  1. MedPro rocks. As an LNA who graduated from there(and now a GPN :biggringi ) I can tell you that Medpro gave me an excellent foundation, and was the start of a promising career. I'm 38, and my dreams are coming true. There ARE some facilities that offer LNA certification in exchange for a time period working it off, call around! NH does reimburse you for any tuition spent after 6 months of work in a facility. Good luck!
  2. Hi everybody. I just found out that one of the nurses at my job is positive for Hep C. She says the risk of infecting either patients or coworkers is practically nil. I don't know much, but I do know that it is mandatory that we get tested for Hep B. What are your thoughts on this situation. She's a great nurse and uses precautions (like we all do) I'm just a little puzzled and curious to know if other facilities have any protocol for this issue. By the way, I will be a GPN tomorrow! Thanks for any feedback...
  3. may prayers are for your friend and her poor daughter. May God see them through this, and I pray they find a new bond between them
  4. watching an epidural being started in clinical(L +D)I've seen(and smelled a lot), but watching that epidural gave me the cold sweats and fuzzy around the edges vision! Thank God, I could walk to the other side of the room and take some deep breaths. ALSO- WEEPING EDEMA(in a unventilated, filthy house!) ohmigod, i could TASTE that smell the rest of the day. :barf01: :barf01: I just keep a poker face and concentrate on what needs to be done..God Bless us all! :chuckle
  5. Hi Willy- I had some challenging past issues when I applied to nursing school, one of them being a misdemeanor. I was terrified to disclose this info, BUT, I have had only positive experiences. Simply write a letter of explanation(save it on your PC because you will have to write it when applying to the BON for your license, present it while job-seeking, etc.) write the facts, what you learned from it, and keep it brief and to the point. Nursing is a human profession, and none of us are white as snow :) ALSO, take care of that wreckage! Apply to the court to have your record expunged. There is a charge, but having that off of your record will save you the anxiety of having to disclose it. Best of luck to you.....
  6. First..congratulations on your upcoming graduation and wedding! This is all good stuff. I'm graduating my LPN program June 30th of 2005 and getting married on July 23,2005. :rotfl: What the hell was I thinking!? There are four women in my class of 13 that got engaged during school. As someone whose life has definitely taken a wonderful turn, you'd think I'd be grateful, but I'm too tired. I feel bad for the men in our lives, cause there is just nothing left to give after work fulltime and school fulltime. Thank God i have a lot of help from my soon to be in-laws and I network with other brides to be. Just take things a step at a time. My wedding is pretty much all set. I would've waited in retrospect, but it's gonna happen. SCHOOL is the priority, not my wedding. I've had to rein myself back when getting too obsessive about it. Relax, study, delegate, ask for help, and enjoy love and all the positive changes that are happening...best of luck!!!!
  7. Hey Diane- If your program is like mine, you are probably wrapping up the med-surg piece of the program. Med-surg was killer, and I'm so glad we got through it. I just started in maternity, L&D, and peds today. I have no experience with infants or peds, I work in LTC. I was so anxious! Diane, it was wonderful! One of my classmates got to see a delivery, and I watched a nurse give a Hep B vaccine to a 3-day old. It's all learning and getting through those dreaded firsts. I learned how to swaddle today, and I look forward to tomorrow, when I do my first assessment of a mom and newborn :) These CI's ARE a nightmare, but, someday they won't be there and we'll build that confidence. The last piece of my program is community nursing, shadowing a nurse and really getting a feel for what it's all about. My family's suffered too. Nursing school is the HARDEST thing I've ever undertaken, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. We're almost there, and it is worth it. Just keep plugging, you are not alone.
  8. I've been right where you're at. My first practice med pour was accompanied by tears, and only my fellow students and the instructor were there. I too have four months to go, and I'm entering a maternity clinical this weekend. I'm scared, but EVERY nurse has to do something for the first time. If you are unsure about some of your skills, ask an instructor to allow you to practice in the lab. I had to draw up 2u of insulin recently, and I attemted to draw up only the 2u at first. My anxiety was through the roof! The patient was waiting, my instructor was watching, and I kept getting air bubbles! Later that week, I went to the lab and did the right way. We all make mistakes, That's to be expected. That's why we have the "5 rights" and an instructor watching every move, until we demonstrate proficiency. ASK FOR HELP! Show up at clinical even when you don't want to go. Explore why you are anxious. Maybe nursing isn't for you. Nursing isn't for everyone, and we often don't discover it until we're actually practicing in clinical. Only you can make that call. Best of luck to you.
  9. At least you didn't give up. I'll be graduating in three months, (please God) ,and nursing school has been the toughest thing I've ever done. A lot of people don't even make it to graduation. You'll be a better nurse for all the studying you've done...
