  1. Well its been awhile since I posted. I went off the antidepressant and now take my xanax prn very rarely and more so to sleep. Im not sure it was a good move. I loved the prozac... Has anyone heard about the Prozac extended release and how well that works. Does it have the same drop off effect as the original prozac?
  2. Just alittle tip in ohio and here in florida there is a line of grocery stores that are very low in price. Of course you need to add a few more seasonings to some of the stuff but most are good. Its called SAVE A LOT. You can find it in low income areas usually on main drags. No not always crack neighborhood but country areas rual areas etc. I save so much money there. cereal $1.79 a box always.... canned soups still .25 cents. low prices from new or smaller companies... I also buy my meat in bulk and seperate it in baggies. I sandwich size baggie holds about a pound of meat.. I wait for sales sometimes at other grocery stores and buy.. then freeze.
  3. Mine does high end security systems for large corporations... He can walk into a building and name the type of security system etc... Ive been with him so long I automatically look up and locate all the security cameras... Then Reality sets in...... OMG there gonna think Im casing the joint!!!! :rotfl:
  4. Thats was my exact point in another post. Nurses are on there own. I wish we would all get together and form a state or nationwide support group powerful enough to make an impact on legislation and big enough to make facilities pay attention. The fact is Noone but nurses care! The facility is gonna get there 8 hours of you.. and wont look back. The nursing board is gonna take your license if something happens. She was lucky had something happened to one of those patients. The nursing board would have held your friend responsible. It doesnt matter that she is new with no training and no management there! If she couldnt do the job she should have not taken it is the way it is looked at!! Thats sad. and we are in desperate need of someone or something to back us. Im not talking about so half crazed union that just wants our money.. Im talking about real nurses backing each other... In our jobs.. In our lives and in our courtrooms.
  5. I was wondering and it seems to be quite prominent. Nurses seem to have to take medication alot. Mine started in nursing school. Of course I was a single mom of two, going to nursing school, building a house and living with my mother till it was finished. Talk about stress.. I started having panic attacks. Never before in my life had I had one. I thought I was dying. Well I lived and now not only do I take a PRN order of xanax but I also take an antidepressant. Every nurse I know is either doing the same or has the symptoms without treatment. I was wondering how common indeed it was world wide? Is our profession making us have to be medicated?
  6. You are just in whats called "the honeymoons over phase" I was lucky enough for my nursing instructor to teach me about this phase before I graduated. Its when the whole excitement of being a new nurse wears into reality. You learn that there is nursing school way and real life way. and sometimes it sucks. You can try a different environment but you will feel the same there in a short while. Nursing is hard work. demanding and well it plain sucks at times but it has its rewards also. Maybe find an area that you like. Some like rehabilitation/skilled units for recovery.. its the one place you get to see your patients go home. some come in on a stretcher and walk out... Thats rewarding. Try OB thats rewarding. take another class. try to mixed it up alittle maybe its not the place you work maybe its just you need alittle change.
  7. OK maybe I cant pick just one!! But the biggest is us nurses eat our own!!! Thats created because we are the one profession that is judged and monitored by so many agencies but we have NO backing for example. I am licensed in two states. In Ohio nurses answer to The nursing board. The pharmacy board, The state health dept. the facility etc... Who has the nurses back? NOONE! The nursing board was created to police us. Im not complaining about any of these agencies. Im just saying that NO other profession is policed so well. And.. other professions have people backing them. In there corner.. What does nursing have... You make a mistake!!! Your on your own baby!! Noone is gonna come to your rescue. If a facility is sued.. who do you think they will fire? The nurse or nursing supervisor! They wont spend money to protect you!! so in turn we turn on each other. You always bite the hand that is the closest to you. We have noone else to lash out at when we are backed in a corner.. That is the biggest problem in nursing today... How we solve it is yet to be seen!!!!
  8. It is my understanding and I did some research on Med Techs. They are supposed to be licensed by the pharmacy board. They can pass meds but NOT narcotics and there still has to be a nurse present to oversee the patients. All they do is pass meds. There is much more to nursing then that. If a facility hires them they do not take the place of a nurse. They just pass meds. I have not had the experience of being in a facility that uses them but I do know the day is coming. Mostly in part to the nursing shortage. There are simply not enough nurses to do the job. I was intimidated by them as much as the next. Nurses get territorial and rightfully so. We worked hard for what we have. We put up with alot from both ends and we are the ones that have NO support. No backing and are policed by everyone and there sister if you know what I mean. I am in management now but when med techs first come around I was a floor nurse. I was scared to death as nurses dont have great job security anyways. I immediately went searching for what, when, how. etc... After my search I realized my job wasnt in danger. If someone wants to come in and do that 3 hour med pass for me then WOOHOOOOOO!! Anyways I have not seen it grow in leaps and bounds. I dont worry about it and now that Im in management I dont hear even a discussion about med techs taking over the nurses place if anything.. I hear talk about them freeing up the nurse so she can be a nurse!!! and of course do her paperwork!!!
  9. That will never happen. If you are looking for a job that long now you must be looking in the wrong place. I am from ohio and hold both an ohio and florida license. There is such a shortage that it can and will not ever happen. besides there is more areas then just hospitals, there are doctors offices, clinics, nursing homes, agencies. Refine your search sweetie there are definately rocks you are leaving unturned.
  10. I think it depends on the facility. I have been taught to make a line thru it and write mistaken entry... I have also used error and my initials either way. You have to do what you feel comfortable. I know facilities put pressure on you to do it there way. They have legal issues too. but remember its your license on the line and when it comes down to it.. They are not gonna stand behind you!
