Dealing with "haters"...
I had family members that were unhappy for me in nursing school. Assumed I had all this money and I was just in nursing, but now that I've been a RN, BSN for a year they are even more envious. My brand new 2013 car doesn't ease their feelings, oh well. I pray for them and continue to love them from a distance. I worry about what I can control.

Temporarily on night shift; too scared to do it
Try taking sublingual b12 tablets. I take one to two during my shift on nights I work. Gives me a boost of energy when I began to feel sleepy. Nights shifters are the coolest!

New Grad with Peer Interview butterflies...
The peer interview I had consisted of two situation questions and several questions about myself. Make sure you write down three questions to ask them. Such as describe your manager in three words, what are some rewarding aspects working with this hospital, and ask about teamwork. If you see me drowning in work, will you offer to help or just watch me sink further and further behind.

New Grad RN feeling down after a lousy interview.
I surely will. I am a RN on a 22 bed Med Surg floor in Rome, Georgia! They were looking for BSN prepared RN and I was the last interview for this position. Interviewed on Monday and had an offer on Thursday. I feel like a million bucks because I was so down about the lousy interview I had last Friday I went to a local temp agency and applied for administrative and secretarial jobs.

New Grad RN feeling down after a lousy interview.
Apply again. Now the questions are like can you pass a medication exam, did you graduate from an accredited school, are you a GA RN, and are you okay with working the shift( 7a-7p or 7p-7a) you are applying for. No supervisory experience. I dont have any information about Grady. I was calling HR trying to speak with someone. One of my girlfriends was bold, she went up there in a suit with her resume. They interviewed her on the spot and she got an offer within hours later. I am afraid I got there and the person in charge wont be there to see me. Waste time and gas.

New Grad RN feeling down after a lousy interview.
I wonder why it is disqualify you during the pre screening. Are you not answering YES to all of the questions. I really would prefer a hospital setting, but I have applied for everything across the board except Hospice. I have applied for State jobs, Mollen Immunization Clinics, Davita Dialysis, hospitals within miles where I live now, LTC, VA hospitals, and I have asked DR offices. I am trying my hardest to be patient but the bills are adding up. No one told me in nursing school it would be this hard. I just knew when I graduated and passed nclex, hospitals would be banging my door down to hire me.

New Grad RN feeling down after a lousy interview.
A visual of the principal lying in the chair popped up in my head, and I literally laughed out loud. I wonder how in the world were these people able to get as far as they have. The lack of professionalism is unreal.

New Grad RN feeling down after a lousy interview.
I have considered and applied for everything except hospice. I am too emotional for hospice. Most practices want medical assistants. I graduated in April with a BSN and I have a friend that graduated in July with MA. She has a job. She had a job a week before she graduated.

New Grad RN feeling down after a lousy interview.
I have a job agent sent up for when new jobs are available. I have applied to so many jobs at Grady once that a message popped up saying " You have reached the maximum amount of application for this facility." I had to wait until the status changed on some to apply for more.

New Grad RN feeling down after a lousy interview.
I don't understand why they are rude. Where is the empathy? They once were where we are now ( interviewing and actively seeking employment). I have noticed it is a lot of who you know and who knows you, and it shouldn't be like that at all.

New Grad RN feeling down after a lousy interview.
Thank you all for the kind words. I cancelled my pity party and took your advice. That isn't the manager I would enjoy working with. I had an awesome interview this morning. I was the last one to interview for the position. I left feeling really good about it. So tomorrow or in a couple days, you hear a shout of joy.... It may be me because I will shout it from the highest mountaintop whenever I become employed.

New Grad RN feeling down after a lousy interview.
ms_sgr, I have numerous applications in with Grady. I have yet to receive a call or email back. On the dashboard, most say the generic "We are going with other candidates." I have even tried to email the nurse recruiter. She never responded back. I have called up to HR to check the status of my applications, but no one answers and the voicemail is full. I don't know what else to do besides drive the hour there and hope and pray someone will speak to me.

New Grad RN feeling down after a lousy interview.
Hi All, I am yet another unemployed new grad in Georgia. I had my third interview this morning. The other two didn't result in job offers. This position was an Emergency Room RN position in a small yet growing hospital outside of Atlanta. My interview was scheduled for 9am. I arrived at 845am. I wore a black skirt suit, white button up, closed toed heels, pantyhose, and a pearl necklace. The interviewer, the hiring manager, didn't show up until 945am. By 1010am the interview was done. Here is what made the interview so lousy: -I felt rushed -Her office phone and cellphone rang at least 5 times in the 30 minutes I was with her -She stated she was looking for someone with experience despite the posting online stated no experience required( How am I ever suppose to shed the New Grad title if no one wants to hire a new grad) -She asked lousy questions such as asking about other hospitals I had applied at and why I choose part time( Right about now part time is better than the NO TIME I have right now) -She was very dry and rude -She hadn't even glanced at my resume( She knew nothing about me, I thought this was very weird because when you apply your application goes through screening with HR and if you qualify then it is forwarded to the hiring manager) Despite her being rude and a total bore, I answered the questions truthful and with ease. I wasn't as nervous as normally am. I felt really good about this interview beforehand. I figured volunteering at a local hospital would give me some pull. The interviewer asked "Well why didn't you apply there instead of here." I wish there was some way I could report her without jeopardizing my chance of ever getting a job at that hospital. I am pass the getting discouraged part. I graduated in April and I am still unemployed. I have applied to every hospital within 50 miles from my house. I am at the point now where I am applying for non RN positions because I am so desperate. I just want to work. Anyone else have any bad interview stories?

Rejection Galore
CP1983, I met with the nurse recruiter in HR at 930 then with the nurse manager on the floor where I would be working. I didnt leave until 1220-1230. I feel like the only reason I was able to land that interview was because I had done my senior prac there. I felt like the interview went really well, and I just knew I would be starting the following week. I was informed of pay, benefits, the color of scrubs to order, what days of the month orientation would be, the orientation process, and etc. I was thinking in my head, "Wow, I have received a lot of information about this job. Sounds really promising." I was told in 1 week they would be in contact about the next process. Well HR never contacted my references because I asked my references just about everyday had someone reached them. I dont know what happened or what went wrong. I have two friends that completed nursing school with me that work on this same floor, and they informed me that the nurse manager hired two guys but the are still in need of 2 more night RN. My application still says pending on the career dashboard. Pending isnt good enough, I need a job offer. My family is barely getting by on my husband's income.

Rejection Galore
Know that you are not only. I have a BSN and in Georgia. I have applied to to every hospital within an hour and half from my house. Only landed one interview, one phone interview, and one email questionnaire. It has been 4 months since graduation and 2 months since passing NCLEX. From what I have heard the job market for New Grads is hard in every state.

Why is it always the patient with the worst situation? geez
We all have our own ways of dealing with unpleasant issues. Don't judge them or get upset with them. Just take care of them as if they were your own family.
