YouTube Nursing Vlogs
Hi everyone! I've been an allnurses member for 6 years and I love it! I looked back at some of my old posts from years ago and can't believe how much time has went by!! So much has changed from asking about what to expect as a nursing student taking my pre-reqs, to getting accepted into a nursing program, inquiring about military nursing, and now working as an Army nurse I remember looking to allnurses.com for all my questions and answers and meeting some awesome people! This is such a wonderful site! One thing that I wasn't fully aware of when I first started on here is the nursing Youtube community! If you haven't checked it out, I highly recommend it because you will be able to see other nursing students, graduates, those in their pre-req stage, and even male nurses that can offer advice and support to you through your journey. It really is a great community and I just wanted to let you all out there know about it if you don't already :-) Just a few to name that I recommend checking out: Hdryver - travel nurse Funkyfunand40 - non-traditional nursing student & mom over the age of 40 777Mendoza777 - male nurse asasims100 - male nursing student criswitnoh, heatherheartsnursing, juliannehola, vgboillot, nurseAimee2013, nursearieezona, nursebrownskin - nursing students Tasha75670, armygirl66p, laurennicole092 NurseBritt2010, Renee4christ (that's me ) - New nurses NurseNacole - she no longer makes videos (which were awesome by the way), but she does have a wondeful blog: NurseNacole.com Hope you enjoy and check them out!!!

how did you study meds?
I recommend "Pharmacology made insanely easy." It gives pictures and ways to remember drug classes and specific meds. I loved it!

Faith and positivity changes things! Passed NCLEX-RN
Hey everyone! I stand by allnurses 100% and most likely always will. I just wanted to share my experience with those who are waiting to take their Nclex. I graduated nursing school in May and just took my nclex yesterday. I was an average student in school, so I passed all my classes, but was not at the top of my class, but earned my grades fairly and honestly. Our school uses the ATI for an exit exam, so I started to really prepare for everything in January, so when it became time to review for the NCLEX, it was just that; a review. There were many things that I needed to brush up on and some weak areas that I needed to strengthen, but I worked my behind off. I enrolled in Kaplan and WILL NEVER REGRET IT! I love allnurses, but one thing that I recommend staying away from is negativity!!! Everyone learns differently and no to people are exactly the same, so if you want to pay the money and invest in a review course, DO IT!!! Whether it be HURST, Kaplan, NCBSN, or whatever, don't allow people to tell you that it's a waste of money, because it's not.. what works for one, may not work for the other. Kaplan helped to build my confidence and enabled me to tackle any question in a way that I never learned in school. Some people do fine without the review courses, some people fail without a review course, and even some fail WITH a review course, so again, everyone is different. I never lost hope and never believed or uttered, "I think I'm gonna fail." You HAVE to stay positive no matter what. If you do your part and stay optimistic, you will pass. For my resources, I used the Kaplan course (online resources is the bulk of the program), Saunders for my content review, the LaCharity book (Delegation, Prioritization...), Pharmacology Made EASY for my meds (STRONGLY RECOMMEND), and the new Kaplan Strategy Review book. YOU CAN and WILL PASS if you have faith of a mustard seed and make sure you do ALL that you are able and want to do in order to pass. Keep your head up, BREATHE, DON'T FREAK OUT, stay away from negativity, never doubt yourself, pray if you do, and most of all, BELIEVE and you will pass. God bless you guys! * I passed with 75 questions :-) Renée

Took my Nclex-RN today
:yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah: I just want to congratulate you on having one of the best posts on this NCLEX forum. I know you haven't gotten your official results yet, but your attitude proves that you passed. Your words really motivated me today and I'm sure others will agree. You didn't make any excuses for the test and went in with a positive attitude and even held on to it throughout up to the time you walked out. That speaks volumes and that is exactly what I plan to do. Thanks again for your motivation and I wish you the best in your nursing career! God bless

