  1. Very true post. I am in Charleston SC.. I am an RN currently with 5 years experience. I have gone back to school for RN to BSN with 6 months until I graduate with my BSN. Take heed, be ahead of the wave instead of behind it. Be proactive.
  2. Yes. My own father told me that I would never be a nurse. That I would not make it through nursing school. Well I made it!! Been a nurse for 6 years, House Supervisor for two years and also an ICU nurse. I am working on my BSN and am on the President's List cause my GPA is 4.0. I will be enrolled on a MBA/MSN program in less than a year. So he can eat ish!!! And I make moreover than he ever could.
  3. Have you taken stats yet? How did it go? Any advice? I start stats in two weeks!!!!
  4. How did the interview go?
  5. It is doable! Anything it when u put your mind to it. I am working 55 hrs a week, two jobs one day shift job one night shift job, have four year old son and a husband and I have a 4.0 GPA. I have gotten an A in my first four courses. I had to post 4 out of 7 days for the first two classes. After that, 3 out of 7 days.
  6. No there is not any Christian based school work.
  7. Have you taken stats yet? If so what tips can you give to help pass this class successfully? I am starting stats on Jan 28 at GCU RN-BSN program.
  8. What can you share about statistics? Any tips that enabled you to get an A in this class? How is the class sat up with quizzes and such? I am currently enrolled in GCU RN-BSN program. I am starting the stats class on Jan 28th. I currently have a 4.0 GPA with them. Any help will be appreciated!! You can contact me via PM also.
  9. It goes by fast. I can't believe I am 4 classes on with a 4.0 GPA. I will keep u posted on the stats class. Don't worry.
  10. I am just doing core nursing classes. No courses require a preceptor that I know of. I am still loving GCU and will move into the MSN/MBA program in Jan 2014.
  11. Wow you have a lot of experience. Do you think you may be overqualified?
  12. Ok, so you do already have a little management experience. Good. I would ease into it by filling in if the charge nurse wants to be off, or calls in sick. See how that goes. And despite what the previous poster said, it is always good to take initiative with your career and have a plan. Those that can do- do and those that can do also lead too!
  13. I am taking a 14 months worth of classes. Each Class is 5 weeks long. No break in between classes.
  14. You get a syllabus at the start of each course that has all discussion questions, assigned readings, and paper topics for each week. So yes, you can plan ahead. I frequently have my discussion questions already written, and then post them both on Mondays for the week ahead. Each paper is about 1000 words. It sounds like a lot, but it really is not once you get going. I find it hard to get out all I want to say in just 1000 words. They want for a "guideline" about 200 words for a discussion question answer. Its terrible, but I will be honest to the fact that I do not do a lot of the the assigned textbook readings, I mainly skim if I need information on a topic. I mainly read the lectures for the week, and then expand on that with skimming the textbook if needed. I spend about 8 hrs a week total studying. And that is if I am really stumped on a paper topic. There is not big exam at the end of each class, just the weekly papers. But as far as Stats I am not sure how that will be in regards to big exams.
  15. Ok. I don't have stats until Jan. That is a good thing since I am accepted on conditions that I make a 3.0 in my first 4 classes. Stats is my fifth class, so that is good. You write a paper every week. There are 2 discussion questions you must answer every week. First question is due by Wednesday, second question is due by Friday. You must comment on two other student's discussion questions for 4 out of 7 days. So you make a total of 8 post to other student's comments, and post 2 answers to discussion questions every week. It really is not that bad. You just need to get into a rhythm. There is required reading every week. There is one group project per class. Usually a powerpoint presentation. Its not bad! Get PEERLA to help you write the papers in APA format. All papers are due by 11:59pm on Sunday time zone of whichever Phoenix, AZ is in. Each class is 5 weeks long, weeks starting Monday at midnight to Sunday at 11:59pm. What else can I tell you?
  16. Hey, I am looking to accept a Nurse Manger's position also. Can I pm you?
  17. Sure. I have started a thread in the Grand Canyon University section. You can post there too if you like.
  18. I have been a nurse for 5 years. I did not feel pressured to get a BSN, but I am being proactive as I can see a time in the not-so distant future when it will be required for RNs to hold a BSN. One of my first assignments was to read the IOM report on nursing's future. That really opened my eyes that I needed to get advanced nursing degrees to survive. The program was very uncomplicated to get in. I literally had a thought to go back to school, and two weeks later I was taking my first class. The admissions counselors make the whole process to incredibly easy. I was not a good nursing student. I was a "c" student. You need at least a 2.5 to get into the school, but you can be accepted on conditions. I was accepted on conditions that I make a 3.0 average in my first 4 classes. I am finished with two classes and have a 4.0 average. GCU really works with you where you are to get you where you want to go. I say go for it! What else can I tell you?
  19. This thread is dead! I am currently in the RN-BSN program. If anyone has any questions, I would be glad to answer them!
  20. Hey All I am currently in the RN-BSN program and GCU and I love it! I am finishing up my 2nd class and have a 4.0 so far. I am expected to graduate October 2013. I only have to take just the nursing classes. Go for it! You won't be sorry!
  21. Hey! Congrats on finishing your MSN so quickly! So find a unit you would like to work in, get some experience, then move into the charge nurse role. Spend maybe a year or two as charge nurse then look to move up. Assistant Nurse Manager, then Nurse Manager, then House Supervisor, then Director of a unit. But just get your foot in the door with charge nurse experience then go where you would like from there.
