Just want to bump it up

Getting back to you I started sunday. We are able to do vital signs, accu checks, and nursing aid duties. We do hourly rounding. If there is anything extra I am sure to learn about as training continues and learn more and gain the nurses and other aids trust and respect.!

Yeah at the hospital im working at i do need a lock for my locker, a lunch bag because on weekends the cafeteria is closed or just to bring your own lunch and snacks, and if you want your own clip board to bring back and forth to write on when doing vitals, accu checks, and side notes.

Today was my first day of training on med surg and I really enjoyed it. It was truly an exciting day. A lot of different things happened but all was handled like it should. I know there will be good and bad days but I think this is a good start to a future here. @AshBuggin my note pad was greatly needed tell I get out on own and have floor sheets for the unit.

Definitly a good idea. The more. Certifications the more experience you can gain and will back you ip when you be come a nurse and start applying for jobs. Also it can help when in nursing school when you have hands on experience.

Like the above post take your time and do not rush. Do what needs to be done first, when it rooms try and do everything you need to do (bed, linen, patient and all) while in the room so you do not have to go back right after. Do not panic or get frustrated.

I am a CPCT and I have my Associates Degree in Business Administration with the concentration in Healthcare Administration. For the summer I am going back to get my Bachelors in Healthcare Administration. Any of you guys on here has these degrees? If so are you working in that field? As what and do you like it?

@working bee Im starting on med surg monday. Well my orientation at least but Im a CPCT.

Do you still want to work in healthcare or another field. Im a PCT but since I have decided not to go back to school again for nursing I got my associates in Healthcare Administration and decided to go back and get my bachelors in it as well. This degree gives you a step in the door for a few different careers.

Congrats I will be starting as a PCT on a med surg unit soon. Stay positive just answer all the questions using your own experience and be your self. Dress professional no jeans. Questions for her- what are they looking for in a pct? What are some of the duties? Can you shadow any one to get a look at the unit and what you will be doing? How does the job compare to what you are already used to. Good Luck!!!

Just keep applying. It is a long process but do not give up. Fresh out of PCT school I interviewed and was hired for PCT position at a hospital because of my resume and the experience I had. Now I did not have experience in healthcare with a job but I had it taking care of my grandparents and I informed them of that on my interview. In the end I had to turn down the job for one closer to home because I had a baby but I have been applying again and now with a little over 2 years under my belt I have been interviewed and accepted the position again. So never stop applying and trying your chance will come.

What equipment would I need when I start. This is my first time working in a hospital so I want to be prepared. I know the basics watch, pens, and a little small note pad to write down stuff until I get used to everything but anything else?

At a state facility in Louisiana CNA start with 8.06. Of course there is shift diff for evening, nights, and weekends. But still not nearly enough for all the work we do.

Your absolutely right. I don't know why its so different either. One day I will actually ask someone who can answer that question for me. We learn and do so much and wen you are with a company for so long you get to learn and do extra skills because you have been there so long. Its crazy but when I find out what I can do I will remember to let you know .

@NcPCT thank you. Im in Louisiana. I did not get to shadow any one after my interview but I think vita signs, accu check, draw blood. So want really know tel ordination and training.

Im so excited and nervous to be getting interviewed for a pct position in a hospital. I have been working as a CNA for a lil over 2yrs now in a veterans home near where I live an cant wait to move on to a job where I can gain more experience and skills. A lot of the med surg pct topics have really helped me see what I can be in for.
