To change or not to change
So I have a decent job working for a facility that cares for peoples with mental disablities. I love my residents but the job is not exciting in the least. I have an interview with a hospital in the ER but they use LVN's in a tech capacity which means I won't really be doing any nursing? Any LVN's out there work in an ER as a tech? Any imput on what I should do if offered the ER job?

Well so long Students!!
To be honest, I mostly did nclex questions using Sanders 4th edition cd. I would focus on the content that I was going over in my current class and I would make sure to read the rationales one every question right or wrong so I could make sure I knew the content other than that I didn't use any outside resource just text books and homemade flash cards my wife made ( we were in class together)

Well so long Students!!
Mainergal2000 I don't know how your school is set up but for me the toughest classes where peds and ob since they were just soo short ( about 4 weeks each) best advise I can give is to make sure you read ahead of time and don't fall behind.

Well so long Students!!
I took my NCLEX PN today and all indications are that I've passed!! I tried the pearsonvue re register trick and got the good pop up, now all that's left is for me to get my license number! So all you students just remember if I can do it so can you, keep your heads up and shoot for the stars.

Pregnant while in LVN program
My girlfriend and I got pregnant while we where in med sur 1 (our fourth class) we are currently finishing up med surg 2(our sixth class) and everything for the most part is ok! She's about 18 weeks now and the only real complaints she has is not getting breaks during clinicals so she can rest her feet and have a bite to eat >.

NYC mildred elley students?
I'm about a quarter of the way through my second term and I think overall the school is easier than I expected. Being an EMT first, the hardest thing I have had to do was retrain my brain I think about things. My best advise would be study hard but try not to add unnecessary stress on yourself, it's easy to become overwhelmed and if you don't just sit back and breath from time to time you'll have a terrible time for sure.

How many will go on to get their RN?
Providing that I pass my LVN program ( was confident until Pharm!) I was planning on going on to getting my RN asap. Lately I have been thinking about maybe getting my prereqs for medical school out of the way and just working as an lvn until I become a doctor. I still have until November to decide so we'll see then!

Fall 2012 lpn classes
1: what date you start/ school name 10/29/12 Dallas Nursing Institute 2: how long is your program 51 weeks 3: why are you becoming an lpn.. I'm currently and EMT and I love the medical field, but I'm tired of riding on a rig and only being able to do the bare minimum to help someone, so I decided that nursing is the way to go. My eventual plan is to get my BSN but I wanted my foot in the door so LVN is going to be that foot! 4: how much is your program $27,600

Clinicals
I'm in my second term and I can totally understand where you are coming from. The best advise I can give is when in doubt ask your instructor. While they may seem uninterested at times, really there are there to make sure you are doing everything you can to learn. Besides if you don't ask for help no one will know you need it!

Starting class Monday!
Good luck, you sound like you have a good head on your shoulders, you can do this. Just make sure to stay ahead of your reading, lectures tend to give a lot of information and if you forgot to preread you may find yourself feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Wrapping up first term

Advice for new LPN student
I'd recommend you invest in an NCLEX-PN book, especially one with a cd. NCLEX questions are hard and the more exposure you get to them the better off you'll be. As far as a stethoscope, while in school I use the same $30 stethoscope that I use in the back of my ambulance, I picked it up at my local nursing uniform store and have found that it works more than well. I wouldn't spend the money on a really fancy stethoscope unless you are truly having a hard time hearing or you start working in a specialty that requires it.

Trade Schools- Are they a waste of money? Is anyone happy with a trade school?
I'm currently going to a trade school and I'm loving every minute of it. My teachers are knowledgeable and do their very best to make sure every student is getting the help they need to succeed. A lot of the negative reviews that you will read out there for tech/vocational schools are from students that A) went to a genuinely bad school ( hard to be bad if your school is accredited) B) expected a free ride through school and ended up failing out because they didn't do the work. My best advise to you is contact the schools you are interested in and do tours around the campus, talk to students and staff while you are there. Good luck finding the right school for you!