OBLC for 2010
You were not able to board your application already? I graduate next week and have everything set up... I was accepted in September and found out about BOLC and my duty station almost 2 months ago. I'm so glad you have experienced with WA! I'm really excited about moving there and seeing what the state has to offer. What do you believe are the best places to live? I'm single, no kids, and would love to live in a nice townhome or condo. This will be my first time and in, so I'm a direct commission and know nothing about it the military! What about yourself? I know I know!! TX in the summer should be quite interesting! I'm excited though and can't wait to get started. I hope everything works out good for you and that you can get into either August or Oct OBLC. Best of blessings!

Hey there! I'm set for July's OBLC and will be stationed at Fort Lewis, WA. You brought me back to reality when you said 8 weeks!!!! Can't believe it's really that short of a time away!!! Have you found out where you will be going?

Army Nurse Corp and experience requirement
Unless the army has recently made changes, prior experience is NOT required because I was accepted in September and I graduate with my bsn next month with NO experience. After obc, I will receive training at my duty station. I know if u have 6 months of training prior to obc, they generally place u at a smaller med center.

Split between branches
Also remember that all branches of nursing are deployable :) You may not hear about it as much with the AF and Navy, but they are used as well. Deployments are 6 months right now for army nurses.

Split between branches
You are so right about this being the best military nursing forum out there! I simply love it! I joined the army in September of 2009 and I will graduate nursing school in May of this year and I feel like it was the best decision I ever made. I applaud you because you are ahead of the game and gathering your info so you can be sure of your choice, which is exactly what I did. I thought about my decision for a good 2 years before I was 100% sure that I wanted to join. What I did initially was call up all 3 branches (Army, Navy, and Airforce) and set up appointments. I came prepared with all my questions that I wrote down at home and asked each of them to the recruiter. I would suggest that you write down whatever information you would like to know.. my recruiter was very patient in answering all my questions and in no way did I feel pressured. Just make sure you go to a healthcare recruiter. All 3 branches have positives and negatives, you just have to go with the branch that suits you best. I went with the army because they are the largest out of the 3, offered the most money in loan repay, and offers the Public health speciality course that I want. So, it really depends on what you are looking to get out of your experience :)

oblc and army residency program: advice please
BAMC was my first choice too, but I ended up getting Madigan, which is where I wanted to go in the beginning before I kept changing my mind, so I feel like it's meant to be! I hear Womack is an awesome center and even better, it's a newer once. I'm so excited for all of us! I hear July is always the largest class, so it should be fun!

oblc and army residency program: advice please
** I boarded in September and am going to July's oblc....

Why am I not happy with military nursing?
Are you @ Walter Reed? I was considering putting it as my first choice until I kept hearing the same things that you mentioned... lots of politics and "brass" walking around... I hear it's an awesome hospital though... I'm sorry you are having a bad expreience and I hope it gets better for you!

Just received assignment....
I got Fort Lewis, WA!!!!!!!! so excited!!

Just received assignment....
COngrats to you!!! I'm still waiting as well... a girl I know just got her assignment today as well and she's going to Germany, so she is pretty psyched! was accepted a little after she was so I hope to hear from Hairston before she goes on leave! I spoke to her a few weeks ago and she said she had me down for July and would be calling me shortly. Is she going on leave the end of the next week? aahhhh!!! I wanna know where I'm going!! Also, did she just tell you that you were going to Bragg or give you a choice of other locations since Walter Reed was not available? I chose BAMC, Madigan, and Tripler. Can't wait!!! So happy for you!

oblc and army residency program: advice please
Thanks Ben! I remember reading one of your replies in another thread. Yeah, I hope at least one of the three are available when my time comes aroud, but it would be nice to go anywhere really. Quick question, you mentioned that your recruiter dangled I think Hawaii and Germany in front of you before you were given the 4 that were available... are you referring to your rec encouraging you to choose Hawaii?
