  1. Teaching a 10 Minute Assessment

I teach at a large University in the College of Nursing. As I only have my BSN, I am only allowed to be a teaching assistant, which means I work at the direction of the faculty member. I primarily coordinate and set up all the labs and I coordinate, ...
  2. References with Discussion Boards

Does everything have to be proven as credible through a peer reviewed resource in a discussion? I understand a paper... But I am not even allowed to share my own experiences unless someone else had that same experience, researched it, and published i...
  3. GRE or MAT?

I am planning to apply to Case Western's post-master's DNP program. They just required satisfactory scores on the MAT or GRE. How do you decide what to take? I think I'm going to do horrible on either one. I have always dreaded the GRE. I made sure I...
  4. Path to DNP/PhD/EdD

So it is like a post-masters certificate? Or a "minor" as part of a MSN program?
  5. Planning to attend Hondros College OH

It doesn't change the fact that Hondros does NOT have regional accreditation and their LPN and ADN programs are NOT nationally accredited for nursing. Only their BSN program is CCNE accredited. Most MSN programs I looked into required both national ...
  6. New to AN and almost there!

Hi! I am new to allnurses.com. I just wanted to share my excitement that I am ALMOST THERE!! I have 1 homework assignment, 2 exams, and 6 clinicals left until I finish nursing school. I graduate in less than 2 months and I am showing as "pending" w...
  7. No more glucose checks by CNAs/PCTs

If the PCA uses the wrong size BP cuff, the result is going to be wrong. The nurse might pick up on it if the result is too low or too high but if the BP is actually high or low and the wrong cuff size is used, the result could incorrectly show up n...
  8. Where do NPs look for jobs?

My mother is a LPN at established and long standing allergy and asthma office. They're looking to hire an experience FNP or PA as soon as possible. However, we have no idea where to post the job opening to reach a large number of possible applicants...
  9. Where do NPs look for jobs?

I think they have a website, but not the type of website people actually go to. They're looking for one website for now -- essentially the one that'll gave them the most bang for their buck :)
  10. Help with career decision

I received a job offer to work in a family practice clinic that is associated with a hospital. The clinic is a residency training program so each year you get new residents who come through. The residents see the patients but confer with the attend...
  11. Questions about getting into cscc nursing program.

I would recommend getting a job as a PCA/PSA in a hospital throughout the program. It is difficult to get a job as an associate degree nurse in Columbus. The market is over saturated to begin with and Magnet stated that 80% of bedside nurses need a ...
  12. No more glucose checks by CNAs/PCTs

But the glucometer automatically uploads to the patient chart so it's not like the PCA can chart it wrong or tell the nurse wrong.... it's glucometer to chart. I don't see how this creates an issue? However, I always insist on doing the carb counts...
  13. Special Care Nursery

I am currently a RN working on an adult med/surg unit. My other experience was only as a PCA and was also adult only (cardiac step down and psych). I have come to learn that med/surg nursing is definitely not for me, but I am grateful for all I have...
  14. Career Advice

I worked as a clinical research data coordinator during nursing school (entering data into case report forms mostly). I worked closely with the research nurses so I have a pretty good idea of what the job entails. I currently am a bedside nurse - I h...
  15. Deciding how much solution to dilute a medication in

Yes. It still doesn't happen frequently but we got in trouble by Joint Commission over it.
  16. Deciding how much solution to dilute a medication in

You SHOULD have parameters if it says give 12.5mg-25mg of a medication. It should say to give 12.5mg for pain 5-7 and 25mg for pain 8-10, for example. If not, ask for them. If you make the call yourself, you are prescribing, at least in my state.
  17. New Grad BSN..looking for job in Columbus...There's Hope.

New Grad Residency is a national program. You can read about it here: https://www.uhc.edu/16807.htm. Numerous hospitals in the country participate in it; OSU is one of them. You can view participants by state here: https://www.uhc.edu/16807.htm It r...
  18. New Grad BSN..looking for job in Columbus...There's Hope.

Those monthly new grad classes you had to attend - that is residency. That's it. Just monthly classes for 4 hours that are a giant waste of your time. I don't do anything different than any other nurse here at OSU except waste my time 4 hours at a ...
  19. New Grad BSN..looking for job in Columbus...There's Hope.

No, not everyone goes through residency. But all new grads do. I was hired as a new grad outside of the residency and 2 months before the next residency was due to start. They still had to plug me into a slighter older residency - I missed the fir...
  20. New Grad BSN..looking for job in Columbus...There's Hope.

Any new grad hired as a Staff Nurse at OSU must go through residency. It's just a 4 hour meeting once a month.
  21. PNP with no peds experience

I currently work as a RN at a large academic medical center. The only pediatrics we have is NICU and psych. Having worked many years with adults (as a PCA and RN), I am realizing more and more that I don't particularly like adult patients and I have...
  22. FORTIS college columbus ohio?

    (1) I am an ADN prepared nurse - I graduated from CSCC (with no waiting list, by the way) (2) I work at Magnet hospital now only hiring BSN nurses and our nurse patient ratios are always 1:4 on med/surg, even on night shift I'm not saying I agree - I...
  23. FORTIS college columbus ohio?

Two years ago is not now. Two years ago the BSN only thing hadn't been started by Magnet. As someone who has worked at OhioHealth and OSU and having friends who work in HR - things have changed considerably from 2 years ago. The student experience ...
  24. FORTIS college columbus ohio?

Well then you are a rarity. I work at OSU and we only hire BSN. I have close friends who graduated from CSCC with a 3.8 GPA who have worked at OSU for several years and are currently in the RN-BSN program who cannot get hired. We even have numerou...
  25. I am a new graduate nurse (8 months experience). One aspect where I am struggling is communication with my staff members. I have received feedback that while I typically DO the right thing, I need to work on verbalizing it as I often go into a cert...
