pay on student loans per month
I had owed 50k$ when I finished, and was aggressively paying it off at 850$/month.(700 to bank loans, 150 to Feaderal student loans) Proved too much after I got a car/moved in the last year, so cut down to 500/month total. Had it down to 15$k. Nice little program for Canadians working in "rural" Canada(under 40,000 population)- can get 4000$ federal debt relief each year. (

Wear a Remembrance/Memorial Day poppy without stabbing yourself twenty times a shift
Very good! Well it works wonders. Survived 3 shifts without a single issue. Posted it on Facebook and all my nurse people love it.

Wear a Remembrance/Memorial Day poppy without stabbing yourself twenty times a shift
Ha-ha..well you work with alot of elderly, it can't help to show a little respect, even if your not overly patriotic. Didn't mean to come across as..well a ass.

Wear a Remembrance/Memorial Day poppy without stabbing yourself twenty times a shift
Not sure about the confusion.. If your organization still uses plastic cannula/needles , you just use the AG plug (IV access ) and stick one on the end of your Poppy..

Wear a Remembrance/Memorial Day poppy without stabbing yourself twenty times a shift
So those of us in the Commonwealth... Poppy season is in full swing for Remembrance Day is up.. Argon Plug plus Poppy..magic. (Most have gone needless but..)

Job interview later today..stressed!
So interview for a temp-full time float position in a few hours. I'm generally in a situation, working as a lone charge nurse(per shift) in a 44 bed long term care setting(lv 3/4 patients/PCU/Respite-palliative room). Although hired as a float nurse, I've had one chance a year ago to float to a medsurg unit, faced with some struggles, and was told we'd try again at a future date. That was about a year ago, and since then I just been given a date that been pushed back and back. Not personally happy living where I am, so I've decided to move. So applying for another health authority, with a telephone interview. I know they are badly in need of nurses but just feeling like i'm trapped without acute care experience. I do a solid-good job in my role within LTC. My Manager recently did my yearly appraisal(3.8/5), voiced no concerns and generally had positive things to say. But at the same time, had a interview for a different health authority and the response I got was.. "Thank you for your interest in an RN position with _________Health. We are not prepared to offer employment at this time but would welcome your interest in the future should you be able to acquire additional experience in acute care –medical/surgical units. Once you have successfully acquired 6 – 12 months of acute care experience we would welcome the opportunity to re-consider you for employment." (Province is broken up into 4 health boards) Answers like that, hard not to just feel trapped/discouraged. Any helpful words of wisdom? Been reading a few "Nursing interview questions/answers", writing out some notes too prepare but. https://allnurses.com/nursing-interview-help/how-answer-most-748905.html (Sorry for pretty rambled rant of a post)

How To Answer The Most Common Nursing Interview Questions
Second interview in month... First rejected with a response that I they would welcome me to reapply after gaining 6-12 months acute care experience. Kinda stuck in long term care position(charge RN, with level 3\4 residents) at the moment, in a small community where I'm simply not at all happy. Stressed. 2+ years experience, and feeling like I'm a disadvantage to even newgrads.

Considering a move to acute care from LTC..but confidence is simply shot
Thanks for the support, and sorry for the delay. I had planned on Rural nursing, a small town of ~10k. Lots of positions posted, was encouraged to apply... 5-6 applications/few months later-not a call/email. As a person who is confused at if its the small town life or the area of work that seriously causing me to lose confidence/feel depressed its a hard pill to swallow. Just going toss more applications at the wall. Had a positive experience on ortho during school so may focus on it- but any mire to a large center just terrifies me. I trained TNCC last year, and am lined up to do non-violent crisis intervention next month.

NEW GRAD JOB CRISIS!
The nursing home gig is a slippery slope. 2+ years experience as a charge nurse of a 40bed level 3.4 home. I have made great money, plenty of overtime... but now that i'm looking at moving on I am finding this "lack of acute care" experience a real downside. I desperately want to move to a different area(location rather then area of work) and I feel stuck. Seems every job posting lists "must have recent acute care experience" as a requirement. We do IV's, semi complex dressings(a few packings here and there), g-tube feedings, trach care... but its hard to move out of LTC. Its to the point that I am at a crossroads of debating I should stay in the area permanently. You kind of lose out on a compelling resume, and more importantly...your confidence. So you might get a job but as a person starting out its a tough pill to swallow.

Considering a move to acute care from LTC..but confidence is simply shot
I've been living ins rural area, working at the charge nurse at a LTC (40 bed/lvel 3/4) for past 2+years . I was actually hired as a float but have never been floated to the attached hospital and my attempts to do so have been just going no where. I'm in desperate need for a move to a new area(considering Halifax). I enjoy aspects of LTC, and do quite well there but I feel I am just not in love with the daily grind and considered that the long term role of registered nurses is on a major decline within that area of nursing. My big issue is, since coming out of nursing school and going right into LTC is that i've lost any confidence I might of have in my ability to work in acute care. I just don't know if I have what it takes at all. Any move to a acute care basis would come with a move to a new city, and i'm basically scared ******** that i'm going to start a position and just fall flat., Any advice /similar experiences?

