A&P I Spring 2013
I took A&P 1 (both lecture and lab) along with Nutrition in the same semester, but I also worked full time. I found it very challenging but mostly because our A&P teacher was a lazy MSN who just sat down and read off of powerpoint slides. Kept us in the class the entire time...never ending early...even if it meant playing things like bogus Bingo games on things we didn't even review in class. It was ridiculous and that made it much more stressful. At the end we got lucky because she allowed open book for our final but it was a lot of content to cover so if you didn't know the chapter or where to find the stuff, you were stuck with not being able to finish on time. I took Nutrition with A&P 1 thinking it would be an easy balance but Nutrition also turned out to be a pretty difficult class. I ended up with an A in each of the 3 but I busted my rump the entire 14 weeks. It can be done..just stay focused and take good notes. GOOD LUCK!

How long did it take you to get your ATT in NJ?
Best of luck!!! Hope you hear something soon. Based on posts I've read, waiting for the ATT seems to be just as stressful as last semester of nursing school. Be persistent. You've worked too hard to get to this point.

Burlington County College Spring 2013 does anyone know what schedule I should expect?
Thank you for all the great tips. I was thinking exactly the same which is why i did all of my worksheets, drug cards and my 2 page paper. I have been reading Nugent's Test Taking Skills for Beginner Nurses to help teach me to understand critical thinking and help me with my tests and in the long run, the NCLEX. As soon as I am done I will get started with my lecture and lab readings. I want to be as far ahead as possible. There is SO much prep work - unbelievable. I feel bad and can't imagine those that are waiting until the last minute to get all of the prep work/stuff done. I get scared thinking about it and can't imagine.

Nervous New Student..trying to get prepared! HELP!
Buying school supplies is also one of my guilty pleasures. Because I am limited to space in my house, I am also going to invest in a nice plastic tote so that I can keep all if my "home" stuff in one central location while giving the appearance of being uncluttered. This way I keep my dining room table looking normal.

Nervous New Student..trying to get prepared! HELP!
I ended up buying a really nice book bag on wheels which expands a lot and so far I can barely fit my books let alone a binder. At this rate I may also need to invest on a back belt like those used by the people that work at Home Depot. I can't believe how much stuff I need and I haven't even started. I feel bad for those that are waiting for the last minute to get all of their stuff. You guys ROCK!!! Thank you.

Nervous New Student..trying to get prepared! HELP!
I was thinking maybe the binder route may work better but keeping it color coordinated is also a good idea. I have everything - binders, folders and notebooks. Thankfully Walmart has a nice return policy. :)I am generally an organized person but am letting my nerves and anxiety get the best of me. "Reveries" -- I love your idea of keeping a larger binder at home with all of the excess information and only take what I need in the binder I will use to/from class. Thank you!!! All of the advise is very helpful. LOVE allnurses!

Nervous New Student..trying to get prepared! HELP!
Nervous New Student..trying to get prepared! I start nursing program in Jan 2013 and am working on getting all of my supplies and items needed for my first day/week of class. There is so much to get done, buy and plan. Don't have much time or money to waste. Have a quick question and appreciate your feedback. Based on your experiences as previous or current first time nursing students, what do you think is better -- Binder (maybe 2") with dividers & loose leaf paper OR a 5 subject notebook with separate folders?

Dear British "Hoaxed" Nurse:
I agree with your response. Just doesn't seem to add up or make sense. It's all very unfortunate and definitely not worth taking your own life over. I feel horrible for her children and husband.

False-Positive PPD test....negative chest xray...is antiobiotic required?
As part of the nursing student testing protocol, I had 2 PPD tests performed. They both came back false positive. Then had chest xray done and it came back positive - THANKFULLY!!! My PCP prescribed me the 9 month antibiotic but I got a reaction to it and had to be taken off of it after 2 days and a visit to the ER. I have now been referred to an infectious disease doctor to see if another course of treatment is required. I am not sure what to do and frankly tired of taking time off from work, scheduling appointments and paying copays around this whole dilemna. Has anyone else experienced this? I have an appointment next week with the infectious disease doctor because I don't want the school to hold anything against me to start in January. I have waited too long and worked too hard to not start in a few weeks.

Stupid socks....which to wear or not to wear for beginner nursing student????
I purchased 2 2-packs at Life Uniform. They were a little pricey but I am hoping they were worth it. I will let you know in February/March.

