Seattle
What companies are you guys finding assignments with in Seattle? I have been waiting for something to open up there for over a year, and nothing opens....I have recruiters with Emerald, Trustaff, CCTC, and Flexcare, but still not seeing anything open. Really wanna go there though.

Henry Mayo in Valencia, CA
Im here now in the ER, its not a bad place. Hospital is small, but overall not a bad place to work. The city of Valencia is very nice, and LA is only a short drive away for when you wanna go out.

Cross Country TravCorps
CCTC is a larger company so they have LOTS of contracts available, that being said they seem to be on the cheap side when it comes to pay. They offered me a pay package in Northern Cali that was LESS than what I made as STAFF in KENTUCKY....I told em yea right and moved on to a smaller company haha.

Who do you use to manage your housing?
Company Housing vs Private vs Extended Stay vs Craigslist etc Just wanted to hear from other travelers out there as to how they managed their housing Do you take what the company offers you, or do you find your own? If so, what resources do you use to find your housing?

Can you work on light duty if your traveling?
Hey guys, so I have a question. I am considering scheduling an elective surgery for which I will be required to be on 3-4weeks of light duty. I know the obvious answer is to simply schedule the surgery in between contracts and take the time off, and I am considering that. However I was wondering are there any other alternatives? Can you work on light duty while on a travel assignment? Are there desk position assignments for short term? I am an ER Nurse, so the lifting can be heavy at times, but Im sure I could dodge the bullet if need be and explain to my coworkers im on light duty but im Not sure how this would be welcomed since I would be an outsider while on assignment. Anyway, figured I would just throw that out there, any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks =)

Travel assignment in San Fran area
I feel your pain, I have 5 years ER experience, but Im a new traveller and I just took my first assignment and was totally low balled. Its worth it for me just for the experience of where I am going, but in the future im going to try and shoot for a higher rate. It seems AMN is notorious for being cheap.

How Negotiable is your Pay Rate
I'm new to the travel industry, but I have about 5 years ER Experience, I just took my first assignment and i'm fixing to start it, but In my initial excitement I accepted the position before I really took everything into perspective. Its a great educational experience so I'm going to take the position, but for future references: How negotiable is the rate your agency offers you? Which agencies pay the most? Which cities/states will you make the most? Which agencies offer the most incentives/bonuses? Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks Again

Assignment at Stanford
Exactly! But ya I went against my better judgement and went with AM just because I wanted Stanford, and they totally low balled me. Is it worth pushing for more money? What are the odds I'll get overtime if I want it?

Assignment at Stanford
Yea, It ended up just being an interview with the manager, and Im super excited because its STANFORD, but I honestly do feel like I am being low balled. Its not more than im already making in Kentucky, and in KY I get overtime. If I can get all the OT I want at Stanford ill be golden, if not ill be making pretty much the same as I do at home when I work OT.....im torn....dunno if I should take the offer because of the great experience I will gain there, or try and find a higher paying facility...

Moving to San Francisco from KY
Thank you everyone for all the excellent comments and suggestions! I will be taking a travel assignment there soon, and I hope this will help me get my foot in the door! As far as the weather goes, one of the main reasons I love the area is due to the fact that I love cooler weather, I could be content wearing a hoodie year around! Thanks again everyone!

Moving to San Francisco from KY
Hey Guys, I have read through the other discussions and I know it seems repetitive but I need some help. I am currently an RN in the ER in Kentucky. I have been here for 5 years. I traveled to SF on vacation a while back, and fell in love. I want to move to San Francisco and start a new chapter of my life there, however things are VERY different in SF compared to life in KY. A super nice house in KY can be bought for under 200k, and nurses make in the 20-30/hr range; where as that wont get you a cardboard box in San Fran. So my dilemma is how I should go about things. I already have a California license but Im not sure if I can afford somewhere to live in San Francisco until I am working there, yet I dont know how to get a job there if I dont live there....its very complicated! Any suggestions?

Prescription Coverage as a Travel Nurse
Wow NedRN, that is actually very helpful and gives me a few new ideas to try out. The only thing I am unsure of is if that will work because Adderall is infact controlled. Adderall is basically Amphetamine Salts, so what worrys me is the doctor in California assuming I am just trying to score extra meds ya know. All great suggestions though, thank you so much!