Random-But considering a move..how are nurses in British Columbia finding it all?
Yeah seems to be the situation all around. Generally does not seem to be a great time to be a Nurse job wise. Was hoping BC/Vanc island just based on lifestyle wise I could be fairly content in the area for a few years.

Canadian Nurse looking at applying to another province-anyone have any experience?
I'm a Registered nurse who graduated back in 2012 working in Newfoundland. I've been looking at applying outside my province(BC/Alberta mainly) but just wondering if I should even bother with the process of getting a RN licence until I have a job offer. Anyone have any experience in the matter? Thanks:whistling:

Life decision-where to look to live/work next?
Short & sweet version: 27 year old single guy working as a Registered Nurse for last 2 years in long term care. I've been working/living in a small town but my entire social circle here is moving/going in every direction over the next 6 months/combine a general desire to move back to the city come the fall. Only real City where I have a large concentration of friends/family is all but a dead zone for nursing work so left kinda rolling the dice on a new spot-might have a odd friend or two but otherwise going in with no connections. How do you even start to try & decide where to move? Was looking at Halifax/Calgary but simply no idea where to start... (Canada only-hurray for regionally locked licence required professions) Long... Not sure where to go-how to go about deciding where to move in the fall. A odd & super broad question but basically I need to try & wrap my head around where apply for work & move in the near future and simply have next to no idea how to go about it. I currently am a 2 year grad working in LTC(level 3/4 ~45 patients) with some higher end nursing care(IV's/Trachs/packings/etc), with me working in a potion as charge nurse. Great experience in some ways, though a little fearful of the jump i'll have jumping back to acute care. Moving more so just due to basically due to my entire social circle in this town moving in the next few months... The only city where I have a good number friends/family that I would have interest in is a complete dead area for nursing jobs for past year. As a single 27 year guy, I have nothing really tieing me down or pushing or attempt to move to any one real city. So far just planning on putting in a intending to licence in a few provinces with looking at Calgary/Halifax But basically no idea where to try and find work/where to look to moving. Any general life advice? Sorry for this random line of questions but just lost at where to go from here.

New(ish) RN- Seeking possible online courses/ career suggestions/general advice
*warning-a little more on the life seeking/career advice end then I originally planned* In a few weeks I would have been a employed BN RN for 1 year- though with 90% of that experience coming from a long term care placemen. Its a 40 bed home for levels 3/4, with IVs done when needed(largely iv antibiotics), daily trach/dressing/G-tube care- as such its not a huge waste. I also have gained a good part of a year with being the charge nurse, with 75% of the time being the only RN on site. So some leadership skills, and general experience but i'm still lacking any real acute care with no real light at the end of the tunnel in that regards. I moved to this smaller town with a small hospital under the idea I would have a chance to gain experience/training but outside of my TNCC course its been kinda minimal. I'm wondering if I should look up some online critical care courses if I wish to move and go into an acute care position in the future. To be completely honest I plan on moving in the future but have no idea where, with no real cities with a huge amount of family/friends around. Kinda freaked about the idea of ablind move, only to find myself in an acute care position where I find myself over my head. In the fall i'm hoping to gain training with ACLS/medivac ambulance but thats far from 100%. So I kinda am fustracted- in the mean time I know I have taken a good 40% of my student loans off the books, and am hoping to be almost debt free by the time I am ready to move but... A little more of a rant but i'm finding myself fustracted being in my mid 20's, single, in a small town where I just don't believe I am gaining a ton in regards to the future in the profession. Thanks for any advice.

TNCC Course next weekend-freaking
Try that again. http://seabirdscientific.com/linked/trauma%20nursing%20practice%20test.pdf & very good. Spoke to a few people and most of them lack ER/ICU experience as well as not having read the book completely so feeling slightly more prepared.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5DUC1Lit08 http://seabirdscientific.com/linked/highlighted answer key trauma nursingpractice test.pdf Is that similar? to these? [COLOR=#3b5998]& guys....its a matter that I and several other people who would probably benefit more from this getting into the TNCC training simply could not/were not able to get someone to cover them. I have a friend in ICU who applied, but no one could cover his shift. Its unfortunate though that people in these areas were unable to go due to unable to have their shifts covered. As for ACLS, I applied for both training, but with them both being offered at the same time I was assigned TNCC & i'll just have to reapply to ACLS in the winter/spring/. Feeling far more confident overall. Still have some review ahead but we'll see how the classes treat my remaining doubts.

TNCC Course next weekend-freaking
My apologies. Just not sure what to expect regarding the exam. I have reviewed those sample skill exams just still somewhat worried as to what to expect. Are there additional sample questions available online? (just based on the 20 or so provided in the 6th ed) Thanks and again- any advice is much appreciated.

TNCC Course next weekend-freaking
Quite simply I'm early into my profession, and honestly am seeking as much additional training as I can have. I never choose long term care, as I was hired on as a full time float with the understanding that I would largely see time in medsurg shortly after- over 3 months months later i'm still waiting to transfer. I'm not sure which area I want to eventually focus on. I'm sorry if you feel i'm preventing others from receiving the training.
