  1. I'm new to the posts. It seems like a lot of nurses are feeling my pain, but does anyone have any answers??? Thanks! - B.
  2. Unfortunately, no. But they should!
  3. A friend at work recommended it and I checked it out - although I broused for a year til I actually started participating. Now I'm addicted!
  4. A bit of ginger under the nose works wonders - either fresh (although not practical!) or in an oil. Perfumes tend to be dangerous since people (patients, families, co-workers) are often sensitive or allergic. Good luck!
  5. That's what I want to know! "Customer" Satisfaction has become a joke. Surveys & scores aren't based on patients who are actually admitted through the ED (and, thus, actually need to be there). Not to mention the fact that the surveys often focus on things like "availability of parking" (over which we have no control) and "Were you seen in a timely fashion?". Obviously, those people (F.F.'s) with the lowest acuity will wait longer - sometimes hours upon hours giving you the greasy eyeball. Why is it that they always seem to get the surveys??? We provide them with t.v.'s, beverages, warm blankets - everything but a chocolate on their pillow. And it's all "free". Why wouldn't they come back for every little sniffle or rash? Cheers - Bitter & Burned Out.
  6. I agree! And each generation is less accountable and less respectful - they know their "customer" satisfaction survey is on it's way & the customer is always right!
  7. Congrats on the delivery! Boy or Girl? 10 year ED vet here & I feel your pain!!!
  8. It may be true that there are more than enough nurses to fill the void, but has anyone considered that many nurses are abandoning the bedside and even the profession because of unrealistic workloads, unpleasant work environments and burnout??? We can license all the people in the world, but if they don't want to work, it doesn't do us any good.
  9. The nursing shortage is only going to get worse! Because of the requisite high student to teacher ratios, more funding is needed. Despite all the recruitement campaigns, the government is spending only a tiny fraction of what it spent during the nursing shortage of the 80's. There aren't enough educators to educate prospective nurses. Thousands of students are turned away each year. Makes you wonder if our government really takes it (or us) seriously....