Stupid socks....which to wear or not to wear for beginner nursing student????
Thank you all for your quick responses. I am just going to suck it up and purchase a couple decent pairs from Life Uniform. Unfortunately the Walmart has very bulky ones.

Stupid socks....which to wear or not to wear for beginner nursing student????
I don't know why this is consuming me but wondering if anyone can help. I've seen mixed posts about compression socks for beginner nursing students. Are these helpful or a waste of money. I have been pricing them on many sites and they range any where from $6-$15 ea. Ridiculous!!! Help and advise are both requested and welcomed. Gracias.

Burlington County College Spring 2013 does anyone know what schedule I should expect?
Thank you Shannon. You were even helpful when I spoke to you a month or so ago. People that give as much as you do will be blessed with receiving it back three fold. You're right....positive attitude really does, go a long way. The hardest is getting started and I know once I get in to my first class with each of the labs, lecture and clinicals, my nerves will subside. I am going to definitely give it my all. My husband and daughters are pushing me, supportive and have promised to step up to the plate with the house stuff, which is a huge help and will reduce my anxiety and stress. Please continue to check back!!!!!

Rutgers RN-BSN
Another option to consider is Chamberlain School of Nursing online program to go from RN to BSN program. Have a family member got their ADN from community college and enrolled. Most hospitals don't care where you got your BSN from just as long as you have it. Chamberlain offers classes in 8 week tracks, weeks 1-7 class and week 8 is for your final. if you go all year, including summer, you cam get it done in less than 2 years (14 mths). No waiting lists or GPAs to worry about. I am planning to follow this same program if/when I get my ADN. It's worth looking in to as another option in place of classroom learning. And because it is online, you can keep your job getting the experience you need while also earning your degree. Tuition rates are just as competitive as any other school. Good luck!

I took both AP II lab/lecture and micro lab/lecture in the same semester. Definitely hard but you can do it. Like all previous posts, study a lot and stay on top of your readings. Good luck!

Burlington County College Spring 2013 does anyone know what schedule I should expect?
Congratulations! I also registered for 119-400. I can only do evenings. There is a lot to get done. There is a form due November 9th...just a reminder for you to mail it in. Did you take the nursing administration class? I took it over the summer and passed but am hoping it is still good for NUR119. Good luck to you!

Burlington County College Spring 2013 does anyone know what schedule I should expect?
I received my first (of 2) nursing packets in today's mail, though the letter is dated October 23rd. There is a lot due in terms of physical and forms to be returned. I have my physical scheduled for Nov. 26th. Some forms are due to them as early as November 9th. Just wanted to share.

Burlington County College Spring 2013 does anyone know what schedule I should expect?
From what I have heard, there are only 20 spots open for the day lab/clinicals and they are on a first come/first serve basis. Good luck -- I am sure you will get a spot. Good luck with everything...I will check this thread periodically and add anything new I come across or find out which may be helpful. Talk soon.

Burlington County College Spring 2013 does anyone know what schedule I should expect?
No. I haven't. I called ****** the nursing office and she mentioned that the packets and registration letters will be going out in Nov. The packet will also tell us when we need to go in to Pemberton campus to register because it is currently locked for NUR119. I am getting anxious because there is still a few things left to get done. I have my scrubs (2 shirt from bookstore and pants from walmart), books (+$300), engraved stethoscope (medisave.net has free engraving for $69.99 and cheaper than bcc bookstore which is $99), white sneakers and ordered my rolling bookbag. For now, I am set from that end but it is overwhelming. As an additional FYI, I went to the bookstore in Pemberton to order my name badge and the girl that took my order mentioned that they have been messing up orders and the recent ones they did took about 2 months to come in. They are $12 each. I ordered 2 just to be sure because of few posts and others I have spoken to mentioned that they have lost theirs and you definitely need them for clinicals. I figured I would play it safe and order 2. They take about 6 weeks to come in. Also, based on some threads you will need to have a nursing school physical done by your dr with a ppd test done. PPD test is a 2 part test that have to be given 2 weeks apart. This is also FYI for you to help with your scheduling and prep. SO MUCH to get done before January 18th!!! Are you planning on attending evening classes? I can only go at night.

Yay!!!!! CONGRATS!!!! That is awesome. How did you get the drug test done so fast? I paid for my criminal background check and it said it would notify me in 24 hours with Labcorp details. Yes I took NUR103 in the summer as well. Wasn't too bad but it did stress the crap out of me. I will definitely let you know which classes I will be taking. Super excited.
